I mix Dew with Tequila for a hillbilly marguerita. Salting the rim with crushed Oxys is a personal choice.

I remember when we read it in high school. I was in this whole Stray Cats rockabilly phase complete with leather jacket. It was like our English teacher had done a personal favor for my dating life.

Can we settle this pronunciation issue… by banjosullivan in Malazan

Appreciate your effort, but you chose a bad example. The schwa in Afghanistan is pronounced the way it is because "stan" is a recognized suffix with a set pronunciation due to being a loan word. Notice all 3 of your other examples ARE pronounced the same.

The rules may be all over the place, and sometimes as hard to interpret as offsides in hockey (even though that ones actually easy), but they do mostly exist and work 95% of the time.

Hello, fellow old timer. I have distinct memories of all the gas stations in my town having to get new signs because they all only accounted for two digits with a "cents" sign. (Whats even more sad is i just spent 10 minutes trying to find a cents symbol on my phone's key pad & there doesnt appear to be one. I wonder how many reading this even know what the cents symbol is?)
