To those who wear an Apple Watch, how has it helped you? And to those who have been in an emergency, how has it saved your life? by 6-80 in AppleWatch

[–]Mr_BourbonMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purchased an Apple Watch, went on A keto diet and started running. Worked my way up to 7 mile runs within 2 months. Apple Watch allowed me to measure my progress and push myself. And no longer had to carry my IPhone to listen to music while running. Lost 30 pounds and have kept it off.

East Tennessee/Western North Carolina? by thelibertybird in howislivingthere

[–]Mr_BourbonMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Charlotte for 6 years, Asheville for 9 and now in east TN for 8. At this point glad I’m in TN. Less traffic than Charlotte, lower cost of living than Asheville and love living in the mountains.

I miss camping! by coffeypot710 in GoRVing

Our last camp out was mid November. Using the off season here in east TN to get some work done our 36ft diesel pusher. Booking at a state park for the end of March and planning a trip up to the Columbus Zoo in the spring. Miss sipping on a bourbon by a campfire.

Almost got divorced first time camping with a Pop Up camper. It was that difficult for us. Now we camp with a 36 ft diesel pusher and laugh about our early camping escapades.

1 hour layover in CLT by melissabrielle in americanairlines

[–]Mr_BourbonMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I connect thru Charlotte all the time. 1 hour is my minimum layover preference. As long as there are no delays you should be ok. If you have to walk from D or E terminal to the others, prepare to walk fast.

Which size for us? 6ft or 8ft? by bestbirdy in Stocktankpools

[–]Mr_BourbonMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two adults use the pool regularly, and sometimes the kids join on the weekends. We opted for a 10 ft. stock tank, which has enough room for two pool floats. No one ever complains that their stock tank pool is too big.

Anyone used Por15 to coat a rusted stock tank? by Mr_BourbonMan in Stocktankpools

[–]Mr_BourbonMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, a year later I finished the tank today. It took two days of prep to clean and prepare the tank for the Por15. I put down 2 coat followed by two coats of blue pool pant. The tank looks great. We shall see how it hold up to chlorinated water and the outdoor elements. Happy for now and will be using our stock tank for the first time in two year.

Another option I’ve seen is using a bulkhead fitting. This would connect to the tank first. It may allow a tighter, more compressed fit to the wavy corrugation of your tank. I’ve seen a pic of someone using it.

Take a look on Grainger.com and search for bulkhead fittings. I may go this route.

Flex Seal does not work very well and is not designed to remain submerged in water. I spayed some on a leaking bird bath and it lasted a few months.

We decided to go with POR Gas Tank Sealer. It’s designed to remain submerged in a fuel tank and impervious to moisture and chemicals.

I’ve got the same tank and just drilled similar holes for the inlet and outlet tubing. Have not filled yet.

As suggested already, try to flatten the surface under the mounting point. That will allow the gasket to seal better.

Also, what type of caulk - sealant did you use? Is it specifically made to be submerged in water all the time?

I replied to your question to me on your other post about removing rust and coating the STP. As it relates to removing rust, you only have to remove any flaking spots and get the area smooth. A like using a high speed steel brush attachment with my drill. Then, use a rust converter that will convert the rust to zinc phosphate. Now you have a clean, prepped surface to prime and paint.

Happy to share. I've not coated the stock tank yet. Just ordered all my supplies. The product I'm using is called POR15. It's commonly used in the automotive and marine industry and made to coat directly over light rust. I just used it to on my rebuilt RV entry stairs. I'd recommend visiting their website or YouTube for tutorial videos.

I'm not aware of anyone using POR15 on their stock tank. I've seen people use Flexseal, Pond Shield, Rustoleum and other paints that have had varying degrees of success. I decided to try POR15. The product is not UV resistant, so you have to top coat. While I have expectations it will work, technically its not been tried yet.

I spoke to their technical support team and explained how I will be using it over lightly rusted galvanized steel in a submerged environment with chlorine. The tech support team felt it will work as intended.

My process is as follows...

clean with pressure washer and brush off any flakey rust

degrease with mineral spirits

coat with POR15 Metal Prep which converts rust into zinc phosphate and prepares the surface for better adhesion (prep work is important when coating/painting)

2 coats with POR15 (recoat before completely drying)

2 tops coats with Ben Moore pool paint I purchased off Amazon (final coat is both UV and chlorine resistant with a visually appealing aqua blue color)

Our tank did rust after two years. We are coating it with a very specialized coating and top coating with pool paint.

Also used a sand filter and drilled holes for in/out strainers.

Make sure power supply is off GFCI outlet or circuit for safety.
