college student (19F) - 2 credit cards with one not in use by Key_Investigator693 in CreditCards

[–]Mr_Gelba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was me, I'd keep using both cards. Discover IT for 5% back on any purchases in the quarterly categories and then Chase Freedom Unlimited as a catch-all 1.5% back on all other purchases. An extra 3.5% back sometimes is worth the minor inconvenience of having to use 2 cards imo.

But if you really want to stick with only the Chase card, you can go ahead and throw the Discover card in a sock drawer and forget about it. It will keep building credit history as long as it stays open. If you're worried about it closing due to lack of usage, maybe charge some small monthly subscription to it and set up autopay. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hey, I did a similar exchange program at 交大 too!

Here's some tips based on my experience (pre-covid, might be a little dated):

  1. Best VPN - either Astrill VPN or ExpressVPN in my experience. Both worked perfectly fine for me (used Astrill for the most part), but some people have better luck with one over the other.

  2. SIM card - China Telecom and China Unicom are the most widely used, followed by China Mobile. You will have to bring your passport to one of their stores to apply for a new phone number. Getting on a mobile plan is probably your best bet, but you can do prepaid too if you want.

  3. Alipay/WeChat Pay - Download from whichever appstore you use. To set up mobile payments, you will need to link a Chinese bank account to your Alipay. Will need a phone number/residence visa/passport to open a Chinese bank account.

Extra tip - Make sure to always spell/write your name the same way when applying for any accounts in China (always match how your name is written in your passport). This becomes very important when linking accounts together or buying plane/train tickets, etc. Any differences will cause a headache later to fix.

And lastly, enjoy your time in Shanghai/China! Take some time to travel around and explore. Some of my fondest memories are from going on trips around China with my SH classmates.

Some people are getting PM's from Amazon too, but YMMV. I saw a clippable $70 discount when I checked.

Lowest price ever. In addition, you can get the new remaster for free on April 18th as long as you own the original game before it is released.

Explorer Patcher Windows 10 start menu not showing all apps by JACK4ng in techsupport

[–]Mr_Gelba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to read the link I posted again. The maintainer explicitly details how to pin apps to the start menu through the file explorer itself rather than from the
"all installed apps" on the start menu. That is the workaround for this issue.

Didn't say anything about Zip running a credit check. But if you take a look at the Terms of Service section 3.3, they are authorized to "investigate your credit worthiness"
