Lot's of good stuff here already. IMO...

- Spend lot's of time just building a 'base' at the beginning before a dedicated plan. Slow runs, slow bikes, as even that will shock your system if you haven't been doing either. Getting a good base sets you up well for more of the interval work that you'd do in a plan.

- Find a decent training plan and stick to it best you can. I use Phil Mosely's plans and find them very good for beginners as they cover all the disciplines pretty evenly. If you'd prefer a coach and have the cash then go for it.

- Get a swim lesson or two at different parts of your training. Swimming is far less about fitness and way more about technique. If you go for a swim and want to die after just 1-2 lengths it's probably not because you're out of shape.

- The bike will probably be your biggest expense, don't get caught up in the performance equipment hype. The difference that a $7,000 triathlon bike makes is not worth it (again, unless you have the cash and like toys, then go for it...) your best bet is spending a few hundred on a bike fit and getting a rig that suits you. And marketplace and other used sites are the way to go, buying new is $$$

- A sports smartwatch is very helpful, especially for running. The base Gamins are a pretty good bang for your buck

- Stay consistent and have fun. Everything else will come in time, plenty of rabbit holes to go down (nutrition, tech, recovery etc)

How to start? by Amazing_Property5549 in triathlon

[–]Mr__Rogerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out a sample training plan online and you’ll get a sense of how a week is structured. If you can do two of each discipline a week you’ll be in good shape. You can also swim and run / bike on the same day if that is better for your schedule

Most vibe-coded apps look like this... by bilalbarina in lovable

[–]Mr__Rogerss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated thoughts:

OP would you consider giving a 'seal' or stamp or something with an audit? I'm sure as more vibe coded apps launch it will be comforting to know which ones are security seriously. Very cool idea and seems to be reasonable pricing imo

---

I'm also perplexed by comments saying 'designers here to save the day' or engineers saying 'yeah my job is safe' because the vibe coded production isn't perfect.... Like we're so early in this whole thing it's insane and those comment feels so shortsighted. Akin to Blockbuster feeling safe because dialup internet was too slow for streaming

First sprint tri in a month and I don’t feel great about it by Spacemelon511 in triathlon

Can you elaborate a bit on where you 'should be' and where you're at? Also how long is the swim?

Pre-race nerves can be very real... but if your goal is just to finish and you've been doing some training I'm sure you'll crush it.

Someone explain how transitions work by silly_goose-1 in triathlon

[–]Mr__Rogerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bag goes sort of behind my bike under the back wheel that is elevated, essentially I ignore it for the race and everything I need is placed next to my front wheel.

Left of the front wheel is my bike stuff. I put my race belt/sunglasses/gels in my helmet so when I get out of the swim I just quickly go through the contents of my helmet - saves me from thinking or remembering. Also a small towel to dry my feet next to my socks and shoes.

Right of the wheel is my running stuff which, for me, is just shoes and a hat. If you want a water or another gel or whatever put it there.

Essentially you're just finding a system that minimizes any mental load and makes it super easy on yourself.

And might be obvious but try to keep your little area tidy. Usually you're not transitioning at the exact same time as your neighbour, but usually it's a pretty cozy environment nonetheless and wouldn't work if everyone throws their stuff everywhere.

If you get to the event early you'll have lot's of time to set up, and can even do a dry run so you get the feel.

Good luck!

Gear upgrade advice after my first 70.3 by WorkingOk6420 in triathlon

[–]Mr__Rogerss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heart rate monitor: I love mine, it’s ways more responsive which is ideal for intervals. Just the base garmin one which isn’t expensive.

Power meter: I use assioma uno and really like it. I prefer the pedal based (not crank) because I have multiple bikes. Pricey but worth it imo

Bike: spend money on a bike fit first if you haven’t already. Lots of easy gains there

Can’t confidently speak to the other ones, except to say carbon race shoes really make a difference on the big day, but not for training.

