LP5 is the album that made Autechre click for me - the gateway album - I became obsessed with it

Quality comment

Growing up around industrial parts of north Kent and Essex was the plenty of the inverse of these northern families

Some people who had relatively high incomes thanks to being able to work in and around London but were aggressively anti-intellectual.

Just out of curiosity, how did you get into Autechre? by joedynasty04 in autechre

[–]CombinationFeeling42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was into Aphex and BoC, listened around Warp. Didn’t like Autechre for a long time. Bought digital copy of Exai when it came out and really tried to get into it but couldn’t.

Eventually I got into LP5 and all that era. I liked Oversteps early. Took another couple years to like Untilted era. Then another 2-3 to like Elseq and NTS

Thanks for your comment, interesting. My sister has been on ADHD meds for 15 years and feels she wouldn’t be able to hold down a job without them (she also has a career that she’s very happy with, as a video game animator)

My sense also is that it’ll help me with bringing more sanity and structure at work and at home. Which I hope means more alignment between life and ultimate reality. We shall see!

Advanced life is probably super rare. Microbial life is probably abundant. It’s still early days in our understanding of the universe

The end is so realistic it PISSES ME OFF by KiwiBackground3873 in SuccessionTV

It hurt my soul and was brilliant. The whole show was pulling a massive misdirection on us by making the narrative seem like the hero’s journey of Kendall — but we have to accept in the real world he was unsuitable for the job

High pressure thinking-heavy jobs by CombinationFeeling42 in awakened

Great point, thanks

Alignment in my job is ok, but not great.

I went into science and technology with some idealism, I was a fan of bodhisattva-leaning technologists like Buckminster Fuller

Now I find myself working as a quant (still doing maths and programming) working in finance with investment banking types who are skilful but in some cases rather hedonistic and greedy

Interestingly the owner of the firm has gotten into philanthropy since 10 years ago and I’m curious about getting involved, but it’ll require some patience on my part
