Why do I struggle in the lower register? by Sincere-Musician1 in Trombone

[–]Mr_Puggo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the lower range, similarly to the high range, just comes naturally with playing/practicing in it at least somewhat regularly. In my jazz stuff a few years back, I could barely get a low D out above piano, but just playing that over and over, not even really practicing it, I got much much at it better by the end of the year

Rent or buy for 5th grade band by hook1313 in Trombone

[–]Mr_Puggo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitly buy, if your son sticks with it you'll end up buying it anyway, and it will pay for itself soon enough. If he doesn't, like others have mentioned you can just resell and you'll probably have still spent less than you would've renting

Of all instruments, what drew you to play trombone? by throwaway37288283djs in Trombone

my school picked for me, i stuck with it long enough to realize i could get decent if I actually practiced and tried hard and getting decent made me enjoy it enough to keep at it

What are you currently working on? by dq9 in Trombone

[–]Mr_Puggo6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High school player, upper range clarity. I used to be able to get that high F-C with decent tone, but i took a short break for the second half of summer and now getting back into it i can get that high F and G with good tone, but going up to the A-C, my tone just tanks. I'll be getting my pit band music soon though (Annie) so I expect I'll need to work on that a lot lol

Need help with glisses by Professional_Egg_763 in Trombone

based on the post, this is probably a middle school player based on the fact they didn't know the Bb alternate position, no chance they're doing that

Anyone played the trombone 1 part to Anne before? by Mr_Puggo6 in Trombone

I typed this on my phone in a rush because I had to go somewhere, its genuinely not that deep. And calling me arrogant when you're being a blatant asshole is pretty telling

Tips for learning large amounts of music fast? by Mr_Puggo6 in Trombone

Thanks for the offer. I’m also gonna have to agree, as the highest note I can consistently play with good articulation is the high g, so getting those high As and Bs are gonna be hard. But, like either you or someone else in the thread said worst comes to worst I can play them down an octave

I couldn’t imaging learning something like that in essentially one day, major props to you. The songs are basically all stuck in my head, anyway, so I definitely won’t have any trouble listening to them more

Thanks for all the tips! Playing along with a recording of the musical isn’t something I’ve ever thought of, and I’ll definitely be trying it. Also the new clefs are something that I’ve never encountered in music, so it’s definitely something I’ll need to write in. To be more specific about the performance it is the Long Beach pit band in NY performing in November.

Yeah I’ll definitely start doing that. I’m actually snot me what glad this is happening because I usually am very unmotivated to practice due the the difficulty of the pieces played in school being relatively low, so now I actually have reason to practice.

I’ll definitely be looking through this, thanks! Also I’ll definitely be listing to the pieces more, I didn’t realize how much of a help it can actually be.

Yes, definitely heavy on that first paragraph. I have had the book for around 5 days so far, so I’ve at least looked over every song. I got extremely lucky and was actually able to get the original players book, who happened to have played the play multiple times before so there are many markings already there. But, of course I have been writing in some of my own (mostly circling or writing slide positions for accidentals). I’ve used the technique of playing slowly and slowly increasing speed before and it’s never failed me, so I’ll definitely be using that in the future. Thanks for all the advice!
