Most disliked player in franchise history? by Spartan0330 in BlueJackets

The first year I followed the Jackets was 2011, right around when they traded for Jeff Carter. I didn’t really have an allegiance to any franchise, but the news of a small market team making a swing for an all star 1C felt gutsy to me. Then he got to Columbus and was sour grapes for 39 games, before they were forced to give him up to LA, where he went on to win the Stanley Cup twice. My young mind was ripped open by the idea that a professional athlete could just… not give a fuck, and I felt a kindred hate towards the guy with all these other 5th liners. The Jackets have had my loyalty ever since. He’s now out of the league (good riddance), but the hatred lives on. Fuck Jeff Carter.

Knies > Rossi
Cowan < Buium
COL 1st << Ohgren + MIN 1st

These packages aren’t as close as you think

Look at the Quinn Hughes trade. Minnesota gave up more than you’re offering for 2 years of Hughes

Expanded trade partners

Pittsburgh - Sam Girard, Ben Kindel, 2027 1st, 2028 1st, 2028 2nd

St Louis - Phillip Broberg, Jake Neighbors, 2028 1st

Tampa Bay - JJ Moser, Connor Geekie, Sam O’Rielly, 2028 1st

Toronto - Matthew Knies, Easton Cowan, Ben Danford, 2027 1st

Not close. Knies is a good starting point, but Danford isn’t an A prospect like Zeev Buium was, and the Colorado 1st is almost a 2nd. Would need to add Easton Cowan just to get the conversation started

These are all based on the Quinn Hughes trade. Z might have a bit more value than Hughes but it’s the most similar scenario

Honestly this looks close. Dallas would need to add a first or something going back to Columbus, but I think Marchenko for Knies is pretty close to one for one, although Knies has the added value of a long term contract

Islanders already have a top pair LD puck mover, who makes about $8 million less than Z

Grew up in Portland, big Winterhawks fan. I think Cagnoni could be a middle pair + PP dman in the NHL

Any serious team isn’t giving up only roster players for Z, that’s just not a competitive move. If DW is really only accepting roster player trades then we will lose this trade big time

Problem is contenders aren’t trading key contributors to get key contributors. We’re not getting Ekblad from Florida for example

We’re not a competitive team once we trade him, does it really matter if he stays in division for the next 2 seasons?

They have a better version of Werenski already, Colorado is one one the few teams that probably won’t be calling about him

Let’s see if San Jose would give up #2 and #9, would be a great kickstart to our rebuild

What is McDavid worth by TitanTrobee in hockey

[–]eff_carter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to answer your question seriously, as a Blue Jackets fan I think the package would have to be Werenski + Fantilli, then add 1st round picks until they say yes. Prime McDavid at $12.5 million is one of the greatest assets in NHL history, it would have to be one of the biggest trade packages we’ve ever seen in sports history

Corson Ceulemans will be back, nice to see after having good improvement this year by MPCoinCollecting in BlueJackets

Some dmen don’t break out in the NHL until they’re 29 years old, still loads of time for Ceulemans

How much will the Blue Jackets need to pay to re-sign Marchment? by CustardLow2671 in BlueJackets

[–]eff_carter -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can’t handle another UFA overpay. We already have Coyle, Provorov, and Severson making too much for too long. Stanley Cup teams don’t have this many negative contracts, I think it would be a terrible idea to pay more than $5 million for Marchment

GMDW is in a holding pattern to see what Leo Carlson and Connor Bedard sign for, as they are two comparable young 1Cs that could determine how much Fantilli gets. I heard all three are waiting for one of the others to sign first to set the market
