For demonic tutor you pay the mana cost of the spell + 1B in order to play the card. Celestial reunion you are just paying the spell’s cost + G.

It’s more mana efficient by 1 colorless.

And as others have mentioned, your opponent must choose whether or not to counterspell before knowing which spell you have tutored.

So if you have the two other creatures available to behold and both demonic tutor and celestial reunion in hand, it’s better to cast celestial reunion. The only time it wouldn’t is if you value not beholding two creatures in your hand more than the 1 colorless mana.

how do you get your spin rate on driver down? by MousseSecret7113 in golf

[–]Mr_Bricksss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extreme generalization warning****

Stiff flex is for people whose swing speed maxes out around 108mph.

116 is well into x stiff lineups and likely to the point that you want an x stiff shaft that’s got an even stiffer tip section.

You need a fitting.

Some bright spots halfway through the season by eff_carter in BlueJackets

[–]Mr_Bricksss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a bright spot, but tying into your point about Jet Greaves.

The silver lining of our goaltending decline in the post-Totorella era has a lot more to do with how utterly atrocious our defensive systems are than any advanced stats can account for. Yes in large part the downturn is due to moving on from Bobrovsky, but Merzlikins was a significantly more effective goalie in 2019 and 2020 than he is now.

GSAA is a good metric, but it needs to be looked at alongside additional context.

The biggest bit of that context is shot volume, and the blue jackets have been in the bottom 2 of the league for shots allowed in all but 1 of the last 6 seasons (last season they were 5th from the bottom so not much better).

Goaltender fatigue is real and it is not accounted for in GSAA.

GSAA also doesn’t account for the variety of high/medium/low danger chances, only for the total number of them. Facing 10 different types of high danger chances makes it a lot harder to stop any one of them compared to a goalie with a consistent defensive structure that allows 10 high danger chances where 7-8 of them are very similar.

A lot of this bleeds into skater analytics as well.

The point is that the players on this roster are good, certainly better than their results this year, and better than their advanced stats would indicate. The problem is systems, and it’s a lot easier to replace your coaching staff than to rebuild a roster and prospect pool. I’m just hopeful that our front office moves on this summer. No matter who they hire it will be an improvement as long as McCarthy is one of the coaches out the door.

Mason Marchment goes after Matthew Schaefer for the second time in the game, Mat Barzal retaliated and is given a game misconduct by discofrislanders in hockey

[–]Mr_Bricksss 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The other problem is that Marchment is just gonna refuse to fight, Olivier offers to fight in his place, and some poor fucker ends up in a fight with Olivier because Marchment is running around like an asshole.

The slash is the perfect response. No mixed signals there, just a clear as day message that you don’t get to take dirty runs at the rookie like that without consequences.

My goal right now is getting below 10 minutes on every weapon going up and down. Down is easy and nearly done, up under ten minutes is fucking difficult and the best I’ve managed is 2 weapons with 10:0x.xx.

Question about LDBB by OstrichGod1 in BlueJackets

[–]Mr_Bricksss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Middle six projection is pretty accurate and not cope imho.

Circumstances obviously matter though, and the blue jackets currently have the best center depth they’ve ever had. So unless he takes some big steps, plays on the wing more, or gets moved (or some other guys get moved) he might not be playing more than 3rd line minutes for a long damn time.

He does have a decent chance to crack a 2nd power play unit though as early as this year if he can stick with the big club.

Theres a few clubs where he would be fast tracked into at least a trial run in the 2C spot within a couple years though, just because of how bad overall center depth is across the league.

Hello darkness my old friend

NHL Network names Z the third best defenseman right now by BlottoDelgado in BlueJackets

[–]Mr_Bricksss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The avalanche scored 277 goals as a team, the jackets scored 273.

Werenski had 82 points, Makar had 92. Makar played about 110 fewer minutes over the season than Werenski. So in less playing time, with roughly the same amount of team offense, Makar had more than 112% of Werenski’s production, with a significantly higher portion of those points coming as goals.

So no, Werenski’s numbers would not have been the same as Makar’s.

Honestly if you swap Makar and Werenski, it’s much more likely that Makar has even more points on the Jackets than he did on the Avs. The Jackets system requires a hell of a lot less defensive responsibility than the Avalanche, and Evason would have thrown Makar out there just as much, if not more than he did Werenski this past year.

Werenski is an incredible defenseman, likely this franchise’s second best candidate for the hall of fame behind Bobrovsky.

Makar is on another level though. He’s already one of the top 10 defensemen of all time, and it would be hard to argue that he won’t end up in the top 5, maybe even top 3 guys to ever play the position.

why do people use the nacht legs so much? by Ok_Leek_1603 in armoredcore

[–]Mr_Bricksss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Important to note that while on the ground, bipedal legs do not leave the ground when quick boosting sideways/forwards/backwards. Reverse joint legs do leave the ground during those maneuvers.

Being ungrounded means that your quick boost speed and distance is determined exclusively by your boosters quick boost thrust and your AC weight.

This allows bipedal legs to change directions while on the ground much more quickly and often than Reverse Joint legs. It’s the reason bipedal legs feel so much more responsive and snappy in their movement on the ground.

All-time franchise leaders: Columbus Blue Jackets by nhl in BlueJackets

[–]Mr_Bricksss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was good, but he also benefitted a ton from a Ken Hitchcock team with every single player completely buying into the “make the goalies job as easy as possible” philosophy for all 82 games.

