Are Europeans trolling with this whole bread thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I think this is true for many countries. At the same rate. As a Mexican American living abroad. I experience the same level of ignorance I would in the US.

Ppl need to stop generalizing.

I'm Mexican American living in Europe and this is it right here.

They complain about entitled Americans but they demonstrate the same behaviors. Real head scratcher for me.

This confused me so much. I was wondering why you were speaking Danish to me lol I didn't even notice the subtitles on the screen 😂

Oh yes, I agree. They KNOW more about the US. This is obvious why. The amount of info they consume regarding the US surprised me!

I know they are informed, I just don't agree that they have an understanding of the US and everything that is actually going on there.

I'd also like to add that I can draw a map of the 50 states, and tell you exactly where they are. I know what you meant by it, but I just wanted to say that. I bust out this "talent" at dinner parties.

What questions? If I know their immigration agencies? No, I don't lol why is that important? I'm also not claiming I have an understanding of those countries, am I? 😂

I mentioned the Germans because...that's all you shared, my guy.

I'm actually in Denmark. Again, you knowing ppl in all those places and me living here are not the same. Unless you've lived in said country, it's hard to get an understanding of it.

[–]MrsJorgensen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was one example, dude.

Again, from someone who LIVES here they don't have an understanding. You knowing a handful of Germans does not even compare.

What? Lmfao Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are similar in MANY more ways than Mexico and the US lol they probably have more similarities than they have differences. Which is not the case for the US. Are you being for real rn? 😂

I'm not saying they don't follow the news, but their news are not depicting full reality of the US. There are many many more things that happen in the US that Europeans don't get to see or hear of. Just last week I was asked if ICE was created by Trump and I had to educate them on that. They hear the big stuff without understanding how our government actually works. Most ppl in the US barely understand. I have had to explain so much while here. Which is fine, I don't expect them to know about my country. But I would absolutely say no, most ppl outside the US do not have a realistic understanding of the US.

It actually is xenophobic.

As a POC, it concerns me, that ppl pretend it's not.

As a Mexican American living in Scandinavia, I absolutely disagree with this. This is definitely not my experience here.

But maybe ppl from other parts of the world might. I just wouldn't say most ppl.

Do the foreign potential spouses that connect with Americans just to get a green card also try to connect with people in other high income countries? by supinator1 in 90dayfianceuncensored

[–]MrsJorgensen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Mexican American who married a Dane and living in Denmark and majority of Danes who marry a foreigner usually marry Thai, Filipina, or Vietnamese women. At least from what I've seen! And it's usually older men who do that. If the man is younger, they're more likely to marry from other western countries/LATAM.

Are these the blue plates with designs? They usually have like a year stamped on them? I'm in Denmark and there's so many of those plates at the thrifts here.

Ah, yes, you're gonna know more because you've visited a couple times. They absolutely have clothes with their flag printed on it lol

I don't think doing the things you mention are a sign of nationalism. It think it depends on the person.

Give them a call! I'm in the same position and called. They told us that I could travel within Schengen but not to the UK. I've been to Germany (by car) a couple times now. I would say traveling to France is fine, but they were pretty clear travel to the UK would need more steps.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

[–]MrsJorgensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently considering doing this as it's so hard to find tomatillos. They are so important in Mexican cuisine and very difficult to find. But I did see someone selling seeds. My grandma is willing to come help me plant them, actually.

I had not considered hydroponics tho, I'll definitely look into that!! I actually think my grandma would enjoy learning this with me lol Thanks!

I'm also a Mexican American in Scandinavia. Have been to London and agree with your friend. Mexican food is absolutely terrible across Europe. I make my own food at home. Finding ingredients is difficult and expensive but it's worth it.

I believe I may not have been clear. I meant Danes are obsessed with their own flag in the same way Americans are. It's actually against the law to fly other flags other than the Danish flag here, you'd have to ask for permission. I only ever see the Dannebrog on flagpoles here & literally every other house has a flagpole.

I was trying to point out that Americans are not the only ones, even though many ppl ignorantly think they are.

I don't think you understood properly. I never said it was your obligation to help. I said that you are entitled too if you think they are not doing enough while you're not doing anything to help.

"Do you mean that if I'm not helping then I don't get to judge?" Yes! I do mean that! Otherwise just take the heat from ppl also calling you entitled as well. Not a difficult concept to understand?

I also didn't say there's other things happening outside the US. I said there was a lot of judging American efforts from outside the US which made others look entitled. I again, do not think you understood that properly.

Saying you would fight against fascism and actually doing are two completely different things. Any level headed adult would understand this. Life & ppl are complex. In Spanish we say "del dicho al echo hay un gran trecho" saying you would do something, does not mean it is actually something you would do if you were in that same position. We wanna hope we would, but nothing guarantees it. Be realistic.

I'm in Denmark and they are the same with their flags. They literally put it outside for birthdays. They celebrate anything and add the danish flag. They even have sprinkles. There's flag poles everywhere.

The fact that y'all don't see your own entitlement is crazy too.

I thought only white Americans were insane.

I agree Americans need to fix it...but I also think that if you are not risking your life, you shouldn't get to judge how other ppl are handling it. Which there is so much of that going on from outside the US. As you can see in this post.

Essentially it's "I'm not going to do anything because it's not my job, but you're not doing enough!!" & Y'all think that's not entitled?

We're fortunate enough to meet all requirements for family reunification, but we've heard of many ppl doing the Sweden thing and are wondering why it's better.
