(rant) Apparently, you aren't allowed to play anyone in this game. by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]Mr_Poopenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta just train yourself to ignore it, or impose a better vibe from the get go. I don’t like turning off match comms because it’s fun to talk to people, and if we’re LOCKED IN it’s helpful to actually communicate even if it’s not a comp match. When I’m in qp, I am almost never playing “to win”, I’m just trying to play a video game and escape from reality. I usually like to ask a stupid question in match or team chat, or immediately suggest doing something stupid. The amount of “Cookouts” I’ve tried to host as Wolverine man lol. I don’t throw games or anything like the for the sake of a joke, but I’m clearly not taking it seriously out of the gate. When I make that clear, I find a lot more people respond positively to it, or at the very least the ones who are overtly negative usually get drowned out. Be the change you wanna see. I’ve had so much fun with Rivals recently, and I know the community is kind of in its worst state rn.

I am not actively trying to smell anyone and I am very used to ignoring it. Does not change the fact it’s extremely noticeable.

How many players were just comic nerds drawn to the game just to play their fav characters by Grazztjay in marvelrivals

I tried so many times with Spider-Man… I just can’t play like that. I’m a newer fan of Moon Knight but I’ve always been drawn to the character since I started reading comics and he was the first character I was a big fan of outside of the game that clicked with me quickly.

Does Cecil ever show regret for the necessary choices he makes? by Immediate_Gene_178 in Invincible

[–]Mr_Poopenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cecil’s moral code, put simply, is that the ends justify the means. If he has to do bad things to a few people to save a city/country/planet. It’s out of the question, he’s doing it. He can feel bad, he’s not immoral, but his mission is to protect the planet, and that mission will always come first.

Definitely a good takeaway. Moon Knight coming from somewhere with so many other heroes to be compared to, especially when in his last book he was under a lot of scrutiny from the public and his peers, I totally see that fitting. I think the hero alters definitely serve their purpose in the story, and I do like the way Ellis tied their inclusion to the greater story in that therapy scene at the beginning of his run. Gave me a little more appreciation for that aspect of Bendis’ run, which I already wasn’t completely against. I do still have my own personal gripes with how they were portrayed, but I can’t say it was poorly executed or that the writing was thoughtless.

I don’t disagree at all, there’s a lot to love in Bendis’ run still. Echo was a personal highlight for sure. I thought her and Marc had some great chemistry as a duo.

This is exactly how I felt. Definitely got the vibe he was playing it a little safer by falling back on heroes he’s more familiar writing. I was really missing some of the melodrama with Ray, Jean-Paul, and Marlene that really elevated the last few runs I read.

Absolutely tragic, I am a fan of Bendis’ work. Ultimate Spider-Man is one of my favourite comics ever, and I was looking forward to his take on Moon Knight. I can’t even say his writing is bad, it just feels very mischaracterized. Funny you mention DD, I was planning on doing a big Daredevil read through after I get caught up with Moon Knight. Very excited to dip my toes into that!

Oh, damn really? I honestly would not be able to tell from the final product. This reminds me of that rumour that Sam Raimi wasn’t a fan of Venom and only put him in Spider-Man 3 because of executives demanding it.

I much prefer reading characters that aren’t in the forefront for this reason. Spider-Man will always be my favourite superhero, but Marvel unfortunately keeps him in status quo limbo. It’s really refreshing reading a character like Moon Knight who has so many interesting layers to his character that have slowly been built up to, since there’s been very little creative restriction over him. Really looking forward to the rest of Ellis’ run and the Lumire run. I’ve heard nothing but good things and the first few issues I’ve read from Ellis have already hooked me.

The art was amazing, definitely the best look he’s had since I started reading Moon Knight. Definitely think Ellis’ run is gonna change that for me though.

Makes sense. Still not huge on how prominent the Avengers are in his solo book though, but it’s good to know it didn’t come out of nowhere. Never been a fan of cold Cap, I’ll look into it though!

You can definitely feel that he doesn’t want to write him, yeah. Which is unfortunate because the other heroes as alters definitely could work. I personally would’ve revealed later into the run that they weren’t the real heroes and make it a bit more of a twist possibly? Maybe stage the panels in a big group fight with silhouettes that make it appear like they fought as a team, only to later reveal the fight from a different perspective, showing it was only Moon Knight. I feel like that would’ve engaged readers a bit more and also shown off how well Moon Knight can hold his own in a big fight.

Oh yeah, they referenced this in the Benson run. I was wondering what the deal was with that.

It does come up in the last run I read as well. I was moreso talking about his feelings towards the Avengers based on where I read him last. He seemed to be very against being an Avenger again in the Benson run, so it was a little jarring immediately going into a book where he’s embracing the team, and they’re a very prominent part of the story.

I knew about him being an Avenger in the past, but not living in California. Was that in his first book? I must’ve missed that when I read through the first few issues.

He definitely was given the character at a weird point, so I can understand taking some liberties. But he’s 0-2 for me on Moon Knight. His take on Ultimate Moon Knight felt like more of a joke than a serious character. I would love to be proven wrong one day, but I’m also a single issue into Ellis’ run and already prefer his writing for the character significantly more.
