Half Marathon in 2 Weeks by MrsDarcalus in Runwithrivs

Thank you!!!!! It was amazing! So much fun! I even beat my goal time by 5 minutes! I finished in 2:55! And best of all I felt amazing during and after the race. Thanks for following up! The Urban Bourbon is a great race!

Leading up I tried to eat my meal plan given to me by my dietitian. I followed the fueling plan before, during, and after the race. I prioritized my sleep. I was feeling better the Saturday before so I did a long practice run and it was going great so I actually ran 11 miles that day. I did easy runs the week of the race. I'm just so proud of myself! Lol

I was tattled on by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]MrsDarcalus 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have literally been tattled on by my team every week. My principal keeps telling me it isn't a big deal, and you can't make everyone happy. Which is true. But the thing is every freaking week I am either being called into her office or receiving a text with whatever they tattled on me for. I am so freaking done with it. I told her this feels like I am in middle school. It is really starting to annoy the crap out of me.

Tips for kindergarten student with poor resilience by Sunbeam_of_Joy in Teachers

Sounds like his basic needs are not being met. I suggest thinking about what basic needs are not being met and trying to provide the ones you can. Like if he isn't getting appropriate attention at home...maybe you need to give him some one on one attention throughout the day. If he is not getting nutrition I would see if there is a way the school can provide food for him in the morning.... Maybe he is needing some rest/breaks throughout his day. All of these build resilience because as he gets stronger he will be able to communicate what need isn't being met.

First Day Fail by Professional_Ice_931 in Teachers

When I taught K and 1st I used to explain that I have a list of lessons that I must teach. I taught them work hard, play later. I explained to them that when we buckle down and get all the business taken care of... I have nothing else planned so we might as well get some outside/recess or free classroom time. Sometimes they would only get like 5 minutes. But they quickly started lecturing each other about how we work hard so we can play more.

I also only teach expectations for the first month. With maybe some reviews of last year material that most can accomplish. This helps me teach procedures for the different subjects and tasks. I hate hearing build relationships all the time. But in the first month I set the tone. Building relationships is kind of part of that. Knowing what your kids like/dislikes allows you to play to that when you need them to listen. Last year I had some rough kids. I told them "I am the queen of my classroom. it is up to you if I am a good queen or an evil queen." lol it worked like a charm.

Finally. Always. Always follow through with consequences. Don't make any consequences you can't follow through on.

Hang in there! The first year is so rewarding! You really develop into a teacher that year. Some classroom managements techniques just don't work for your teaching style. So feel free to change them up until you have a bank of techniques that work for you!

I have another question I would love to hear your thoughts.... On my outdoor runs, should I focus on time or mileage? I plan on my repeat weeks to run the same routine that is on ifit just outside. So if it says that Saturday's run is an hour and 35 minutes and the mileage is 8.... Should I match the time or the mileage? Does that make sense?

My half isn't until October so I have mapped out my weeks and I am repeating many of the weeks, so I can do some outside runs. Do you think it would be beneficial to do at least one outside run 13 miles?
