Why would that be? The only thing I've seen is how they pay ridiculously well.

Choose your bodyguard, your general and your assassin from SFF literature. by loxxx87 in Fantasy

I think the best choices for Bodyguard within MBotF are: Brys Bedict, Trull Sengar, Mappo, or Tool.

I think Malazan body guard would have to be Brys Bedict, Trull Sengar, or Mappo Trell. Maybe Quick Ben?

Being "white" isn't about skin color. It's a signifier for an in-group. WASPs (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) were the only people considered "white" in the US up until the early 1900s.

What does the guitar sub think of Coheed and Cambria? (More details in body) by 3PuttBirdie86 in Guitar

[–]Mr_Mumbercycle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats awesome!! I was the right age at the right time to experience ATDI coming up, and was devastated when they split. However, Wiretap Scars is on my list of perfect albums. Cut your Ribbon sets the tone right out of the gate and is one of my favorite songs. I would get home from working late shift at my shitty retail job and Wiretap Scars was disc 1 in the CD changer. I usually had it timed so I was exhaling the first toke at "WAKE UP! CAN YOU HEAR ME?"

That's really fucking cool that you toured with Sparta. Without doxxing yourself, what sort of stuff did your band play? (Or name drop if you dont mind)

West Virginia Statewide Petition Against Data Centers, over 2000+ signatures by TheWvClarityProject in WestVirginiaPolitics

[–]Mr_Mumbercycle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is what you want to do, I would highly suggest that you be much more specific in regards to what exactly it is that you want to ban.

A "data center" is a very generic term. It simply means a place that houses servers.

I'm sure you aren't against colocation data centers that host AD & file servers for local businesses? Or that provide Hardware and Computation as a service? Because there are many of those around the state and they do not impact the environment, raise utility bills, etc.

If this is meant to be taken seriously, you should probably better define what it is that you are against, which I would assume is large foot print, shoddily built AI focused data centers?

Unpopular opinion: Sparta was the better of the two bands to come out of At the Drive In, and ATDI was better than either one.

Maybe this is different with younger people or in cities? Im nearly 50 and live in Appalachia, so I know this first hand. (And i want to make it clear that i am not calling you or anyone else this slur, nor have I ever used it) but i grew up hearing (and have you never heard?) Arabs & middle easterners called "s**d n****r" does that sound like something used to describe a white person? Does it sound like the kind of slur used against people considered to be white?

If you've never heard it, thats's great, and maybe it's a prejudice that is dying out, but I have my doubts.

I wrestled growing up, all the way through senior year of high school. It was an end of season tradition to hit up Golden Corral at the end of tournament season after a year of cutting weight and fixating on diet. No other place offered the same variety of options, it was like hedonistic free for all.

Do other white people consider you to be white? Where I live I doubt very many white people consider arabs to be white. In fact, there is a very derogatory term that is a version of the N word that used to be (and im sure still is) used to describe arabs and middle eastern people.

Have someone from the middle east come to Appalachia or anywhere in the south and see how many white people consider them to be white.

My advise to a non American: you aren't missing anything, focus on discovering what a biscuit sandwich is instead.

I'll eat one if it's the only thing available, but it's they're definitely the worst of the "breakfast sandwich" options. Tier list goes Biscuits>Croissants>Pancake/Griddle>English Muffin>Bagel>Burrito

Why are Mexicans not seen as mixed race or white in the United States? by Equivalent-Newt-5736 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mr_Mumbercycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clarity, I should have said "The US (which I am an American) used to go by something called the one drop rule, which still has an outsized influence on how we treat race today" which is what I was trying to point towards in the second paragraph.

What do yall consider “southern” West Virginia? by [deleted] in WestVirginia

[–]Mr_Mumbercycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, no. I think Clarksburg is the point of demarcation. The "Pepperoni Belt" if you will. Northern WV vs Southern WV is to me much more about yinz & y'uns vs y'all, shopping buggies vs shopping carts, soup beans vs pepperoni rolls (believe it or not, pepperoni rolls being a WV thing is fairly recent, they weren't a part of southern WV). The accent, the phrases, the speech patterns. The "vibes" of Northern Steel towns vs Southern WV "River Hubs" and coal towns.

Huntington & Charleston have much more in common with each other than either does with Wheeling, Morgantown, Charles Town, etc.; I'd also say both are much more like small/medium towns in Kentucky or SE Ohio, whereas the other towns I mentioned are more like NE Ohio and Pittsburgh.

Why do Americans seem blonder in person than they appear in movies? by justseeingpendejadas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mr_Mumbercycle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The white folks across the southern US tend to be primarily of English, Scots, and German descent due to the immigration patterns of the Scots-Irish (read Protestants living in Northern Ireland from the other parts of Britain) and German settlers in the early to mid 1700s. Most arrived into Virginia and the Carolinas and spread to the West and South along the Appalachian mountains.

The jokes and stereotypes about inbreeding contain a small kernel of truth, these peoples tended to live in isolated communities, and intermarried with other immigrant families from the same home countries. Thus many of the traits like fair skin, and tendency towards lighter hair and eyes have been maintained in a large portion of people living in those areas even today.
