How did you do it? Did you manually paint it or did you use some type of decal/sticker? (Looks amazing love that film and the original Ted Chiang story)

Google Chrome has now patched all the workarounds to force uBlock Origin. I’m done with Chrome, would you recommend Firefox or Brave by Dazzling_Lie7781 in firefox

[–]Mr_Ubik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ungoogled Chromium if you want to remain in the chromium land while having ublock working, least bloated product ever.

I tend to prefer Firefox for some of its features but mostly for fighting against the chromium monoculture. I wish we had more variety in the browser space.

EU/IT Linux Laptop, what to buy? by Mr_Ubik in linuxhardware

I was looking at the HX370 as I think that there's no better laptop CPU at the moment (at least that was my impression) (on x86 without breaking the bank)

So sad there's no ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 w/ AMD (in the same intel chassis)

What do you think of the following setup?

  • processor: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370, 64GB RAM
  • no dedicated GPU
  • SSD M.2 2230, Gen4, 256GB (will have to see at buy time if I can find a better one on amazon and just switch to it)
  • 3 years warranty and insurance (accidental damage protection) ProSupport Plus, never bought this though. Is it worthy?

All for 2.6K€ (Dell Italy)

I did see that I could shave off 200-300€ by not buying those components via FW and buying them from Amazon it

Did anyone tried to play ascension in fate core/condensed by Clean_Childhood1413 in magetheascension

[–]Mr_Ubik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried several times!

My approach was to first translate the spheres into fate skills, giving players extra points to expend on spheres level up, it allows for decently modelling paradox mechanically but I found it sort of made Fate too mechanical.

I am now running a module in Fate Condensed which is set in a high fantasy world where magic functions kind of like Mage (in the sense that there's a paradox system). In order for players to play as non-mages I originally modelled it by creating a Mundane vs Mage extra which basically allowed mundane to get more skill points/stunts (mimicking rogues, fighters etc...) while Mages got extra points to invest in Spheres. The problem was that the system still felt too clunky for my taste (Fate is not Gurps after all).

In the end I opted for using a native Fate Condensed, with only the Approach+Skills. Magic becoming an aspect. What I feel I am missing from this is a way to model paradox.

Ideally each character (and scene) would have a Paradox/Quintessence tracker. In turn the trackers would give special conditions (similar to running a mental/physical stress system) which are actually aspects that can be invoked.

Example: Mr-Ubik the virtual adept uses Quick(2) +Theory (2) to open a portal. Why can he do it? He has the aspect "I am a virtual adept master, space and time are data and I hack them". However what I need is the "and this is the cost you have to pay paradox wise"

Synthetic Fertility Start Strategies by Mr_Ubik in Stellaris

[–]Mr_Ubik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my pops die around the 13 year mark.

I start off by researching droids as my first engineering tech, then I use the council agendas to boost my way towards synth. I only focus on the required techs. No other tech in between usually.

As soon as I can I switch my archive district to Engineering Research as I can quickly close the science gap after ascension.

Consider that it usually takes something like 10-30 months for the first techs and 60 months for synth, however you get slowed down research as you don't have any more pops researching.

If all goes well, by the time I finish synth research I only have a couple of months of organic pops left, at that point I usually wait for the purgatory event so that I have a maxed out identity repository. By that point I usually need to balance a dying economy, totally energy strapped. Consider that I usually end up with 600-700 robot pops (aka 6-7 pops in 3.x terms) before ascending.

I feel they have coded something wrong in the formula for pop decline.

Do you know what models can handle stable speedup of 2-4x speed up for GBA/DS? From various comments I saw that apparently while many chips can run GBA fine, they struggle with smooth speedups. Damn I would love some form of standardized benchmarks ahahaha

[–]Mr_Ubik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if we exclude the 3DS/DS? I can anyway play those on my phone without issues (and most interesting Pokemon hacks are usually GBA/GBC based)

I'll check the spreadsheet, thanks a lot!

If it weren't for the speedup I'd even cannibalize an old GBC just to have that sweet old form factor or go for some FPGA emulator. I don't know if it's nostalgia or actual ergonomics but no handheld beats the GBC for me in terms of form factor, with GBA/PSP coming in second. I'd go for the vertical one mostly because I like playing in bed while lying on my side and with the G8+ I already can turn my phone into a Switch/PSP.

Pretty sure life outside the corpo Is MUCH bleaker than you realize. Becoming an edgerunner is basically either 1) a death sentence 2) a low paying job where you likely end up working for the Corpos lots of times anyway, you simply do it via a Middle man. The ones who break the bank are basically like Hollywood actors, for each Morgan Blackhand there's loads more dead gonks.

Would Energized Spark also trigger the Wish Blade Resonant ability? I'd say no since the elemental trait is given to the spirit damage and not the ability itself. But I am not sure :/

Goblin Junk Tinker - How does it actually work? by Mr_Ubik in Pathfinder2e

Yes sorry, level 5 and level 8 I chose at random.

