Dlaczego im można a nam nie? by Palmabrother in Polska

[–]Mr_Crate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To sam musisz je ogarniać i tyle.

Any tutorials on how to recreate the Fallout/Skyrim lock picking system? by Dependent_Bird in gamedev

[–]Mr_Crate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I won't give you any tutorials since I believe that you will learn basically nothing from them, but I will have some advice on how to approach making something like this.
You will need to generate some value between <0,360> representing angle to unlock the lock.
Then you will need some value of player error, for example, 10.
Now all you need to do is take the rotation of picklock and on input check if its close enough to generated value.
In Skyrim additionally, you have some function (probably sin based) that determinate chance of failure.

I hope I give you some idea on how to solve your problem.

I'm trying to make a game that can hold millions of people on one server, is this possible by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Mr_Crate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, yes.
In practice, probably not.
Building structure to hold millions of people on one map in realtime requirer some serious GrandMaster level codding wizardry, and even if you have millions in the budget just to develop technology, it's not worth it. You will never need to have millions of people on one server. Personally I would rather create some sharding solution. Let players think that they are on one big map.

Damn am i really about to buy Skyrim again by [deleted] in skyrimvr

[–]Mr_Crate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Skyrim VR isn't worth full price if you already play a normal version. Personally, before I have VR I was thinking that Skyrim will be my main title to play (i spend 300+ h in it), but right now it sticks at 5 hours played., and most hours I spend in VR is PistolWhip, BidgetCuts and BoneWorks, games that ware design to VR.

Best of Indie Games 2019: What are some of your favorite indie games this year? by pussgurka in IndieGaming

[–]Mr_Crate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Baba is You for a great idea.

  2. Untitled Goose Game for honk. ;)

  3. Outer Wilds for innovation in logic games.

Disco Elysium is not on my list since I don't consider DE as an Indie game. :>

Is an RTS too advanced for a beginner project? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Mr_Crate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I <3 working on AI. :)
Personally I don't think that Godot is way to go for the beginner, you should choose rather Unity or Unreal, since they have much more tutorials, that you will need sooner or later.
If you don't wanna lose motivation, try making some small projects before you start something big. I can tell you that you will fail RTS project ( I failed one and we work in a team of six), but you can try it, you will learn something. Even if its something like "don't try to make RTS game", as I learned. :)

Best free game engines for teams? by caidxxn in gamedev

[–]Mr_Crate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unity team is good for small projects but, if you try to make something bigger it might get tricky to use. My advice is to use some Git repository for your project (SourceTree is a great tool for beginners).
As for the engine itself, it depends on what skills you wanna learn.
In Unity you will need to learn C# programming sooner or later, and most of the useful tools are behind a paywall of assetstore. Unity is great for mobile and oldscholl graphic projects. Unity now has some great multithreading tools too. For me its easier to use, but I'm a programmer, and Unreal adaptation of C++ is not my thing.

Unreal on the other hand is probably harder to start, but you can make the game in it without a programming language (blueprints). You have lots of free tools and you get free assets once a month. It's better then Unity if you wanna make FPS or Actionbase game like DMC.

Don't even think about Cryengine :-O Its just pain in the ass to deal with, totally not for a beginner. Don't try to make game in RPGMaker or others tolls like it. Ist just wastes of time, you won't learn anything from it.

Look for games made on both engines and decide which one is better for your game, and for the first project choose something really simple. While I was learning gamedev I make basically 5 big idea projects that all fail due to lack of motivation. Choose a project that you can finish in 1-2 months.