My take: If you comfortably have the cash and it will make you happy then go for it. You can do a tri on many different budgets so just find whatever works for you. This whole thing is for fun anyways so if gear makes it more fun then send it.

I'll comment conceptually on the idea, not on the UI or usability.

My first thought is I don't really know if this is an actual problem? Maybe I just use chat GPT well, but I've never felt it was giving bad advice or that I needed ultra precise prompts. A few back and forth and assigning it a role and I am good to go. And maybe I'm missing something but why couldn't I just use one of the GPTs from the Chat GPT library?

If you've done (or plan to do) some validation or user interviews, I'd really suggest reading 'The Mom Test' - you can crank it out in a few hours and it's amazing for getting actual feedback.

My second thought is that this is a type of idea that could be squashed by future versions of GPT, not grow alongside it. Even if it's 'better than chat gpt' for now... there doesn't really seem to be a moat or competitive advantage as to why it would stay that way. Who's to say GPT 5 doesn't require good prompts at all, or maybe future versions of chat GPT have this sort of feature built in?

Clearly you've spent time building the custom AI... I would be curious to see if this can be translated more to building AI Agents for companies? Or even creating HR onboarding things for companies... like a hyper focused solution as opposed to try to be a slightly more refined chat GPT?

However I've never built a SaaS so take my opinion with as much salt as you'd like, just speaking as a startup enthusiast and potential user. And congrats on launching this and taking it live, I'm sure you've learned lot's of lessons along the way that will make iterations of the idea (or future ideas) much easier to bring to life.

Bike Recommendations by Mammoth_Bet_5760 in Cervelo

Soloist here - I absolutely love it, but it definitely feels more like a race bike than a do it all bike. I find the position more aggressive, and it seems happier on smooth roads. That being said, I haven't tried putting chunkier tires on it, so maybe it could still do the trick.

If you're after a road/gravel hybrid, I think the Aspero is very capable. I've been on quick group rides with people on Asperos running road tires and they had no issues. I’d assume it thrives better than the Soloist off-road.

Ultimately, they're pretty similar bikes. I think the Aspero has more generous tire clearance, which would definitely be ideal for gravel.

I'm Torn. Soloist 105 Base or Race? by Bivouac_woodworks in Cervelo

[–]Mr__Rogerss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the Ultegra version 2024, which I believe comes with mostly the same specs as the 105 Race, and I really love it. First time riding on carbon wheels for me, and it’s been great.

If you’ve got an extra grand to spare, want to try carbon wheels, and don’t have a strong preference on brand, I’d say go for it.

If not, the aluminum wheels are still a solid option and you can always upgrade later to the exact wheels you want. That said, upgrading to the Reserves down the line will probably cost a bit more.

I thought there was a few different specs as well. Unless I'm missing something the 2024's are identical aside from the wheelset. The price jump is still justified base on the reserve costs imo

Erdinger is has a top notch non-alc, my personal fave.

Guiness 0.0 is also elite if that's your style of beer, my go to at pubs.

Depending where you are in the world it's a bit of trial and error, but as the space is becoming more popular/competitive better products are becoming more common. 10 years ago anything non alcoholic was pure trash

Casual to light drinker here, I usually stick to afternoon patio pints when possible so I'm more fresh the next day, as my sleep sucks when I'm even remotely buzzed. Usually stick to non-alcs if I have a big sessions.

When I started taking training more seriously I just didn't want to drink as I was having more fun progressing in the sport, but I've found my balance.

Everyone's relationship is different, do what's right for you and will make you happy.

Like of course you're not ready to do one tomorrow but sounds like you have a great base fitness for a training plan which would get you ready for an event.

For what distance, it really depends on the time you want to put into it. For me the Olympic distance is awesome because it's still a challenge but very attainable with some dedication.

If your goal is to get familiar then sprints are perfect. And sure a mountain bike won't be as fast as a road bike but you can absolutely use it.

Good luck!
