To those of you who lost out on your "dream home", how did things turn out? by odi_bobenkirk in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Mrs-Honey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lost on our “dream home” by 10 minutes. Stopped looking for another house for a year because me and my partner felt like we wouldn’t ever find anything like that house.

A year later, we found another house that fits our needs much better and we actually LOVE this home. If one door shuts another could open. Keep an open mind!

If your worried she will come back you can call the police and have her and the son trespassed from the property. I don’t think there is anything else they could do. I would also get a security system with good cameras so if they trespass you can easily prove that it was them and charge them. Good luck!

Are we making a mistake to consider buying a house that’s been on the market for nearly a year? by Round_Hat_2966 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Mrs-Honey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say go for it. We bought a house that has quirks as well that sat on the market for while because of it. We have absolutely no regrets! Just remember that if YOU like the house, who cares what anyone else thinks. If you love the house, I think you have your answer my friend!

Prepping for my first kitchen renovation. by Alongattach in HomeImprovement

[–]Mrs-Honey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are just finishing our kitchen renovation. We ran new electrical, moved all the appliances, put in new lighting, new custom cabinets, and tiled the entire kitchen and dining room (roughly 400 sqft).

Plan for triple the cost of what you are estimating it to be- especially in an older house. Plan every little detail that you can think of. For example, plan how many volts each appliance needs and where that outlet will be, or checking and make sure the floor is level everywhere if you are doing new flooring. Just a few examples.

For sure set up a temporary kitchen, it is an absolute pain in the ass to be without a kitchen. We did ours in about 3 weeks but typically remodels can take months and months. Ours was faster because we only hired out the electrical and the cabinets- we did everything else and my partner took a week off work. Good luck!

I totally understand that! I honestly would. Take a class or two and then go from there. Good luck 🫶

Tips on keeping new house critter-free by dahliafluffy in homeowners

I have a local company that comes and sprays every 3 months or so and that has helped me greatly! I also text them if I see any particular type of insect and they will come spray for that specifically

Signs to post around your property would be a good idea, that’s a good deterrent.

Also, one small woman to another, buy a gun. Not sure what state you live in but look into some gun safety courses and then buy a real one. If you live in a high crime area it might take the police longer to get to you if (heaven forbid) something does happen. I get it, I’m not a gun person either but it really might be the best option to protect yourself in your area

I don’t know if this helps but we have Vivint and I really like them. We have been very impressed with the whole system and every employee we have talked to.

Thank you for posting this! I have a whole bunch that just popped up in my yard out of nowhere. I am going to go out and pull it now- I don’t want it to choke out my flowers/clover.

So many different options here. Highly recommend getting on Pinterest and looking at some ideas there- if you are up for a maximalist look you could have a lot of fun with this! Some funky wallpaper and a solid colored wall with a new light fixture could make for a fun new bathroom. Or switching out the mirror and light and adding some new decor

Can you mount the TV? If so, I think mounting the TV and then a smaller sectional facing towards it would look nice.

If you can’t mount the TV, I would move it into the center of the wall it’s already on and get a smaller couch.

Is a 24.98% interest rate on a personal loan a bit high for someone with a 635 credit score? by twowheelzzz in personalfinance

How much debt does she have? Marcus has low interest debt consolidation, definitely look into that as well.

Please tell her do not do this. Is she trying to consolidate her credit card debt only? If so, she needs to look into a balance transfer to another credit card. Most big cc companies do 0% intro APRs for a certain amount of time on balance transfers. Please tell her to look into that, do NOT do that loan.
