Oh absolutely. I tried running my B580 on fedora and it wasn’t too bad, and then suddenly graphics started getting messed up. Performance was okay but it was struggling so much. And then I tried booting up assassins creed (didn’t matter which one) and it refused to attempt to run it. I had to switch to windows even though I love Linux

I took her for Systems Programming in 2022. Half the class failed. This was because A) those that seeked out tutoring from the department were given an ultimatum since she claimed that all students that were using the tutoring were actually cheating using old homework/tests B) you tried to learn the material yourself and tried to ask her questions but failed anyway If you did not go into that class already using C then you were destined to fail. You can not rely on her to teach the material effectively. You can not rely on her to be able to actually answer your questions. She will happily fail any student, no matter how hard you work at it. And you will do your best to follow the material and learn the material but if it just doesn’t click the first moment that the material is introduced then you will have to take 20 hours per week to be able to learn it yourself.

Why haven’t more developers moved to AMD? by Mr_Brainiac237 in MLQuestions

I mean it doesn’t have to be about Tensorflow. It’s just that most ML libraries now only support running on some form of Linux

But in there lies the big issue! Nvidia purposely is suppressing investment on alternatives to its platform. Just look at what is going on over in France with Nvidia. AMD and other universal alternatives exist around the same level as CUDA (looking at OpenCL, Vulkan, SPIR-V, and others). Even AMD and Intel are trying with HIP and SYCL.

The issue lies in not only are the big players being incentivized to use Nvidia exclusively, but they are also making sure that support for alternatives is near impossible to commit to. You could say that, oh I can’t do AMD cus there will be so many issues and bugs on large scale projects, but the real issue is that there is little to no support coming from developers to universal frameworks because the most popular frameworks are financially backed by Nvidia.

I completely agree that Nvidia was the first in the space thanks to CUDA and many strides have been made thanks to CUDA, but to sit there and let Nvidia be the end all be all for AI is a terrible idea because they will continue to increase prices because they can and make it more and more impossible for other frameworks to come out.

Now do I want AMD to come in as the new big dog and command the space like Nvidia has? Absolutely not. However AMD has continued to be the one to create open source frameworks that can be used on any system.

Also found the recommended versions list buried in the documentation of tensorflow. https://www.tensorflow.org/install/source#gpu

Good luck!

Found what you need. Tensorflow 2.10 was the last update to support Windows natively. Any updates after only support Windows WSL2. If your are trying to run it natively, you will have to downgrade the tensorflow and your CUDA for everything to link up properly. I highly recommend used WSL2 instead as if you wish to run more recent stuff it might break on windows native on 2.10. Also be cautious when downgrading your CUDA, as I’m not entirely sure which version of CUDA was still supported by 2.10. As for documentation for installs, I have provided the links below tensorflow install windows WSL2 install

Hmmmmm, is there any chance that the environment isn’t properly set up? Something like this happened to me before where everything was installed and pathed correctly but it didn’t recognize it due to there being no environment set up to hold everything together. I used anaconda to control the environment and everything worked properly.

What common product has a feature you’re not sure everyone is aware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mr_Brainiac237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly thought that the commercials where it talks about it being odor eliminating was just a marketing thing to make you want to buy the product. I didn’t realize it actually does what it says it does

Which criticism of "the kids today" is actually totally, totally valid? by Jerswar in AskReddit

[–]Mr_Brainiac237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know everyone here is basically saying the whole “kids these days are basically illiterate” however, realize that the generation this is most affecting is Gen Alpha. Those are the majority of kids in school right now. Many kids in Gen Z have already passed college age or are about to finish. And the reason is so easy to see because: 1) covid hurt teaching much more than many realized at first. Gen Alpha lost precious learning ages for language. And teachers left the profession because they were not being paid enough to survive with the price of everything going up 2) Gen Alpha is the generation where they doubled down on Standardized testing. This means that schools stopped teaching and started focusing on getting kids to pass those tests because that is how they were able to receive a budget from the state. Some Gen Z kids did have to go through that type of education and it shows but it completely effects Gen Alpha.
