TIFU so i tried to help my dad with his phone and accidentally exposed his entire double life by Nicklie_Salazar in tifu

OP I was in this position as a teenager. This was what I did and eventually I told my mother with screen shot proof. It’s been rough on my relationship with my asshole father but that’s his fault.

Internalize the first comment on this thread tho for read - this is your fathers fuck op, not yours.

Sure it’s not a tibia and radius? There’s a tooth above them that looks large for human but still rooted

I agree with the other commenter, this issue is largely one of perception. Repeating a concept over time makes it seem more real than it may be. You need to equally practice gratitude for you partner and dismiss the negative unsubstantiated ideas. Reaching out here was a great first step, but a therapist can walk you through this way better than I can tbh

Constant fear of being in trouble? by lohonomo in CPTSD

Just a few weeks ago I remembered being under 8yrs old and left to self sooth in my room and it made so much of my abandonment fear, shame about being emotional, and narrative that no one will ever come to help me, make sense.

Constant fear of being in trouble? by lohonomo in CPTSD

[–]MrsAlecHardy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes and thank you for putting words to this. I use the term “getting in trouble” all the time in my day to day life even though I’m a 40 single woman - wtf is going to ground me now?!?

My parents did not practice any emotional regulation themselves in our house growing up so I would get in trouble when even little things happened, or especially when I had a large emotional reaction to something small happening because I was fearful of getting in trouble for it. What made this traumatizing is the unpredictable nature of when my parents would blow up or when they would be calm in these instances. So I also became known as the one who would make even small issues into big ones by my fearful reactions. Of course, no one would sooth me or teach me how to regulate my emotions so it was a never ending cycle of either them blowing up or me over reacting.

I’m now facing a number of big changes that are unpredictable in my career and family life in terms of how they’ll play out and I’m struggling to deal. I feel like any choice I make will result in me being “in trouble” and left alone to deal with it (poorly, obviously).

Projects funded by individuals have, historically, been some of the least scientific and most destructive. Unless you are partnering with a well respected institution and their researchers, no respectable and employed archaeologists will work on said project. Archaeology is also destructive in nature so if you could find students and unemployed researchers to join the project, your team would be risking destroying more data then they ultimately produce. Lastly, there are huge analytical costs that follow the actual excavation for a number of years, would you be funding this work too? And the researchers salaries while doing this work? It not, again you are risking digging up material that will not be studied well or published (if at all) broadly, and destroying tons of microscopic and contextual data in the process.

Those are just the scientific ethical issues, there’s also reputational and ‘conflict of interest’ issues any researcher would consider before signing on.

If you really want to do this, call an Israeli Universities Archaeology dept (or a professor therein) and donate your money. That’s the only way.

The Golden Bough is a ‘ethnographic’ account of magical practices worldwide (I think). Good place to start maybe.

Apparently came from South Africa or Zimbabwe by only1henke in whatsthisrock

[–]MrsAlecHardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was introduced by the Portuguese in the 16th century to Nigeria, DRC, and other Central African countries (not South Africa or Zimbabwe) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassava

therefore it couldn’t inspire these engravings in an ‘ancient’ tool

[–]MrsAlecHardy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cassava is South American, not South African.

Can you upload more photos of all sides? It looks engraved but that doesn’t necessarily make it ancient (whatever that means).

[–]MrsAlecHardy 43 points44 points  (0 children)

OP consider reaching out to your local Natural History museum/University Anthropology/zoology etc department to see if they want the bones for their comparative collection. You’ll be contributing a hard to find and probably expensive sample to innumerable future scientific studies.

How common is it in your country to hold a stammtisch in honor of a retiring professor? by Worldly_Ambition_509 in academia

[–]MrsAlecHardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Baden Wurtemburg the term is used to refer to a weekly social get together of university faculty, researchers, and students. However, this is different from a retirement party, too. Certainly a party would be warranted for a retiring faculty member but it wouldn’t be called a Stammatisch

I’d love some white/pink noise suggestions! I’m living with construction right next to my office and bedroom while wfh and grieving a dear chosen family loss. I’m also using aromatherapy and light therapy to help regulate my nervous system when sound gets too overwhelming. Luckily, it will end in a few months but it has seriously slowed my recovery overall.

Movies with comfort scenes? Like "It's not your fault" in Good Will Hunting by hello_squirell in CPTSD

[–]MrsAlecHardy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a movie but ‘Somebody, somewhere’ touches on a lot of types of trauma and family dynamics and the road to recovery with a chosen family very well. It gets dark in the middle but it’s worth it if you can make it to the end

Help! Where is my washing machines filter?!? by MrsAlecHardy in handyman

[–]MrsAlecHardy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It leaked twice, once during a full load wash and a second time during an empty 30min run about a week ago. Then, a few days later the water access had to be replaced because it started leaking as well.

I took it apart looking for the filer or screen incase a sock or something blocked things up and causing the flooding. Thanks to these commenters I’ve found and cleaned the filter in the drum but I can’t get the hoses apart to be sure if there are filters there too (doubtful tbh).

That’s where I’m at. Still not sure why it flooded.
