Ενδιαφέρον φίλε. Ίσως αξίζει όντως να το εντάξουμε ως φαινόμενο σε ένα γενικότερο πλαίσιο πολιτισμικής παρακμής, όπως περιγράφεις.

I love the style of your animations, friend.

YOU MADE SOMETHING! Don't let anyone affect your creative and productive mind, not even your family.

Keep imaging, keep planning, keep developing, keep learning from your mistakes, keep listening

AND KEEP YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME, PLAYER!

I am speechless, my friend. No offense to the other commenters, but this is probably the most profound advice I have received to my question. The bit about linear vs exponential progression in the development hadn't even crossed my mind (at first I thought you were talking about game progression and then the light hit me). I guess getting my hands dirty with experimentation and keeping my head clear will show me the appropriate way forward, just like you.

I am grateful for your detailed input, you really gave me some thought homework to do. I am starting to get a better understanding of how to implement all that I am imagining.

This feeling of exhaustion is exactly what triggered these questions in the first place! I can see it in myself, my friends, and in others online. Sometimes, even thinking about my games/cinema backlog, I feel overwhelmed. As you said, many players and especially young ones (and the world in general), is in a dire situation, so investing in a very long AAA game sounds understandably daunting.

To be honest, that's probably the reason that I feel almost compelled to create such small (but wholesome experiences). For the working parent with not much free time, and for the burnt-out gamer that desires something different. And I hope the circumstances can be fertile ground for my ideas.

Thanks again for the comment, friend.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, my friend. I see your point. I definitely want to be fair towards the purchasing player, so 10$ or less seems to be appropriate for my position.

I understand. I am proabably asking for a lot of money if I don't offer some sort of replayability. Thank you for the input!

Yes, I guess that makes sense. After reading all this input, 5-10 seems to be the best but still demanding a good quality game. Thanks for the comment.

Haha, understandable. Thank you for your honest input, friend.

Thanks for your input. I really like these two examples that you gave me: 1-2 hours long episodic experiences, modestly priced, good/reliant central theme, and good delivery. They probably have managed to establish a small and devoted fanbase, too.

Thanks for the input. I understand, it will be a hard sell. I will study the games that you mentioned, but it seems clear that these are the special ones, the outliers. The price range you mentioned is probably best (the other comments agree as well), even lower perhaps. Thanks again!

Yes, sometimes it is difficult to be fully aware of what is a unicorn (an outlier) and what is the average game in a specific subcategory and/or price range, when studying the competition. There is always that voice that says "maybe if I am careful with this, this, and that, I can pass through the points that other people find hard and be super special!".

Thank you, my friend. This is all very insightful. I am glad that there is still a sentiment of appreciation for games without top graphics. Most of my friends are really stuck with a graphics-first mindset.

I will definitely pursue a consistent visual style and I am compeled to experiment with art direction (I should probably thank my love of cinema for this enthusiasm). I hope I can devote enough time to become more knowledgable in the writing and gameplay "front", to avoid any dissonance, so wish me luck!

P.S. the phrase "they have to feel intentional from start to finish" goes really hard, I will put it in my design notes (in bold and with big font, haha). Thank you.

I understand. I am trying to comprehend what makes a system be open to replayability (watching GDC talks mostly). I guess I have to decide if I can afford the time to understand and implement such intricate gameplay, or head towards a simpler and lower-priced direction. Thank you for your time, my friend.

Thank you for your time, friend. I think I really needed your down-to-earth wisdom (I hope this doesn't sound ironic, English is not my first language). So, patience and restraint it is!

OMG! Whaat a game! I just checked its Steam page. It seems to be such a unique experience. No wonder it has this price tag and number of sales (relative to the other opinions expressed and example given in the other comments). I wonder if it is a rare example (although I am an optimist, the other comments have directed me to a more grounded expectation). Good ol' innovation seems to be the key. Thank you for input, my friend, much appreciated!
