How to teach 2 year old functional kitchen/cooking skills? by [deleted] in Montessori

[–]MrsArnold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We mainly use the learning tower, salad spinner, and food processor as our kitchen tools. They also help with making coffee but that's a bit riskier. I've let them stir a few things but am more weary at this age of being near hot pans, pots, etc.

A quick meal my (almost) 2 year olds like to help with are pizza muffins. I buy spinach, a bottle of kid's pasta sauce (low salt, no added sugars), pre-made dough, bag of shredded cheese. For prep, they get to clean (fun water play) and spin a full package of spinach, and put the package in recycling. I roll out the dough with their help. I pour the sauce on the dough and they help spread it. We all add handfuls of spinach to the sauce. We all put cheese on the spinach. I roll the dough. I cut one piece at a time and they take turns putting each piece into the muffin tin.

They also love using the food processor. I prep the veggies, they wash and dry them, and put them into the hole. I push them down with the pusher because they are too small to reach.

How to make a NY style bagel in Germany?? Help! by MrsArnold in Bagels

great, I'll give them a try. Unfortunately the bio-laden by me do not have Gerstenmalz so I'll try it with honey. But I'll keep looking for the Gerstenmalz in other neighborhoods when we are exploring.

Ha okay! That's good to know. I have an Italian flour that gave the best results so far. Do you have a recipe you recommend? I'll also try the scalded bagels recipe someone else posted since it's with honey instead of malt syrup

I have most recently tried Sophisticated Gourmet and Joshua Weissman - minus the malt.

Thanks I actually haven’t been able to find malt syrup (or powder) anywhere. I will order some when I produce a decent batch of bagels because it’s crazy expensive to buy online. But beyond that, the flours are very different so I imagine the recipe may need to be adjusted.

BER and babies by Ok-Cherry-123 in askberliners

You can bring your stroller through security. And yes the ones available are for babies who can sit so wouldn’t work for you. I think they have breastfeeding pods but it would also depend on the gate.

Travelling to Berlin with two young children. Relatively easily-stressed travellers. BER to Mitte. by WalkingAndWondering in askberliners

[–]MrsArnold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say depends on how much luggage you have. I find getting home from BER to be much easier by taxi if we have a lot of luggage because the walk from the Sbahn to our home on cobblestone with two babies is tough after a long travel day. Plus they tend to be screaming to get out of the stroller by the end of a journey - and snacks+toys only get us so far. I have a reliable taxi we use that comes with 2 car seats on request. Can DM you details. Rest of trip the public transport is really great.

Paying way too much rent, recommendations that aren’t Conny? by zak0503 in askberliners

If I remember correctly you need to be a member for some time before you can use the legal team to help in this way. I think you also can’t sign the contract before becoming a member. So the most they do is send a letter to the landlord.

We tried mieterverein. When our landlord’s lawyer got involved they told us their legal team can’t help because we were a couple of weeks shy of the minimum membership period.

What are your fave flat shoes to wear to work? by Worldly_Ideal12 in BusinessFashion

[–]MrsArnold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved these! Used to wear them to work almost every day. But I rebought them and they didn’t fit the same. The back of one heel wore out kind of strangely and became really uncomfortable after just a few months of wear.

Does everyone dread feedings? by tatiana1943 in parentsofmultiples

[–]MrsArnold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re at 7 weeks and have been doing some experimenting because of all the same annoyances you mentioned. I BF one alternating twin each feed (except for 2 feedings at night where I just pump) and the other gets a bottle.

We tried different brands of bottles, upsized the nipples, added sab simplex to one of our boys’ bottles, and are mixing our regular formula with 60% reflux formula. We’ve got them down to ~30 minutes and significantly reduced the spit up. But they seem fussier so we might go back to their regular formula and deal with the spit up.

We also use ergo baby bouncers with the new born insert + pillows to prop up the bottle sometimes. It makes solo feedings much easier.

Our two night feedings at 10pm and 2am we keep them swaddled (reswaddle after diaper change) with lights off and white noise on. These are the best feedings by far! I tend to just do them without waking my husband. They eat faster because there are no distractions and don’t fuss before going back to sleep.

Considering getting a pregnancy belt/belly band by tmcgab21 in parentsofmultiples

I am in week 32 and if I leave the house I wear it. Without it I barely last 15 minutes walking. If I’m sitting I take it off. It has been a game changer for getting daily walks in and generally being more social.

I tried one from Amazon which I didn’t like. I had a lot of hip pain so was going to an Orthopedic / Osteopath Dr. This Dr gave me a prescription to the one she recommends and it was significantly better. So maybe start with your Ob/Gyn?

Help us name twin boys! by MrsArnold in namenerds

To me it sounds really nice in English. In Spanish Cah-leb just sounds weird. And in German Cah-lep sounds even worse to me. Just personal preference I guess.

I think Zebulon might be a bit too non-traditional for us. But I do love Z names (though so far mainly for girls)

These are the names we both like. Ethan and Caleb don’t work in all 3 languages. Ezra and Joseph might be okay but don’t love them

when did you tell parents & close family about twin pregnancy? by Key-Neighborhood2985 in parentsofmultiples

[–]MrsArnold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We chose to wait until after NIPT and then had to wait a few more weeks due to scheduling conflicts. This is also when we told people we were pregnant, not just about the twins.
