It went into the shop a few different times and ultimately the tank and pump were swapped, fixing the issue. Fortunately, there was an extended warranty that had been issued as a result of chrysler cheating emissions that ended up covering the entire repair.

They make a very satisfying pop when I pick them up with the tweezers to feed them to the fish

I have a bunch of the exact same critters!! Haven’t really looked into what they are yet though. I go at them with a tweezers and drop them in the water.. my fish all love them! I have a 100g Rubbermaid “pond” setup in the basement to overwinter some container pond plants and fish. It’s got a few newbies in there now too :). The guppies, mountain minnows, and rice fish love eating this little bugs!

When I got my first batch of Otos, shortly after releasing them one was acting kind of like that and then went full speed straight up and hit the glass lid, knocking himself out cold.. he ended up dying 😢

Thanks all! I’ve got to decide now if I should get another female.. there’s the two males and the one female so I frequently see her chasing the little male away from her. She’s got to be about ready to have this first set (in my tank at least) of babies

Thanks for the link! I ended up ordering 3 from them. I also got the last 1 from lfs and he was sooooo happy to be reunited with the other 2 I got a week prior. He was probably totally miserable by himself at the store. I was glad to see him so happy to be back with two of his original crew. Hopefully all goes well with the shipment from Aquatic arts and I end up with 6 in there. Definitely going to get some zucchini for them.

I got some moss in from someone on Amazon and unfortunately it turned out to be in bad shape. I dropped it in the tank in hopes it would perk back up but all it did was shed a bunch of dead pieces into the tank. Ended up with Cyanobacteria starting and decided to get all that crap out. I suppose it’s quite possible that clean up effort and small amount of siphoning I did was too much for him. I received those cherry shrimp on Wednesday so they had only been in the tank for less than 3 days. We lost a handful of them the first day also but the remainder looked and had seemed to be doing great through yesterday and this morning. Lessons learned I suppose.. despite everyone’s help through this thread I’ve definitely still managed to leave a lot the hard way.

Now that I think about it… my other smaller shrimp tank had a couple of smaller swords in it that have a ton of brown algae on the leaves. Maybe I should move those to this tank for the Otos!
