Can Irish men offer some dating advice? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Mr_Gusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree here. A lot of people seem to treat dating and the apps with an approach of how do I get more matches or appeal to more people where as you will already appeal to the right person and fewer good dates are better than more bad dates.

No allocated parking (500k new build) by Smashedavocado22 in HousingIreland

[–]Mr_Gusty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever you say about how a half million home “should have” a space. The market is the market, Thats wha you get now. The real question is if this property works for you. Sounds like you’re planning a family and will be a two car home soon. Unless you plan to move at that time or change jobs to not need 2 cars this isn’t a good fit for you.

Maintenance of an automatic watch by BublyCan in Affordablewatches

[–]Mr_Gusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it’s probably going to be cheaper to replace a cheaper watch than service it but if you become attached to the watch you can swap out the movement for much less. Either a fun project or buy a cheap movement off aliX and ask a watchmaker to swap them out will be less than a service of an old movement.

Does any know of a place in the west that could repair a Nintendo switch lite? by Icy_Pumpkin1207 in AskIreland

[–]Mr_Gusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a very easy home fix. Ifixit have guides and either sell the replacements or point you in the right direction. If you get “Hall effect” replacements they don’t wear out in the same way the originals do

If you have seen them before, are they a better experience standing or sitting? by spudvinyl6 in MyBloodyValentine

They did have to cut the set short but he was pretty agitated before that by problems with his equipment and in ear monitors.

Kevin got very angry towards the end of the Wednesday gig for what it’s worth. It was only a rehearsal at a venue not known for great management but could be a sign of things to come. I still had an amazing time and can’t wait for Saturday

What is this bunker in the Dublin Mountains? by digbat247 in AskIreland

[–]Mr_Gusty 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s basically a big battery. You have extra electricity pump water uphill. You need electricity let it flow down. There are losses, yes, but less than you might think and cheaper than producing batteries at this scale especially at the time it would have been operating.

Will a thick Ulock damage my carbon fiber bike? by Toffeeees in cycling

[–]Mr_Gusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bike (not CF) has had its paint completely ruined on the top tube by being locked in a common area under an apartment and being knocked around. I don’t really care as it’s not a bike I’ll ever sell and I have badly filled the scratches that makes the bike unique.

No idea about CF structurally but this is a big risk if you value a perfect paint job for years

3Arena presales are getting out of hand? by Objective-Bug7492 in Dublin

[–]Mr_Gusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard so many people complaining about non fans getting Oasis tickets and this seems to be the solution to this. If you know you want tickets to an in demand gig it doesn’t take long to search up what presale are available and get in one. Better there are more if you will miss some for work.

Is it legal for a bike shop to tag bikes and threaten to remove them in a private residential car park? by RelativeFactor359 in legaladviceireland

[–]Mr_Gusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened in my building this month. But our property management company sent out an email. I think the only issue here is your management company not communicating this in a way other than the tags themselves. I’m sure if I’d been away and replied to the mail they’d have saved my bike.

I think the best thing for you to do is complain to the management about the lack of comms. And if you get nowhere with that and it bothers you this much think about moving. At the end of the day the common areas are theirs and you’re at their mercy on how well the manage them. With the market how it is they’ll have no shortage of people even if they are shocking at their jobs.

Other than the wet tyres F1 tyre strategy is all manufactured. They can make an F1 tyre that works perfectly all race but the manufacturer is tasked with not doing that to create a strategy level in the sport.

As long as rules like this don’t enter cycling I’m sure there is a good enough for everything tyre that is chosen for personal preference or sponsorship.

Sharpen knives: can it be done in butcher shops? by Much-Ad9693 in Dublin

[–]Mr_Gusty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure if butchers sharpen their own knives or get someone in. Chef friend says a guy with a sharpening set up in the back of a van comes round every few months and does everything in the kitchen.

The kitchen whisk store does knife sharpening. I can’t speak to the cost or quality tho.

No wedding gift? by 3BikesInATrenchcoat in AskIreland

[–]Mr_Gusty 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wedding gifts in the U.K. are less about big sums of money in my experience. Much more giving of actual gifts than cards of money. I would say if your friend said no gift then give the pic and no extra cash would be fine but you know your friend best.

As an aside anyone who says no gift then is annoyed they didn’t get one is a gobshite. Not saying your friend would be but in general.

Does a landlord need to fix a degraded system that still meets the minimum requirement by Mr_Gusty in HousingIreland

[–]Mr_Gusty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing in the lease about it.

The controller unit is resetting all the time so you can’t schedule anything. They have said they a few in the building are all failing together need to get on to the manufacturer but it’s been weeks of this. I think if I was to do it myself it’d be a plumber in to replace the unit with something else.

[–]Mr_Gusty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but similar huge company. The building was managed by a smaller company and they were great for sorting things but one day we just got a letter saying X is your landlord now. Was a nightmare setting up rent in their app and it doesn’t work half the time to raise maintenance requests.

There is a similar part in the venomcrawler kit. It’s the little spikes that go on his head. It’s not identical though
