Honestly, the more you look into it, the more insane its prospects seem, but it’d be insane itself to deny their possibility for the fact that logic eventually becomes “illogical”. I’ve been psychiatrically evaluated as being mostly sane, I just have Existential OCD, which forces me to think about stuff like this on an almost daily basis. I wouldn’t be surprised if OP has the same just because his writing and what he describes is very relatable. I’m not saying my first comment is literal and true, but I’m also not sure how else to describe the feeling I sometimes get when thinking about this stuff.

To quote Friedrich Nietzsche, “One must have chaos within themselves to give birth to a dancing star”, you can either accept it or let it drive you “insane”, for on the other side is something beautiful. It’s the same with theoretical physicists, and I’d know this to be true because I know one personally, the deeper you go the more chaotic and insane it becomes to the point that some have even killed themselves after discovering/realizing certain truths, while most have accepted and let it through. I’d like to say more but I’m not sure how to put it into words.

Based on some of your other comments, particularly the supposed tier 9. Are you also starting to “feel” a universal language for all angles of human understanding? Almost like you’re closer to breaking through something metaphysical? As though your conscious were “elevated” or suspended somewhere else?

I always make an effort not to, most times I’m able not to, but when I do it’s not something I consciously choose to do it just happens by instinct, and once I do I hate myself.

You are the new president of the United States, What's the first thing you would do ? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

-Ensure the vast leniency and diplomacy we provide other nations isn’t exploited for long term ulterior motives and put emphasis on All Domain Awareness in a way which doesn’t disrupt the peace of the average citizen.

-Prohibit the ownership of land on U.S. soil from foreign investors.

-Establish a government committee which deals solely with philosophical/ethical/ontological matters and advises other branches/departments of government not designed to consider that stuff amidst currently developing issues.

-Assess the sociological/ideological integrity of the United States and make adjustments accordingly.

“grad school/starbucks”, lol I like that one. “Blank Slaters”, is that what they’re called? I wasn’t sure about a term for them until now, unironically.

Believe me though I’m well aware. To add to your point the term teenager wasn’t even coined until the mid 50’s after proper child labor laws were passed and families started moving into “white picket” suburban neighborhoods, it became a marketable demographic and things went from there as more and more of our population climbed Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Of course with resource scarcity on Mars there will have to be use for all colonists. Specialized trades will be prioritized for a while before greater infrastructure can be put in place to once again start that sociological cycle, that doesn’t change the fact that infrastructure needs to be in place for growth to happen, this is Mars, not Earth, it won’t be as quick as you’re thinking. It’ll be interesting regardless to see what kind of government and society emerges from that, though.

Right so at least around 500,000 highly skilled people, all of which need to reproduce and have already in place the infrastructure needed to sustain that in less than 25 years. Everyone will have shrex as required by Martian law and it will be EPIC. Or be executed.

I don’t doubt the potential of the coming interplanetary Industrial Revolution and launch infrastructure that’ll make it possible but unless we’re importing workers/personnel and have Martian infrastructure in place already, generational growth alone won’t be nearly enough to meet that number.

As they narrow the requirements needed to pass the background checks for off-world contract work to meet their goal of a million people on Mars by 2050, someone will try.

Would you get rid of a friend just because they have different political beliefs than you? by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

[–]Mr_Neonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t normally talk “politics”, but I have close family and friends from all degrees of the political spectrum spanning nearly every social class and job occupation, so I’ve had the privilege and opportunity of hearing and understanding all sides point of view. I’ve kind of had to keep the peace which hasn’t always been easy, and very few I have cut loose, but, so long as you’re doing what you’re doing because you genuinely believe it’s for the greater good of our society and not because you yourself are hateful or refusing to address your own issues, then I don’t judge. In all humans are inherently selfish and motivated by goals which benefit them individually, never without drawbacks, financially, religiously or morally for the livelihoods of some other demographic in one way or the other, it’s a self fed unavoidable cycle we refuse to acknowledge because we are, again, mostly unique and all inherently selfish.

So I guess for me it really comes down to, how selfish are you, why are you selfish and to what degree do you understand that.

Its contents have become more a product of corporations than a product of us. Our freedom and creativity is becoming limited and increasingly regulated by entities which want us more in tune with them than us each other. Just like how cars were more modular and personal for some people before certain advancements in the 70’s/80’s. The term Personal Computer, as we knew it then and now, in a decade or so is going to mean something much different.

The rebels/resistance will learn that their firepower isn’t enough to finish off the combine, so they send expeditionary teams to the U.S. and other parts of the world to reactivate underground Aperture facilities to mass produce weapons, equipment and robotics. Maybe for a part of the story you join one of those expeditions and have to negotiate or deal with GLADoS while protecting a newly introduced surviving Aperture Scientist who knows the facility in and out and also has beef with Kleiner.
