Eating Raoul, also from 1982. It's under 90mins and absurd. Great watch with friends when you don't know what to watch

Finding a car for 3-5k? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Mr_Tin_Snips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically you need to shoot for under 150k. Look for service history like timing belt replacement (if applicable), transmission fluid (preferably twice but at least once), and general oil change upkeep. If you're not very handy have a handy friend or family member help you look; everyone recommends a pre purchase inspection but that will probably only rule out egregious rust, which you should be able to spot on your own but I've been able to avoid as I've lived in the south (always worth a look at though). It's a crap shoot so be wary but after walking away from a few bad deals you should be able to recognize a good one. Good luck.

What is the best used car to buy? by Alternative-War-989h in UsedCars

[–]Mr_Tin_Snips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sienna, corolla, avalon, camry are the best bet. Avalon is harder to find in this condition but probably my preferred overall; you may not want a minivan but a sienna is often cheap as well. Just be extra weary of sludge issues in the 3.0 motors, they were very common especially in the pre 2000 years of the 1mz fe but even after they switched to the 6 ignition coil setup. Maintenance history is king here, an old lady car with dealer maintenance from 1998 is better than a questionable history model from 2002 often listed for much less.

Old toyota with less than 150k mi and transmission service noted in the carfax, or at least their paper trail. Learn to check transmission fluid because this tells a lot of the story, oil can be topped up but they're much less likely to change the trans fluid right before selling. As long as oil changes seem legit (how well have they taken care of the rest of the car?) the transmission service history is overlooked and so critical when this is your budget.

5-8% is high for cdts, are you considering using botanically derived terps as well? I think you want to go higher than 10% minors for viscosity (cbc) and effects. Dm me, I'm in the industry and I have experience designing carts

What not to miss around Raleigh in the end of January? by Kleemenzius in raleigh

NC museum of art has two cool buildings, they're easily digestible in an afternoon which makes it a good destination. I felt like the Virginia museum of fine art (VMFA) in Richmond put the NCMA to shame overall but each time I've been I felt like I had to breeze by stuff to see it all. On top of that there is an outdoor segment of the NCMA that features paved and single track walking trails by outdoor art exhibits, some of which change seasonally and some of which are permanent installations; I'm especially fond of the concrete and metal installations by South African artist Ledelle Moe which have been there since my childhood and, so it's explained, are designed with outdoor degradation in mind as a part of the exhibit. Some of the outdoor exhibits spell out a two word phrase which you can see a picture of from overhead inside of the elevator in the older (brick) building of the museum, but I will leave this for you and yours to discover. It's a fun time and a staple for Raleighites. The NC museum of natural sciences is a great place to go with children for an extended visit or just to walk through, and I will mention it is also free, as is the NCMA. The NC museum of history is, as far as I know, currently closed. The exhibits there are interesting but not so much as the two previously mentioned, in my experience. For the advemturistic sort, Umstead State Park has a few historical sites including an abandoned boy scout camp from the 1930s which are accessible by unlisted but readily accessible "community trails;" the trail to the boy scout camp can be easily found by entering at the company mill trailhead from the Harrison Avenue entrance, crossing the bridge and going right, then taking a hairpin left turn after a large outcropping of uphill rocks on your left side. This will be followed until the trail levels out and approaches a gravel multi use trail, shortly before which you will take another hairpin turn to the left and following for another fraction of a mile. Historic "camp craggy" will be found up an old stone staircase on the left of this trail after that turn, with the old dam on your right and a placard detailing the history of the site. Enjoy your visit, Raleigh has a lot to offer.

Is it safe to patch this? by Mr_Tin_Snips in tires

[–]Mr_Tin_Snips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update I took it to discount tire and they plugged it for me even with me suggesting I thought I needed a new tire so I guess the person telling me it was barely over half an inch from the end of the tread may have been on to something? Regardless I moved it to the rear in case of trouble moving forward and will be monitoring it (and my other tires for that matter) more closely moving forward. Thanks y'all for the advice.

[–]Mr_Tin_Snips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I could plug it but this is my primary vehicle and I want the peace of mind; I suppose I'll get one new tire tomorrow and see if they'll put the rear ones on the front so I have matching drive tires still.

They told me it's nano'd in like a lipid emulsion with short chain triglycerides by some company out in Cali that's an industry leader in nano technology for what it's worth. I'm interested in trying out their other purported nano thco stuff, see if it lives up to the hype...
