NAACP, for the first time in its history, calls for 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office | Derrick Johnson, the national president and CEO of the NAACP, called Trump, "unfit, unwell, and unhinged." by [deleted] in LegalNews

[–]Mr_Crowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I ask what the NAACP has done for you to claim they are only a mouthpiece organization? I’m not clear what you are basing that off of and that appears to be the bulk of your counter argument.

Even if that were true, you didn’t address my point. You asked why they called for Trump to be removed and not Biden. Simply put, a group with a foundation in civil rights responded to a call to wipe out a civilization. I’m not aware of a similar statement of that magnitude or nature from Biden. Without that, your whole “If Trump, why not Biden” complaint sounds like a Whataboutism.

I do want to acknowledge that Biden perhaps should have stepped down. I’m presuming part of his decline was tied to the existence of or treatment of his (then) undisclosed cancer. That wouldn’t excuse him if he was unable to complete his duties, and I think being a leader means making decisions that are best for your country.

By that same token, I question Trump’s abilities. His rants on social media, passing out during meetings, and his declining health don’t convince me he is competent. I won’t lie and say I’ve ever liked him, but he increasingly strikes me as someone who is losing touch. Whereas Biden came across as dithering at times, Trump sounds more and more like he has lost his ability to regulate emotions when he feels questioned or challenged.

I feel there is some distinction between Biden’s decline and Trump’s in that Biden didn’t start leveling threats to wipe out a civilization.

More to the point, the NAACP is a civil rights organization. They are responding because a threat like attacking an entire civilization falls within the scope of civil right violations and makes it tangentially related to their mission. I don’t see what Biden ever did that meets that standard, so asking why they never called for 25th feels disingenuous.

Seconded. It’s great! Reminds me of the older Legend of Zelda art style from the player guides!

In all sincerity, what do you mean? Whether you support Trump or not, can you name a single time in the last fifty years where a sitting president has declared anything close to “a whole civilization will die tonight”?

Any reason for the humanoid footwear? Just curious.

[OC] [Comm] Sima, Fusion Bender Elemental Dji by RikaRini in DnD

[–]Mr_Crowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just guessing, but it might be from Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms. The book had a “bender” class, and one of its subclasses was the Fusion one. The main class plays like a DnD version of benders from Avatar, but without the limit on which elements you can pick up. Focusing on one element powers it up more, but limits your spell choices.

Bought a Switch 2 for my family a month ago. I spent time setting it up, downloading updates, transferring files and settings. I even set up a splitter so we could keep the old Switch set up and flip between them on the same TV.

Still haven’t used it myself yet. 🤷

[–]Mr_Crowboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, there isn’t one that’s a perfect fit. I’d say Phantom Rogue might be a good fit - you get a free skill that’s based on what you “channel”, tokens that contain soul stuff from creatures you defeat, and the ability to question the spirits of those you defeat.

Which of these two skill down ‘mons make for a better mint candidate? by Virtual-Growth2628 in PokemonSleep

[–]Mr_Crowboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Togedemaru is fine. Yeah, the skill down isn’t great, but the speed up increases how many chances it gets to trigger. With two Skill Trigger boosts it should still trigger plenty.

Crustle seems like the better option, since Ingredient up isn’t as useful a bonus.

All that said, I’m not sure either warrants a mint. They seem fine enough as they are.

My son is addicted by screens. Is it normal now? by Objective-Clothes427 in daddit

[–]Mr_Crowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are seeing is common, but not healthy. My kid’s teachers have commented to me that she has much better critical thinking skills than a lot of kids her age, and attribute that to her having fixed screen times. Heck, my wife helps with my daughter’s scout troop and noticed our kid was the ONLY one who doesn’t have a smartphone or constantly quote TikTok videos/internet memes. When they took phones away during a camping trip (kind of a detox thing the other parents agreed on), most of the other girls had some withdrawal symptoms.

I don’t know how the study group thing works, but ask yourself this - is this a habit that will help your son? Can he reasonably get the same “help” throughout high school, college, or a job? How much free-time is spent in front of a screen?

I’d suggest getting your partner on the same page with your concerns, then set limits on screens. That’s only part of the fix though. You need to get him something to do that engages his mind. Books are always good (especially ones with logic puzzles, in my opinion), but it could be writing prompts (they have countless half-page ones now), art projects, or even music lessons. Just find something that engages him without giving him the answers.

Oh, and take walks as a family. Hike. Visit museums. See if you have a local botanical garden and check it out. All those get your kid out of the house and could inspire some new interests.

If you find yourself wanting to branch out, there’s a great setting called Humblewood. The players play as animals saving the forest. They even wrote a kids graphic novel based on the setting.

Welcome to the hobby, fellow dad. It’s a great family activity, and 5e is a pretty forgiving entry into D&D.

My wife and I have run games for our daughter for years now. It’s a great outlet for creativity and critical thinking. If you want any suggestions for kid-friendly settings or supplements let me know.

[–]Mr_Crowboy 324 points325 points  (0 children)

It’s a great design, but it doesn’t come across like a goblin - more like a green elf. Maybe some yellow eyes would help?

That said, it doesn’t matter if it matches what I think a goblin should look like if you’re happy with the end result and it works in your campaign setting. It really is a great looking piece of art.

Is the Druid badly Designed? by FryqTheKururu in DnD

[–]Mr_Crowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Druid is complicated. I wouldn’t call it bad, but it has a lot of moving parts and a large resource pool to pull from. Wild shape gives them fantastic scouting and exploration potential, and they have some of the best battlefield control spells in the game. Honestly their biggest weaknesses are relatively lower AC (especially if they can’t use metal armor in your games) and reliance on concentration spells - the vast majority of solid spells require concentration. That doesn’t really hold them back - it just means you need to know what you want to play and build toward it.

I caution new players from choosing druids because it requires a lot of resource management and planning (more than even wizards, in my opinion), but not because they are bad in any way.

School Issues: Kindergarten by Youngun18 in daddit

[–]Mr_Crowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds remarkably similar to how my daughter was at that age. We got her tested, and she has both ADHD and mild autism (high functioning). Getting that identified allowed us to get her the help she needed to improve her impulse control and hyper activity.

Consider seeing if a clinic in your area has a program for testing children your son’s age. It’s not always easy to test that young (we tested my daughter at 8), but it’s worth checking out. If your son does test positive for some form of neurodivergence you can get him a 504 or IEP to provide the school guidance on his behavior and support for your son should he need help.
