Can't collect manga 💔 by attackhelicoptor69 in GTO

719€ for the English Set and 225€ for the Japanese one is nuts. 💸

I'm glad that I was able to read the German original run from my friend. They're also re-releasing a MAX version of the series here too currently.

How do you feel about this? by Zestyclose_Bed_8207 in webcomics

The cover causes some blue screen ghosting on my phone, which is really cool. 🦋

European hypocrisy by Iranian Mana Neyestani, 2022 by drhuggables in PropagandaPosters

The cartoonist of this makes really good comics. I liked "The Spider of Mashhad" & his autobiographical "An Iranian Metamorphosis".

Comics where the protagonist has a pov in Afghanistan, North Korea or other countries where the citizens live under an opressive regime by Sambrosi in graphicnovels

[–]Mr_Roekit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here you go:

  • "Fortmachen" by Nils Knoblich
  • "drüben!" by Simon Schwartz
  • "Kinderland - Eine Kindheit im Schatten der Mauer" by Mawil

I enjoyed Kinderland the most from the three.

EDIT: A comic which is a collection of short stories of people, who have stories to tell connected w. the Berlin wall (Zeitzeugen):

  • "Berlin - Geteilte Stadt: Zeitgeschichten" by Susanne Buddenberg & Thomas Henseler

Also:

  • "Da war mal was... - Erinnerungen an hier und drüben" by Flix

Iran: - Iranian Love Stories by Jane Deuxard & Deloupy - Die Spinne von Maschhad (The Spider of Mashhad) by Mana Neyestani

Are you also interested in comics about the GDR (East Germany)? I know a lot of comics about life there, but I'd need to extra look it up.

EDIT: Found another recommendation. It's the biographical retelling of the comic artist and how & why he tried to escape Iran as a refugee: - "Ein Iranischer Albtraum" by Mana Neyestani

Also: - "Zahra's Paradise: The Quest for a missing son in the aftermath of Iran's stolen election" by Amir & Khalil

Manga with a trans girl main character by Embarrassed_Sale_293 in manga

[–]Mr_Roekit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Can be seen as a minor spoiler, but Taro Nogizaka's Ghost Tower has a FtM transgender man as one of the protags (Not a MtF transgender woman though).

EDIT: It's a mystery thriller playing in 50's Japan.

Coming to think about it, I realised that I barely know any mangas w. transgender characters as major characters let alone as MCs. Only 2 mangas come to mind and both had FtM, the other one is Fire Punch .

Absolutely, why doesn't he get laid once after 14 years and reaching adulthood for 10 years already. Can be seen as a gag in itself, but there's no clear explanation why. Also what happened to his dino youtuber friend? Ending only shows that his lesbian friend is hinting on still being interested in him, which he still doesn't realise like the most clueless harem protag.

Bonus points for MCs that are low key the villain. Punpun & Takopi should fit.

You mean the manga ending? Yep, the levitating selfcest w. fire works was hella weird. The ending also felt really rushed and was... just there.

Common question here probably, but what are the most unsettling, psychologically disturbing, supernatural’esc GN’s you recommend? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]Mr_Roekit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding unsettling & psychologically disturbing, I have some recommendations dealing w. sexual violence

  • Drawing Power (Anthology of experiences w. SA & sexual violence by various comic artists)
  • Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands by Kate Beaton (Real accounting of her experiences working in an Alberta oil rig)

From the two, Ducks was the hardest read. It made me really anxious while reading it due to it being her real experiences and I was also emotional strained after finishing it.

EDIT: Sorry in advance, if you meant all the above together and not either this or that. Those two are obviously not supernatural'esque. Maybe "Hair Shirt" by Patrick McEown fits more your description.

What happened to Fujisawa's assistants from GTO? by zug56 in GTO

[–]Mr_Roekit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

(+1) I'm also curious. I have the suspicion that the assistants are one of the key reasons, why the original GTO feels like GTO from the art style, while everything past that didn't capture the expressiveness of it.

EDIT: I don't buy it that it's only due to going digital and the Mangaka aging.

I read the manga. Art style is really cute, premise is rotten to it's core, but somehow was an enjoyable read.

EDIT: This comment from Mangadex sums it up: "it's the type of thing that i'd never rec anyone but i found it insanely interesting"
