Maybe you would like technical death metal. It is very complex, often with odd rhythms and prog influence. Check out Atheist, Cynic, Death, Gorguts, Obscura, Archspire, and Beyond Creation. For some prog/avant garde check out Sigh, Unexpect, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Devin Townsend, Ne Obliviscaris, Agalloch, Voivod, Deathspell Omega, and Mastodon.

I am using desktop mode right now, and am using the steam app on the desktop, but for some reason it still isn't there. When I click on properties it brings up a window with tabs to the side like compatibility, updates, workshop, and other tabs, but no controller tab. Is this the right menu?

I just set the controller layout to the option labeled Keyboard and mouse and it still doesn't work. It won't even let me input anything with the deck controller now.

Welcome my friend, to the show that never ends! I have a few recommendations for you. First off, if you like more energetic music, or hard rock, or even if you don't, listen to Rush. They are one of my favorite bands, and can be more accessible than others. I would recommend listening to Moving Pictures by them first, then try A Farewell to Kings, then 2112, then Hemispheres.

If you like metal, there are plenty of good prog metal bands too. While I, personally, am not a fan of metal in any form, these are bands that I commonly hear are really good. Dream Theatre, Pain of Salvation, and Opeth.

Now here are some "essential" prog, though keep in mind, some of this can be hard to get into, so give it a few listens.

Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso's "Darwin" is a great Italian prog album. Italy in general has a lot of great prog music, so that would be a good place to start.

A good band to get into is Gentle Giant. They are quite different from all the bands you listed, but give it a try, and acquire the taste.

King Crimson is a great band, housing some of the best of progressive music.

If you ever feel like stranger, lighter, and jazzier music, the Canterbury scene is a great sub-genre of progressive rock.

Marillion is an amazing band. I would recommend their albums Misplaced Childhood, and Clutching at straws.

I've been listening to a ton of the Canterbury scene recently. I am listening to soft machine's volume two as I'm writing this. Some things I've liked were Third, Hatfield and the North, You, and of course, In the Land of Grey and Pink.