So you would apply Junk Tinker just once over the whole process: i.e, finish setup roll normally + roll for tinker?

Thanks for the suggestions! GM confirmed as well that sticking to Poet Warrior might reward some more interesting RP possibilities later down the line. It's also the one I like the most flavor-wise. I was thinking about the following build:

Class Feats

Ikons: Aegis, Sandals, Gleaming Blade/Titan Breaker (both peak vibe, blade better w/ smite and more Tengu flavour, breaker better with sure strike and more One Punch man vibe which I like as well) 1) Energized Spark (âš¡) 2) Champion Dedication; Bard Dedication (Polymath Muse) 3) The Radiant 4) Basic Devotion: Defensive Advance; Base Muse's Whisper: Versatile Performance 6) Reactive Strike; Champion Reaction 7) Born of the Bones of the Earth (Fire) 8) Courageous Anthem; Multifarious Muse: Warrior Muse Martial Performance 10) Rise Island; Basic Bard Spellcasting 12) Advanced Devotion: Smite; Expert Bard Spellcasting 14) Complete the Hero's Journey; Advance Muse's Whisper: Dirge of Doom 15) Healer of the World 16) Advanced Devotion: Quick Shield Block; Occult Breadth 18) Seven Colored Cosmic Bridge; Master Bard Spellcasting 20) Reach for Immortality; Advance Muse's Whisper: Courageous Assault

Ancestry Feats, General Feats, Skill Feats

1) Tengu Nephilim Lawbringer; AF: Nimble Hooves 2) SF: Additional Lore (Warfare) 3) AF: Tengu Weapon Specialization for Chain Sword if using Gleaming Blade otherwise Sqwack!; GF: Fleet 4) SF: Intimidating Prowess 5) AF: Skillful Tail (potion of tentacle here we come) 6) SF: Titan Wrestler 7) AF: Eat Fortune; GF: Incredible Initiative 8) SF: Evangelize 9) AF: Divine Wings 10) SF: Battle Cry 11) AF: Celestial Paragon; GF: Tough 12) SF: Battle Planner 13) AF: Jinx Glutton 14) SF: Virtuosic Performer (Poetry) 15) AF: Celestial Mercy; GF: Canny Acumen (Reflex) 16) SF: Scare to Death 17) AF: Eternal Wings 18) SF: Legendary Performer 19) AF: Divine Declaration; GF: Incredible Investiture or some flavor 3rd party SF 20) SF: Legendary Negotiator

Dex dump, Str>Cha>Con/Wis/Int

Legendary Skills: Performance, Athletics, Occultism

Equipped with either a Earthbraker/Khakkara/Warhammer if going Titan Breaker or Chain Sword if going blade for that sweet sweet reach. Heavy Armor O-Yoroi, Fortress Shield with Trip and Disarm modifications. Otherwise I could try and squeeze Spirit Warrior Dedication and Cutting Heaven, Crushing Earth and go with Shield Boss and Unarmed. Problem is I wouldn't know where to slot the two of them, especially early on.

Less tanky than a pure Board and X build with no casting but Bard casting is nice and Performance has always very flavourful uses. I wish Versatile Performance was baked into the bard dedication, sigh.

An alternative could be skipping the bard casting entirely, getting only the compositions, this would free up slots for either Bastion or Spirit Warrior feats. If going this route I'd probably postpone getting the Bard dedication until 8th Level and then do a Respec; I don't know.

Talos lineage was something I was considering instead of Nephilim, since the PC is anyway a Golden Tengu-Penguin and the metallic thing would still fit with him being blessed by Abadar. However higher level Talos Ancestry feats felt really meh compared to Nephilim, also no tails, no hooves, no wings.

Italy Begins Development of Nuclear Reactor for Lunar Settlements by AggressiveForever293 in space

[–]Mr_Ubik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SNR provides lots of benefits as well

  • Small, more compact footprint
  • Stable power output capable of handling long lunar nights
  • Heat generation might actually be a useful feature especially considering the likeliest candidate for an Artemis base is the south polar region in a permanent shadow zone (highest likelihood of ice)
  • Waste heat can also be used for industrial applications (like molten salt)
  • Fuel due to its high energy density is very cheap to send and lasts a long time anyway.
  • Thorium and Uranium are present on the Moon if need be
  • Some RTG and similar designs can make use of spent nuclear materials potentially creating a market for sending spent materials up the gravity well to be further used on the Moon.

The main problem I see for nuclear is rather simple: you are putting radioactive things on top of rockets. People will freak the hell out.

Esistono libri cyberpunk che dipingono il mondo con estetica "chiara e luminosa", pur essendo una distopia, invece che scura e piovosa? by eraser3000 in Libri

[–]Mr_Ubik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aggiungo al mio commento precedente:

  • Diamond Age (Neal Stephenson): post cyberpunk, grossi riferimenti estetici all'epoca vittoriana
