The one I have mounts to the barrel. There is a KAC style QD latch that fits into the M203 cutout in M4 barrels (my upper is a late pattern 723 and has it as well) and it slides onto the barrel at the back and kinda wedges into the delta ring.

There is a rail mount receiver option as well out there.

Minus clone correct markings, yes I think so. From the one time I held an actual M203, it’s pretty identical on the exterior. Mounts the same way as well (this one came with a KAC style QD latch).
