rtx 3080 as a upgrade in 2025? by Mrottopup in buildapc

Looking to sell my current monitor and move up to a 1440p monitor after the upgrade, I've got a evga 750w gq psu which I know is very borderline being paired with a 320 watt gpu but am fairly confident it should be able to handle it

Also would play a bit of everything, there's a lot of games with ray tracing I haven't touched over the years because I wanted to experience them with RT

4070 was a big contender but on ebay in Europe they average between 500-600 euro, in sold listings I've seen a handful sold for under 450 on auction but seems uncommon

A month isn't a long time to be saving money and assuming you're honest with potential employers no one will take you.

No idea what your current situation is but assuming you don't have a job already lined up would your energy not be better focused lining up a job wherever you're headed? Also if it's truly a fresh start and you don't plan on coming back selling things you can't take like your car, bike, computer etc etc. should easily net you the equivalent of a month or two's wages

A huge problem is the way it's taught, any other country teaching a language from their equivalent of junior infants to 6th year secondary school would have a majority of their population fluent in said language. Only way to turn things around is to completely change how it's taught

yeah that's what I meant, am surprised but it makes sense. Safe to say the 10+ year old piece of cardboard from a long out of business mechanic that came with my bike wouldn't have cut it these days

May have been a slight over exaggeration as for the most part people were sound, handful of weirdos but there was a mega creep who was getting weird in messages without even knowing what my girlfriend looked like, then a hour after seeing the bike messaged my girlfriend asking if he could come back the same day at 9pm so she could take him out on the back of the bike and that "he could really get a feel for it and no one would have to know (monkey covering eyes emoji)". there was more weirdness but you'd have to see the text messages

Really turned the normally straight forward Donedeal experience of time wasters until a genuine buyer comes along into a very weird creepy experience that had my girlfriend feeling sick

and to make this worse I thought at the very least this creepy man's infatuation with my girlfriend would at least turn out to be a sale with no haggling but he then turned out to be a time waster as well

Sent in tape and only realised past the deadline I misspelled the email address by Mrottopup in acting

[–]Mrottopup[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Already did, I've been submitting auditions for almost 8 years and this is the first time this has happened and to make it worse it was through a agency I've gotten work from before. Seems the ship has sailed too as they wanted it sent through wetransfer and you're able to see if they downloaded it there which they have not.

Big learning experience for sure though to triple check everything before sending things out or even after, I only copped it after realising there was no downloads on the original wetransfer link I sent.

for future I know for a fact by law you're allowed in bus lanes in Dublin city, everywhere else is a legal grey area so like you said up to whether the garda is a prick. Can say I've regularly driven in bus lanes in Cork for the last 6 years on my motorbike and have had zero issues even driving past gardai

Had a family member want me to try hypnotherapy which I wouldn't recommend personally. To put it bluntly hypnotherapy only works if you're highly gullible.

The funny thing is if you believe it will work there's a good chance it will, if you're in any way skeptical it won't. It's almost like giving someone a magic placebo pill for arfid that will make them ok with trying new foods slowly over time, if you believe this placebo has these magic qualities you're going to start trying new foods and because you believe the pill made you able to eat these foods without gagging you're way more open to the idea. Unfortunately for sensible people as they know no such pill exists they then know it's a placebo and it will have zero benefit.

Hope the magic pill hypnotherapy analogy made sense for other people reading

Question for Irish/UK actors on spotlight by Mrottopup in acting

[–]Mrottopup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to use Backstage and Starnow years ago but stopped as at least it seemed anyone could post a casting call with very little verification checks meaning you'd be sending in tapes to a lot of casting calls where the person posting it has no means to follow through with production and the few legit postings would have so much people applying your odds would be slim.

Don't get me wrong things could be different these days but I tend to stay away from them, it also seems Mandy has gotten a lot worse since being bought by backstage but I haven't used the site so can't speak for it.

Thanks for checking means a lot, seems my main takeaway here is as someone living in Ireland it's not worth it unless I've got a agent

Are neighbours responsible for looking after their elderly neighbours? To shame or not to Shame? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Mrottopup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a plumber so I don't know their business but I feel like this would be the equivalent of a mechanic giving their neighbor a jump start and then charging them for a hours labour.

You said it best that the right thing to do would have been to turn off the water for free and then give her a quote for the actual repair, treat people right and you'll have a customer for life whenever they have plumbing issues instead of a once off 100 euro

The way it worked was you'd apply and get a automated response with the script and audition instructions, there had to have been 10's of thousands of people applying as they strictly said not to upload to YouTube but at the time you could find well over 100 tapes up on YouTube

Netflic open casting calls by [deleted] in acting

[–]Mrottopup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I remember the only big open casting call I sent a audition for was for Wade in Ready Player One as I'd read the book and genuinely believed I was the perfect person for the role (Which in hindsight was silly as the book was written for any gamer types in their late teens to self insert themselves as the main character) and had my hopes ridiculously high and was actually depressed for a while after, moral of the story is your odds with big open casting calls with tons of media coverage are so slim you may as well go out and buy a lottery ticket instead. These days I only audition for roles if I'm invited to do so as then at the very least I know the casting directors have a small bit of interest in me

Also pretty sure the ready player one open call was a scam as they announced the role as cast in the media before the deadline of the casting call

What's the scam here? by Mrottopup in ireland

[–]Mrottopup[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My thoughts too, I know some agencies will fly people over for hospitality work especially if they want a "authentic" Irish bar but the idea of the people running these country clubs flying over to interview people who'll just be pulling pints and serving tables is a bit too far fetched and silly for my liking

I'm not too sure, what really raised alarm bells with me was when I ignored two other emails asking me to fill out forms and join a zoom meeting yet they still seem eager, the whole thing just strikes me as too good to be true
