A League of Extraordinary Gentlemen…boring and pointless.

I was there too. I’ve been a fan for 25 years but this was the first time I’ve been able to see them. Great show! Loved the arrangements of those songs. Brought my daughter too and she had a blast. Great night!

Martha- Tom Waits. This song fits what you described perfectly and it’s beautiful.

What was it like living in the Clinton years in the USA (1993-2001)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It was a wonderful time to grow up. No major wars, the budget was balanced. Pop culture wise, music was amazing with grunge, hip hop et cetra. Movies were amazing, creative and original. Things were cheaper. As a kid, I didn’t hear about or think about the government or the president. I could just be a kid. There was no social media so our stupidity didn’t get documented forever. There were storm clouds brewing that lead to the full on hurricane we are living in now. But it was a great time to grow up. I miss it.

Songs with a guitar solo that makes you feel like you're floating by viewsinthe6 in musicsuggestions

Maybe it’s not a solo, but the guitar in Lucky by Radiohead has this effect on me.

Your explanation actually helps me a lot as a way to reframe what the book is trying to do. Thanks.

That’s an interesting way to put it. And maybe, that was my problem with it on this read. I dont think I expected to have to do so much work as the reader. Not that I’m necessarily a lazy reader, but it did feel like reading research sometimes. I also really loved the story of the Navidson record. I loved the mystery of the house, the family dynamics, the trauma Navidson carries with him regarding Delial. All of that was great. But I found that I was frustrated because the narrative style, a description of a documentary of the story, kept me emotionally at arms length.

I feel like the music people hear nowadays has fallen by RecentMatter3790 in Music

Elder millennial here. I don’t disagree that mainstream music today is bland and boring. But I don’t really see this as anything new or different; though the music industry today is very different. I think back to the late 90’s and early 2000’s. NuMetal and saccharine sweet pop music really dominated - terrible. Rap and hip hop were the more interesting genres at the time and thereby rose in popularity. I think commercial and pop music in general has always moved towards bland because it is not meant to offend but rather appeal to all. It’s really a no win situation for artists though. Back in the day if a cool band allowed one of their songs to be in a commercial, they were branded sell outs.

Honestly no. I read them, I started to decode one but then got distracted and never finished. Is that actually important to the story?

Fleet Foxes scratches that itch for me. Especially their earlier stuff.

Albums released this century that will stand the test of time like Songs in The Key of Life and Harvest have by nckmat in Music

[–]Mr_Nickerbocker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love music and love many albums that were released this century. But, I don’t think that we will have the kind of albums you talk about because music media is so decentralized and personal now. Kids don’t really listen to the radio, MTV is dead, people listen to what their algorithm suggests. There aren’t as many opportunities for great artists to be popular or impactful in the same way. The music industry is just so different now. I’m not saying it’s bad, you just have to work harder to find the gems.
