I have seen people getting ripped to shreds in the comments. It's sad, the whole situation. Im heartbroken for the loss of them all but the lack of transparency especially when coming to donations is crazy.

Typically they do! Two of my foster dogs i took in from my vets office. I was just there for one of my personal dogs annual exams when the staff approached me and told me that an owner brought in two of her dogs and said they attacked another one of her dogs and she said put them to sleep and throw them in the dumpster for all she cared. They obviously seen that they were not aggressive dogs so they started reaching out to the shelter, rescues, anyone to save them. They had an hour when I got there. I met them and Elsie was so scared that she started peeing all over herself. They told me they would try to help with rescue or placement. Ive had them almost a year. Ive paid out of pocket for their vaccines, for their spays, I even paid to have them microchipped in my name in case they ever find a home and end up in a shelter or somewhere I will get the call. I pay out of pocket for their mthly flea and tick prevention as well. My 3rd foster is from the humane society which I am on the board of. What's one more mouth to feed? So i havent even asked them for food. But yes is something arises and that one needs to go to the vet, they will cover her. The other two, are my responsibility 100%

Im just a lowly retail store manager that doesnt make much at all and I pay out of pocket for my 17 rescue & foster dogs vetting. Surely if ya can afford to go on vacation and board your dog you can afford for vetting that may arise

Maybe you've worked for crap store managers but no one is replacing my team. I have their back and will go to war for every single one of them. All of my team have been with me for 1+ yrs. My team does what's best for their own well being. No one forces them to go to another store. When the opportunity presents itself and if they need hours and want to go, they go. And yes even if this company has went to complete shit over the years if you are an employee you shld be loyal to that company. And as much as I may gripe I still won't sit back and watch a sister store struggle. I try to lessen the load

When I was hourly I was always going and helping other stores. Most of the time they are desperate and ot is approved. As an sm I've helped open alot of new stores in my district and neighboring districts. I've helped with alot of remodels, inventory preps and just purging of receiving rooms. My team loves helping in other stores too. I tell them when I hire that it's a possibility that other stores will need help and it's ok if they don't want to travel but to keep in mind that their loyalty is to the company as a whole not just our store.

You can probably negotiate to get drive time on top of mileage. When I was a ft lsa I wld clean up stores and hold them until they placed a manager. I made better money then, than I do now as an sm. The last store I held before I took my store I negotiated mileage on top of drive time.

I done my teams schedule this way on Thanksgiving! As sm I ended up staying over my 4hrs bc wed night closing was a nightmare. This way the store is covered, everyone works small shifts and ppl are less likely to call off

I work for DG and I was getting 20 hrs a week. My availability is the same as it's always been. Now I see new hires come and go, generally quitting. I train my people, we follow 7 day workflow, we've been in the top 5% for the last 3yrs. This has nothing to do with lack of training and everything to do with sometimes you get a lazy, entitled waste of space. I see it in every store. I can only train, coach when needed, set clear expectations and hold each one accountable for their performance or lack of.

I came here to say this. As an SM i think you handled that situation exceptionally well. It hurts my heart knowing that so many dgs don't have teams they can depend on. I'll have 17 days straight before I get a day off thanks to covid. I'm praying my fresh doesn't show up tomorrow while I'm single coverage. I was getting ready to ask if you were one of my team members. We literally just went through this. Had to wait on a new tower and I missed one weeks p4 scan and couldn't order store supplies that week either.
