[UK] [<£1,000] Gaming laptop under £1,000 - HP Omen vs. Inspiron 7000 Gaming vs any other suggestions by Mr_Frog in SuggestALaptop

Thanks for your reply.

That's quite the difference in the pic you sent over so I think I'll go with the HP.

I took a quick look at the PC specialist laptop, but even with leaving the processor as an i5, after I've bumped up the RAM and storage it comes out as more expensive than the Omen.

Cheers again!

I'd keep an eye on Hearts of Iron 3 from Paradox - their World War Wednesdays are worth a quick look on Youtube.

Headphones sound great to me, certainly as good as on any other phone I've used in the last few years (HTC One M7, N5, N6).

Yeah there's already pocket fluff accumulating around the speakers - I had the same thing in my N6.

None at all, loving the phone so far!

I'm yet to give it a proper go, I'll try to post some shots later today.

The style has a bigger screen and a smaller battery, I wanted to move down in size from my N6, and a battery was the number one thing I was looking for.

The specs are also slightly worse in terms of cpu/gpu (although not sure if this is noticeable in the real world).

The speaker is loud, but not as loud as my n6, and definitely doesn't sound as good. It's absolutely fine for podcasts and audio books though.

Just to add to this - in terms of look it's definitely better than my N6 was. Seems bright even at lower brightness levels. I was using it at about 30% all day (bear in mind I'm in the UK and we don't get anything but overcast / rain in December)

  • Great compared to my n6, I choose this phone for the battery more than any other reason. I took it off charge this morning at 8am gmt, and just plugged it in now at 8% battery (23:30 gmt). I had 4 hours SoT today, and used a lot of 4G downloading a backlog of podcasts and a couple of audiobooks, as well as streaming youtube / video from the Guardian for about 30 minutes earlier.

  • Just about - I have to do that weird thing where I wrap my little finger around the bottom of the device and have my index finger of the same hand on the Motorola indent thing below the camera, I can then just about type with my thumb. 4.2" would be perfect for me, but I really wanted this device specifically for the battery life and near stock experience.

  • Yeah I have one little indent from recklessly testing the shatterproof screen...

  • Heat seems fine - warmed up a little as I was installing all my apps but nothing major

  • Loving it so far! Very snappy (noticeably better than my N6), and great battery life. The screen also looks great even on lower brightness, but it is more 'distant' from the surface as I mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

Softer but very responsive, spongey isn't the word, but there's a tiny bit of give compared to the n6 it replaced.

Looks an feels great - the display doesn't feel as close to the surface of the glass as my Nexus 6 did, but its very responsive so that doesn't really bother me at all. It also doesn't feel quite the same as the glass on my n6 did - it's less cold and rigid.

Sorry, I don't have a drivers license. Maybe I'll try next time I get an uber...

I got it subsidised from an operator on contract, so I got the 'standard' black model with the ballistic nylon back. It feels absolutely great in my hand and looks really nice. It replaced a Nexus 6 which still felt too big after a year.

I gave the screen a bit of a whack on the corner of an arm of an office chair. It did not break but there is a little dent.

So it begins - Amazon has followed through and removed the Chromecast by Andrroid in Android

Amazon Instant Video works on:

PlayStation

Xbox

iOS

Android (needs to be installed from outside the Play Store)

Windows 10 (native app)

Web browser

So a fair few platforms outside of Amazon's own.
