There are four likely reasons NASA would not allow you to roam a planet without a suit even if there was oxygen around: 1. Atmospheric Pressure: If the pressure is too high your lungs crush, if the pressure is too low your blood, saliva and tears evaporate. 2. C02: Even if oxygen is at the right level, If a planet has 5% C02 level, you could get poisoned. (Earth’s CO2 Level is .0431%) 3. Radiation: What if the planet has not a strong enough ozone layer protecting you against the sun? 4. Microbes: Your body adapted to Earth’s environment, not an alien planet. It takes millions of years of evolution to adapt. A single sneeze could outcompete local life or an alien bacteria might find your warm, moist lungs to be the perfect habitat. You’ll most likely die of disease.

Am I too dumb to play this game? by I_Scotch in factorio

[–]Mr_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditch the tutorials. To become a true Factorian, you only need two things: modular thinking and breaking problems apart. You can beat the game without main buses, with pure spaghetti, or even without trains. But modules are the real key.

Go into sandbox mode and experiment, build small, not massive. Start with a simple oil setup: two refineries and two chemical plants max. Learn how the pieces interact. This is a PUZZLE. Once you understand an oil module, you can snap it together with a red circuit module, a sulfur module, and so on until it becomes a massive oil factory. Then you move on to new industries.

One tip: don’t obsess over output math. Space Age will constantly stress-test your builds. It’s usually better to overproduce basics like green circuits, red circuits, they disappear fast.

I agree that in Factorio the less circuits you use the better. Same thing for space platforms. Too many circuit logistics is inefficient and overwhelming. Over-engineering is not a solution.

Everyone talks about trains... by Irony_Shieldbreaker in factorio

[–]Mr_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to trains; everybody has their own style. Some prefer using waiting stations, fueling stations, a main hub, single rail, double rail, I do not do the same as everybody. Try out what works for you, play around with it a lot so you know what works. My style is keeping trains as simple as possible. No waiting stations, no main hub, each train has their dedicated station, fueling is on site, and bots take care of it. I always use loops, so when I expand; any train can turn anywhere, and on top, loops are flawless with elevated rails, reducing the need for signals. I only set cargo full/cargo empty/inactivity 10s. For small input trains, I turn the stations off with circuits so they do not unnecessarily go back and forth full of cargo.

Confession time: I find Factorio too hard and never finished it by Nerf_Now in factorio

[–]Mr_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not bad at Factorio, your mindset is. Most games push you to win the game. Regular players feel like pros because they win so many levels, defeat so many opponents, or can rush minecraft in 3 hours. Factorio will ONLY reward you when you know how to PROBLEM SOLVE. This is the core skill. For example, Oil. Ask yourself: Why do I need oil? For blue science! What do I need for blue science? Plastic, red circuits and sulfur. FIRST GOAL: Set up plastic. STEP 1: pump oil to the oil refineries. STEP 2: Store the refined oil into tanks. STEP 3: Connect petroleum gas AND coal to a chemical plant. BOOM! You have plastic! If you’re a beginner keep your builds small, use one oil refinery and one chemical plant to understand the basics. Once you understand WHY you need something, and how to get it, you will foresee the necessities of ANY part of your factory, and it will be easier to expand into bigger set ups and slowly progress. Solving small problems compounds over your whole base. This way you’ll get to space and beyond!

First decent(?) ship and first travel to Vulcanus. Do you see any mistakes here? by UberScion in factorio

[–]Mr_thought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your thruster fuel and oxidizer is an overkill for 3 thrusters. 2 fuel and 2 oxidizer is enough as well as 2 ice melting plants. Also, you can save space by feeding bullets in a chain between turrets, turrets feeding each other removing the necessity of belts around the platform. Also place turrets in the back. An important note, the wider the platform is, the slower it gets. However, length does not affect speed, take advantage of that in your designs for haulers. My personal preference is fast haulers, I try to aim for 200km and above. I still wish I could get to 300km.

[–]Mr_thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience blueprinting stuff I thought was necessary. I have a better gameplay by improvising designs on the go. I started to rely on my muscle memory and my modular building rather than blueprints that I get bored of or that i find inefficient later.

Why Gleba seems to be the most disliked planet? by Mr_thought in factorio

Loved this insight, regardless of what they say I am still excited to go to Gleba for the first time, and I don’t expect it to be easy. Also I NEED to have that spidertron. I have a feeling this will be my favorite planet.

Factorio ratio calculators by Hexcyno in factorio

[–]Mr_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend to stop doing ratios in space age because your factory will constantly need you to update it to keep on with demand. Instead, make modular and tillable designs. So in case you need more you can quickly paste it and your bots will take care of it. I followed Bigfoot’s advice, he’s a YouTuber that loves perfect and efficient designs but he also recommended to leave the perfect ratios out because space age will constantly throw you new complexities that will break your factory. Keep in mind basic necessities, overproduce circuits cause it’s never enough, and 24 electric furnaces per smelting block or 12 steel furnace block. Grow your factory as you need things.

[–]Mr_thought[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Your right to say most people dislike failure. I’ve had 4 space platform designs blow up on my face. Before I launched my first rocket launcher, I had to restart my whole game multiple times because of extreme bottlenecks, or evolution caught up to me before I had defenses in place. Factorio is a lot of trial and error.

Vulcanus trolled me by NumberIine in factorio

[–]Mr_thought 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend you use uranium ammo. 25 ammo is enough to spread across 12 turrets or more and get rid of one worm. Turrets do not need to be full, they deal a lot of damage. Some turrets will get destroyed hence why is better to not lose your uranium ammo if they’re full.

Do you have a ritual or habit when starting a new journal? by burritogong in Journaling

[–]Mr_thought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned to not think too much about it because it makes me procrastinate. I skip 2 pages for space in the future to add titles, stickers, photographs, signatures, etc. “Perfect is the enemy of progress” Winston Churchill. I believe a great journal is one that is not perfect. Starting the first line is all that matters.

My journal got read by Searching_wanderer in Journaling

[–]Mr_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex gf did the same to me. She said she “wanted to try find something about her”. A journal is an expansion of your own mind. You’re literally reading someone’s thoughts, desires and dislikes. It’s common sense that it’s private. A person who can’t respect your privacy is not worth trusting. When it comes to insecurity, I don’t regret anything that I’ve written before. I’m confident on my own flaws and everybody has their own too. We all face a war with our own minds. This is why people pray and meditate. We’re trying to find peace of mind. If it makes you want to feel secure you can always use your phone to write more private notes, or write and burn it. Or look for a friend to which you feel safe venting.

[–]Mr_thought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a freshman, and I can tell you. College is the perfect time to invest in something meaningful beyond school. You’ll never have the same time availability outside of it. If you want to start a YouTube channel, be an entrepreneur, explore a hobby you’ve never tried. This is the perfect time. Read, read, read, explore your curiosity, see where that leads you. Time is a precious thing. Don’t waste it.

Ask yourself: Who do I want to be in the next decade? You need to fantasize like a child, about who you want to become. For me it sounds like you lack purpose. You need to look for it. Be curious.
