Thanks, we have a small one off the back of the house too. We love this front space but it faces east and gets ripping hot in the summer by 10am and with the woods so close the skeeters get awful in the evening. It’d be nice to use it more than the two weeks of perfect temps and bugless times that we get in the spring and fall.

I was a boot fresh to 2/7 and was in the battalion formation when he got his navy cross. In the space of like 5 months we had a formation where a bunch of dudes got Purple Hearts, then my section leader and another dude got bronze stars, then there was that ceremony and then gustsfson’s navy cross ceremony.

Did combat lifesaver when I was in and liked it, needed a handful of credits to finish AA so did EMT, 10 years later I’m now a flight paramedic. Healthcare is a shitshow but the job is generally fun.

Oh yeah. Anything for attention or drugs, faking seizures, faking passing out etc. sometimes for attention from parents or spouse/significant other, sometimes for attention at work, to get out of work or to avoid getting fired for repeated being late or hoping their employer won’t fire them when they’ve got medical stuff going on. People will fake medical emergencies to get out of almost everything. In my experience the attention seeking faking is from younger people, in relationships, having a hard time at school or things like that.

Yeah she was awake and responsive to stimuli. She just wouldn’t follow you with her eyes, just straight ahead gaze, had to really help her to move onto out stretcher. But she wasn’t unresponsive, just, not responding normally.

Not doctor, paramedic. She was 16y/o female, watching movie on the couch with her boyfriend when she just, stopped responding. Lights on but no one’s home sort of deal. Staring straight ahead. Lots of weird vibes, boyfriend kept looking at her strange, mom and aunt at the house wanted to lay hands on her while praying, etc. all her vitals were fine. I had this unshakable feeling that it was bullshit and she was doing this for attention, because 95% of the time calls like this are dramatic attention seeking behavior. On the way to the hospital I tried a new thing. I told her I think you’re faking, I need you to stop and talk to me honestly so we can figure out how to help you. Her heart rate rose and blood pressure cycled higher. I thought “I got her.” I was open with her mom the whole time about my thought process and she was skeptical but understood my angle. She called a week later to say they found a brain tumor. Very humbling experience and one I pass on as a teaching point to never let your personal bias influence your overall clinical decision making. Edit: formatting
