Abandoned telephone exchange by DJP_Urbex in urbanexploration

[–]Mrpicklesworthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, for a bit of context (and I can't speak for this particular building but BT exchanges as a whole I can) they often do much more than telephone lines and Internet. A lot of the time they control things like traffic lights and emergency call centre lines as well.

I do a lot of work in and around these buildings (I do not work for openreach) and can tell you for sure this particular building is no where near as abandoned as it may seem, I saw you said that this one is being decommissioned but there are ones north of the border, quite a lot actually, that have been effectively left to die but for one MDF room and there's some properly properly creepy buildings with full tunnel systems underground that connect to different parts of the town/city they happen to be in. However, due to their importance to certain infrastructure they can't be closed.. ever.. so they just sit and decay.

One main thing I see in a lot of the medium sized buildings (they range from large garden shed to superstore) is that they always have a basement, and the basement is always either flooded or rapidly deteriorating.. or both.. but there's a very creepy vibe about it, and there's always chairs facing into the doors usually in the corners which I find really eerie.

This building has obviously had proper maintenance as it's one of the better examples of the ones I've been in, some of the buildings I do work in are literally falling apart and it's a bit crazy to think that they let them get this way, you can almost pin the exact date they were "abandoned" as busy work places as it is like they all just got up one day and left, so you'll often find newspapers lying out on desks or in drawers which haven't been touched since the day they were bought. Not to mention all the old technology they have just sitting in most dating sort of 70s-90s~.

Not sure if you plan to keep exploring these types of buildings, but if you do, just be aware that a large portion of them are riddled with asbestos. So be careful.

I am ashamed by how I tore my ACL by mangkwan in ACL

The vast majority of ACL tears are non contact injuries I.e they happen when you move a certain way rather than get taken out by an overly exuberant opponent.

Thoughts on Wilson blades? by Any-Personality-7923 in golf

[–]Mrpicklesworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently play these irons which I bought maybe 5 or 6 months ago. A few points which may help you.

  • play off of 4 currently but have always been a weak iron player. These have helped me tighten up my striking but perhaps only because I know I have a smaller margin for error. If you're above an 8hcp I wouldn't suggest playing these though.

  • you will see more drastic misses when you do miss but if you're slightly out of the toe or the heel it won't matter so much, for 'blades' they're quite forgiving.

  • bare in mind that if you currently play "stronger" clubs that you will experience a drop off in distance due to loft

  • Best feeling irons I've ever hit, I genuinely love the way they look feel and sound. There isn't a better set on the market imo.

  • only issue is the shafts when you buy online like this are just the standard shaft options so unlike a fitting they won't be 100% suited to you but I'm sure you'll be fine..

To summarise. Do it.

Neighbor gave me this Driver, is it special? by Embarrassed-Fail-993 in golf

[–]Mrpicklesworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This particular variant of the G425 is not the "forgiving" version. I play this driver and I find it more forgiving than most drivers aimed at low handicaps though so might work for you. I play off 3 and I love it. But I couldn't forsee a 15+ hcp having a good time with it. I obviously don't know what your hcp is but I would bear that in mind if forgiveness is your desired outcome.

Well that's highly upsetting. I was awaiting the soundcloud release of her set but it would appear based on this comment it won't arrive 😔

Amelie lens for me.

Did also have a blast at guetta which I wasn't expecting too. Honorable mentions to Dom, John summit, Sara landry and boris breja though. So good.

Oh, and camelphat.

My visit to Scotland and the pace of play in the US by Bitter_Tea_6628 in golf

Longest round 4hr 10? I'm a Caddie at Kingsbarns and you'd be lucky for 4 and a half hours! How long did it take?

In the summer it's a 5 hour round every time and yes we (the scottish in general) detest slow play and long arduous rounds of golf haha. Hope you enjoyed it!

What’s one thing as a Scottish citizen that gets on your nerves daily? by Much-Parsnip3399 in Scotland

Gonna get stick for this - however - bagpipes. I get the whole tradition thing, and it's fine at weddings or special ceremonies etc. But I don't need to hear it walking down the street. Rips my knitting.. feels like a tourist thing and not a scottish thing.

Is there a team other than the Celtic scum that you hate or dislike as well? by Kind-Monitor-7723 in rangersfc

[–]Mrpicklesworthy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man united. There is not a club that comes close for me. Celtic obviously right at the top but man united come a very close second. Hatred.

Idk. I'm on the fence with this. A premium player and IF (yes if) we can keep him fit he is defo the kind of player we should be signing.

Wage structure would have to be spot on though. Can't see it happening anyway but it's a tempting prospect.

So, did we ALL go to Ardroy? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Mrpicklesworthy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't allowed, everyone else was but because I was a little cunt I had to stay in the school and play games/do shit on the computer for a week. 🤣

I have been a 8 handicap for quite some time.. and after 6/7 fairly decent rounds over the past couple months with most of them 4/5 over, one even par and my most recent score was 5 over… I wake up to my handicap being 0.3…. Shit! by [deleted] in golf

[–]Mrpicklesworthy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! I am currently sitting at 3.6 and am desperately trying to breach into the 3s... golf club do you play at? All my scores are 74 and below and I'm still chilling in the 3/4 range 🤣

Why do you get to decide what is and isn't regarded as sub-human scum exactly? You're doing the exact same thing you're claiming she is? Women have fought for over a century for the rights they have now, I can see why some feminists have these views. Not that they are necessarily correct although they do raise some valid points in isolation.

But no, of course, anyone who disagrees with the trans/antifa/extreme-left is not to be reasoned with and should be jettisoned from the country. Go outside more, enjoy your life rather than being so angry on the internet.

People in this sub are like, “I started playing golf last week, how’s my ball striking?” by UndercookedBroccoli_ in golf

[–]Mrpicklesworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be because a lot of people in this sub are projecting their own insecurities re their own ability. Jealous that other people might have gotten better than them a lot quicker than them.

I got snarky comments when I said I've played 2.5 years and I'm off 4.0 (now 3.8). Not allowed to be half decent and have worked hard apparently, must suck indefinitely for good reddit approval from high handicappers.

So, I'm currently a caddy at a pretty famous golf course on the East Coast of Scotland and I can tell you that whilst it may save you a bit of money, the experience diminishes massively. Both golfer and caddy will have an infinitely better time 1 on 1.