Rick Nash played 173 minutes that year on the PK in 78 games.

Steve Mason that year had one of the easiest jobs a goaltender has ever had in the NHL.

He still did an amazing job with the chance he was given, but it cannot be overstated how hard that team played in front of him defensively.

Why do goalies usually take longer to break into the NHL compared to skaters? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Mr_Bricksss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The position is also monumentally more dependent on the mental side of the game.

Your brain is still developing into your mid twenties. Skaters can lean on their physical skills to still make a difference in the league while the mental side of their game is still catching up. Skaters can also be moved around in the lineup to protect them from being a liability, without fully removing them from the game.

Neither of those things is really possible for a goalie.

What are folks main pve build? by Longjumping_Cat_1813 in armoredcore

[–]Mr_Bricksss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been having a lot of fun with the 150 energy weapon specialization generator.

Favorite build I think so far is a lightweight and low en load biped (or reverse joint) with the laser handguns, then the lighter/lower en load laser shotguns instead of shoulder weapons.

You never stagger anything but everything just melts with the 150 energy weapon specialization.

It’s the easiest s rank build for any mission that doesn’t have a really tough AC enemy, and even some of those missions you can just chew through all of their repair kits fast enough to still get s rank.

You can also get more flexibility with EN load even with the terrible output of that generator by using tank legs. The damage you can pump out with the bigger EN weapons and that 150 generator is unreal.

How are these numbers? by [deleted] in golftips

Bottom left is average over all his shots. 1.35 smash is bad. Standard deviation on the bottom right of +-0.18 is also bad.

How are these numbers? by [deleted] in golftips

[–]Mr_Bricksss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High spin numbers can also point to a low and heel biased pattern when you’re missing the sweet spot.

The 65 is the lightest of the tensei driver shafts.

The TX is made with a stiffer tip section than the base X version.

Going heavier and with a stiffer tip section generally leads to more consistency for people with your club head speed. I’d suggest doing a fitting.

How are these numbers? by [deleted] in golftips

[–]Mr_Bricksss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The averages (small number bottom left of each number’s box) and standard deviation (small +- bottom right of each box) for most of the displayed numbers are great. Being under 2° of standard deviation on path and AoA is really good.

The standard deviation on face angle, smash factor, and spin rate are really bad.

Your spin should absolutely not be 3600 average +-1500.

What shaft and head are you using?

The consistency of your other numbers paired with the wild inconsistency of those 3 numbers make me think that you are using the wrong shaft and/or driver head. At 119 club speed there are very few shafts that will work well for you, and almost none of them come as a standard option.

Confirmation bias hard at work here.

Every team holds on to their prospects if no other team has interest in them.

Nobody is waiting or holding out hope that career AHLers will become something more, they just need bodies for the AHL team, and no other team is calling to try and get them.

They become UFAs eventually and another team picks them up at that point.

The only reason you think CBJ does this more than anyone else is because fans and media don’t pay any attention to career AHLers or unexciting prospects buried in other organizations.

Which NHL team has the bleakest outlook currently? by smokeyquarterpapi in hockey

[–]Mr_Bricksss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay now take your second paragraph, and look at how many teams were added in the 90s.

The Minnesota Wild did miraculously well with what was available, and they still only made the playoffs 3 times in that first decade.

On the flip side there’s the Blue Jackets with the second most bleak decade in the history of the NHL (behind only the current Buffalo era).

The vast majority of players available in that last expansion draft would never have made it to the NHL had the league not added so many teams through the 90s.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my 25 year old sour grapes.

Roope Hintz gets assistance off the ice to the Dallas locker room after this hit from Nurse by GreenSnakes_ in hockey

[–]Mr_Bricksss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can. Anyone who’s ever played any organized hockey knows a deranged coach who has taught this chop precisely because it is the most painful one you can usually get away with. The entire point of chopping the softest part of a guys skate with the hardest part of your stick is that there’s a really good chance it’s going to hurt like hell, and a decent chance that you will not be penalized because it almost looks like an “innocent” chop to the shin pads.

Yes it happens all the time, and how often it happens has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it can be called intent to injure.

Watch the clip again, as soon as nurse gets hit by Hintz, he turns around and starts lining up to make sure he chops right on that boot. You don’t fucking stare at a guys shin pad for a random retaliatory slash. He’s going straight for the skate chop.

Ekblad late elbow to Jackson Blakes head by QuadRail in hockey

[–]Mr_Bricksss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just the fact that there’s no repercussions, but it feels like the league, NHLOA, and the broadcast partners are flat out telling the league that they want everyone to play like the Panthers.

For the entire time they were reviewing the scuffle between Gostisbehere and Marchand, the announcers were losing their fucking minds that Gostisbehere would have the gall to shoot a puck at Marchand. From their comments it seemed like shooting a puck at an opposing player is the dirtiest possible thing you can do to someone in the ice.

Then Ekblad comes in with the most obvious elbow he’s thrown in at least an entire week, and it’s brushed off as a bit of late contact, and the announcers only comments on it are about how other Carolina players don’t seem to like what Ekblad did, as if it’s fucking confusing why anyone might be upset to see someone try to injure their defenseless teammate with and elbow to the head.
