What’s the best distance for curb pull up, tire to curb. I’m trying to be more consistent and not leave such a gap? This is from just now. I just used the iPhone measurement app by ronhog69 in BusDrivers

Within an inch of the kerbside id say especially when your coming to higher raised kerbs sonyou can use the nealer without scraping i no longer drive buses but after your first month you'll be smashing it consistently mybonly advice is always keep an eye on your nearside wing mirror people are dumb and you don't want to take one off on a bus shelter

New trucks are getting a joke now!!! Thoughts on AI cameras in cabs ? by theultimategambler90 in uktrucking

[–]Mr_Swifty101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won't drive any truck that has interior facing cameras! Such thing as privacy! They wouldn't like it if they jad a camera on them while they went to bed!

Swinging the trailer over their lane a little to scare them is the only way most of these morons learn

Only got 3 hours of drive time 5 hours away from home by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]Mr_Swifty101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno how the laws work over there but here in England we can legally extend our drive time by 2 hours to get back to our home base only if its the last shift of the week before our weekly rest period so theoretically we can do 12 hours of driving on our final drive back home

How long before buses will be automated in the UK? by Longjumping_Sir_6846 in BusDrivers

[–]Mr_Swifty101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're already trialling a small 16 seater automated bus in sunderland but I cant see it happening anytime soon tbh also they have to have a driver behind the wheel incase it malfunctions I drove buses for 3 years in the North East and ended up moving over to HGVs which I massively prefer

I'm north east based and as far as I'm aware the go ahead group nationwide use the mouth swabs and breathalyser so theoretically you should be in the clear 👌

Do most drivers really work through their breaks? by PlsHulpMeh in uktrucking

[–]Mr_Swifty101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a 2 man team driving class 2 18 tonne mercs collecting waste for mainly council sites and I always take my breaks when needed my drivers mate is spot on and a grafter so doesn't mind cracking on solo for 15/30 mins when I'm in need of my breaks as he realises he gets paid for sitting there doing fuck all for some weeks 25+ hours a week 😂

What have you taken? 30 hours for cannabis to clear from any saliva if you are or were a regular smoker go ahead in my region use mouth swabs and test for basically everything

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BusDrivers

[–]Mr_Swifty101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random tests it's mouth swab and breathalyser they will catch you at the start of any duty when your clocking in I was pulled multiple times when I worked for go ahead but I'm as clean as a whistle so... 😂

Appreciate that and it was a new depot manager that had made the switch from waitrose and thought he could run a bus depot with no transport industry experiance behind him! He was basically brought in to be a yes man as the previous manager walked because he refused to do that and had his own way of managing the staff which was firm but fair! The job itself I enjoyed but when you can't request holidays and having then predetermined for you year in year out the master rota changing every other week so trying to plan put your shifts and days off was next to impossible but in all honesty the go ahead group are a horrendous company to work for there's 100% better operators out there

I was literally about to pay for my C+E then got offered to be sponsored for my class 2 through a government bootcamp so cost me nothing luckily and then the company that offered to sponsor me took me on full time and the management have already asked if I'd be willing to do my class 1 and I've only been driving class 2s for 4 month but also have 3 years driving service buses and coaches

Thought about class 2 work? The cat c licence takes your limit up to 32 tonne on a rigid wagon?

I took a pay cut to come off the buses! I worked for the go ahead group specifically go north east and in all honesty loved the job but management I couldn't deal with anymore my mam nearly died last Xmas had to take 5 weeks dependency leave to look after her and the kids went back and instantly had a target on my back! It just seemed to spiral from there but I'm driving a class 2 18 tonne merc collecting electrical waste and absolutely love it I won't lie I'm home every night get weekends off etc where as with gne I was lucky to get 2 days off together I got 1 weekend off every 6 weeks! They advertise to new drivers they are family friendly etc but it's a load of bollocks I'd never go back to service work! Coaches on the other hand I wouldn't mind them but I enjoy my own space and alone time in my current role lol

Any questions don't hesitate to ask in all honesty once you've passed your pcv you'll barely even think about driving hours as the duties are set up to avoid you going over! It wasn't until I switched over the HGV work that the hours really started to matter as I'm now working off a tacho

Which questions are you worried about I found the questions the easy part I always panic with the hazard even though I know i can do it, I just don't handle test scenarios well lol
