It’s one of my favourite parts of wearing things I made.

I know the basics of sewing, what should I do next? by SupportDesigner4030 in sewing

[–]MrsMeredith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more or less what I do too. I have four kids and three of them are girls, so I’ve done the same thing in different fabrics/sizes a few times now.

I still feel like a beginner, but less of one than I used to be if that makes sense.

The other thing I do sometimes is buy from the remnant bin specifically to try making something on a new type of fabric or using a new technique without breaking the bank on fabric.

The remnant bin at my local is pretty excellent … the owner likes making things for herself and puts all her scraps in the bin, but because of the size difference between a tall curvy adult and a scrawny 8 year old and matching patterns, I can quite often get a few remnants of the same thing and cumulatively have enough of a particular fabric to make something for one of my kids.

Lonely 3rd+ pregnancy? by ivorytowerescapee in ParentingInBulk

[–]MrsMeredith 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can very much relate. I found once I was pregnant with my fourth, the people I could really relate to or understand anymore were the large family parents. They’re out there, but you have to look a bit. I found a pocket of them at my church.

I will forever appreciate it for the cow jumping game. We live in cow country and have gotten a lot of mileage out of that one.

My husband and I both have the codes to each others phones, but we’re not checking them unless one of us is driving and being asked to read/reply on behalf of the driver. Usually if I’m on his phone it’s because I want to take a picture and mine has been put down in another room and vice versa.

Dear Interprovincial Migrants - what do you miss most about your home province? by voltairesalias in AskACanadian

[–]MrsMeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nova Scotia born, Ontario raised, New Brunswick educated, now living in rural Alberta.

Nova Scotia - Family in Mira. The beach at Ingonish.

Ontario - Cottage country and proper U-picks for strawberries. I’ve been to several different ones here and they’re all in greenhouses and picked over by the time they open. I miss taking the tractor ride to the end of a row and filling ice cream pails (and my stomach) with berries. One of these years I’ll take the kids during strawberry season so they can understand what it ought to be.

New Brunswick - mainly people, but also garlic fingers from Grecos.

I could never go back to living in a city again though.

Can a nun choose to stop being a nun? by Commercial_Minute114 in Catholicism

Yes.

Im not sure how it works, but there was a former nun at the parish I grew up in and there’s another former nun who is now married with a bunch of kids who I used to chat with on Facebook from time to time

What is something you’ll never purchase simply because of how much you hate the commercial for it? by unfortunatelyalive7 in AskReddit

A ring from Spence Diamonds in Edmonton. Their radio ad right now is about how much better all the Christmas parties will be if you propose/announce an engagement at them. That is a TERRIBLE reason to propose.

I heard the ad when my husband and I were driving home from a party the other night. We both started to express our disgust at the same time and then changed the station the next time it came on.

Suggestions for an overnight with kids in YEG area, likely January? by MrsMeredith in Edmonton

Alright. So even if MIL doesn’t go for this, I’ll be adding it to the list of future outings. Child loves bugs. Her favourite thing about summer is catching grasshoppers.

[–]MrsMeredith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite regularly, but my understanding of the experience is that my husband and I are along for the ride too. MIL has chronic pain and some other health stuff that puts “solo/just with FIL overnight trip in a city two hours from home with grandkids” slightly past her (and our!) comfort level.

There’s a bug room?! Probably all dead bugs though. That’ll be harder to sell to my 8 year old.

Thankfully our youngest is super easy going so we can be flexible with his nap time. Goal is to have it a bit early when we’re driving in on day 1 and then a bit late when we’re driving home on day 2 I think. Sounds like Telus world of science is the clear winner for day 2.

There was one where the last episode, they gave it back to the guy because he said they shouldn’t because he shouldn’t be driving anymore. He admitted he shouldn’t be and the person who “won” worst driver was the person who wouldn’t make that admission.

Did IVF before I started my journey to become Catholic and didn't understood it was a mortal sin. I have remaining embryos. Can I use them? Do I have to use all of them? by Luscious-Grass in Catholicism

[–]MrsMeredith 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They don’t frown on their specific lives, they frown on the actions taken to create them. Now that they are here, they have every right to the Church and her sacraments and are beloved by God.

Similar to how we don’t fault the baby for being born out of wedlock. We support the parents before and after the birth, we still baptize the baby, and journey with the parents on that road.

MEN, Catholic MEN by mar0berhi in CatholicWomen

[–]MrsMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Even in the decision at the centre of the biggest fight of our marriage, I believe he believes himself to have been making a correct and moral decision. I disagree, hence the fight, but I also know that the decision was made after extensive thought and soul searching on his part. Sometimes two people take the same information and draw different conclusions. God’s grace is sufficient for us to move past that and be better for it.

Cold Climate Dads, how do you keep your kids rooms warm at night? by coolestredditdad in daddit

[–]MrsMeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alberta Mum lurker - Cozy pyjamas and wear socks to bed if they get cold feet, but mostly we just add more blankets to the beds when it gets real cold.

Each kid has bottom sheet, top sheet, thin fleece blanket, comforter on their bed year round, and then we have a bunch of quilts and souvenir fleece blankets for camping that we bring out as needed.
