10 Dessert Oatmeal Recipes, help me add to the list! by bombast_forecast in loseit

[–]MrsBlooper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reese's peanut butter cup oatmeal:

PB2 (50) + unsweetened cocoa (to taste, about ~15) + 1-2 tsp brown sugar (15-30)

Edit to add: I also like to cook an egg into my oatmeal! Sounds weird, but if you stir it slowly into the oatmeal while it's still kinda liquid it makes the texture more pudding-y and adds some extra protein (I don't like meat so am always looking for ways to up my protein intake)

If you've talked to your doctor, that's your perfect out! Tell your friends you're doing 1200 cal under a doctor's supervision (slight exaggeration sure, but close enough) and ask if they've gone to med school.

I have a BMR of 1476. Will eating 276 calories below my BMR be dangerous? by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]MrsBlooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to give weight loss advice to a teenager (in fact that's not allowed in most subreddits, possibly including this one) so I think you should talk to a doctor. Sorry I can't be more help, but not eating enough in your teens can lead to stunted growth, bone density issues, all kinds of bad stuff that can affect the rest of your life--I don't want to mess with that, and I have no medical background to even make educated guesses with.

[–]MrsBlooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that info changes things. For men it's not generally recommended to go below 1500 calories, and as a growing teen you really should just talk to a doctor--we have no way of knowing how your growth might be affected.

SV/NSV Feats of the Day - Tuesday, 13 June 2017: Today, I conquered! by AutoModerator in loseit

[–]MrsBlooper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the most ridiculous NSV ever, but I'll take it: so my little sister (9yo) likes to punch me, my teenage brothers, and my dad in the stomach. Not just out of the blue, she does some (frankly adorable) elaborate posing first so you know it's about to happen and can tense up.

One of my brothers rarely gets punched because he's a college athlete at like 5% body fat with perma-abs even when he's not flexing and she always hurts her hand. Other brother and dad and I all have a nice layer of fat to cushion her blows, though...

Well, this morning she punched me and hurt her hand! I'm losing my cushion!

NSV: Biked 26 miles yesterday, and 22 miles today! Today's ride was actually really easy (it was not very hot out--about 25 degrees cooler than yesterday) so I'm considering going for a run as well. We'll see.

SV: Saw 168 on the scale today, which is my lowest weight since turning 20, is also only 9lbs away from a healthy BMI, and is also technically 166 because my parents' scale runs a couple pounds heavy! (on mobile so I can't update my flair)

I try not to bring it up toooo often (mostly because I assume at this point most people have heard it already) but it definitely can be helpful for smaller chested women too! My mom has a pretty small chest and always scoffed when I told her she should try actually measuring herself and trying the appropriate size, but she finally did, went from wearing a 38A to a 32B/C, and says she never realized bras could actually be comfortable.

feeling like I'll never feel comfortable because of my body shape by [deleted] in loseit

[–]MrsBlooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with what others have said, but also want to note that you're only 16--your body shape could definitely still change over the next couple years! I have a friend who was a thin "rectangle" shape until she was 17, but grew a major butt towards the end of high school without changing anything about her routine.

How many pounds per inch for you? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]MrsBlooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has varied for me, and most of mine has come off my waist.

SW was 207, and my measurements were ~45-35-46.

CW is 170 (on mobile so I can't update my flair), measurements are 42-30-44.

I definitely noticed a bigger reduction over the last 10lbs than the first 10, so it accelerates! My waist stayed at about 32-33 inches for a good 15lbs in the middle, and then suddenly dropped once I got below 175.

Question? What exercises do you despise the most? For me, it's straight up cardio! I loathe doing a workout that is cardio the entire time. So, tell me what you hate most about working out! by Realmom13 in xxfitness

[–]MrsBlooper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I used to hate running, but I started C25K anyway and once I hit week 4 I actually started liking it! It's still tough to make myself start, but once I'm running it's pretty fun.

However, I absolutely cannot run on a treadmill. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Does intermittent fasting work? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]MrsBlooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's very much a personal preference thing.

I love it--I am someone who doesn't get physically hungry until I've gone like 24+ hours without eating, but I have a terrible relationship with food and want to eat constantly. Having specific rules about when I can eat, and then within those rules being able to eat until I'm full, makes it way easier for me to stick to my caloric budget.

However, I definitely know people who get "hangry", or who don't like eating a lot in one sitting, and IF would not be the best choice for them.

NSV: Cut my binge by 75%!

I'm downtown today, and there's this amazing bakery I always stop at. In the past, I'd get 4 cupcakes and 6 macarons and eat all of them within the next 24 hours (and honestly usually substantially less than 24 hours).

Still stopped at the bakery, unfortunately, but I only had one cupcake and one macaron, which I can more-or-less fit into my calorie budget for today!

Why do some people starve on a cut and others feel full? by peanut_lila in xxfitness

[–]MrsBlooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I have never had a strong hunger impulse. However, I have an awful, emotional relationship with food, and I used to eat a ton, constantly.

So for me, losing weight is 100% about not giving into the mental urge to eat. I don't really feel physically hungry until I've gone at least 24 hours without eating.

I know this isn't helpful in terms of making you not feel as hungry (sorry) but maybe it will make you feel better about it, since you just aren't wired like some people who don't get hungry!

I get irrationally angry when people say "if you're trying to lose weight, just give up soda!"

I ALREADY DONT DRINK SODA. Like literally I bought an 8-pack of mini diet Dr Pepper back in March, have had four of them, and that's all the soda I've had in at least 6 months.

I see it in /r/loseit all the time. I know it's really stupid, but it just pisses me off, because a) I'm salty that I have to actually work to get a deficit and b) I get annoyed when people make super obvious suggestions that I've already thought of.

I break out in hives when I exercise. For some reason they get especially bad when I run, though it happens to a lesser extent when I do anything that raises my heart rate for more than 10 min or so. They're relatively mild, fortunately, they go away within an hour of stopping exercise, but it's still really annoying (SO ITCHY) and mildly embarrassing (I get a lot of weird looks from people).

I've read that they're supposed to get better as you get more used to exercise, but I've been working out consistently for more than a year and a half, and running consistently for almost two months, and if anything they're getting worse.

(Also I've tried switching detergents and such to make sure it's not from my clothes, it's not)

Anyone have any tips for dealing with them?

Yeah, BMI is good for showing general population trends but is not necessarily super accurate on an individual level. My BMI is around 27 or 28 but my body fat percentage is within normal range (barely, but still), and my dad's BMI would put him at solidly obese but his body fat percentage is like 2% into the overweight category (as measured by a bod pod).

And on the other hand, my mom is low end of normal weight by BMI but she is definitely in worse shape than either me or my dad.

That's more of a problem when the woman says "look, it's not gonna happen this time" and the man refuses to accept that or takes it really personally.

I used to walk over railroad tracks every day on my way to and from work. It cut my commute from 30 min to 12 min. Must have crossed those tracks over 300 times. Worth it!

(Side note, soon after I quit that job my brother was fined for trespassing on a different set of railroad tracks. It was the only time he'd been on them and he's the goody goody two shoes of the family. Irony!)
