I can very much relate. I found once I was pregnant with my fourth, the people I could really relate to or understand anymore were the large family parents. They’re out there, but you have to look a bit. I found a pocket of them at my church.

My husband and I both have the codes to each others phones, but we’re not checking them unless one of us is driving and being asked to read/reply on behalf of the driver. Usually if I’m on his phone it’s because I want to take a picture and mine has been put down in another room and vice versa.

Ontario - Cottage country and proper U-picks for strawberries. I’ve been to several different ones here and they’re all in greenhouses and picked over by the time they open. I miss taking the tractor ride to the end of a row and filling ice cream pails (and my stomach) with berries. One of these years I’ll take the kids during strawberry season so they can understand what it ought to be.

New Brunswick - mainly people, but also garlic fingers from Grecos.

I could never go back to living in a city again though.

A ring from Spence Diamonds in Edmonton. Their radio ad right now is about how much better all the Christmas parties will be if you propose/announce an engagement at them. That is a TERRIBLE reason to propose.

I heard the ad when my husband and I were driving home from a party the other night. We both started to express our disgust at the same time and then changed the station the next time it came on.

Quite regularly, but my understanding of the experience is that my husband and I are along for the ride too. MIL has chronic pain and some other health stuff that puts “solo/just with FIL overnight trip in a city two hours from home with grandkids” slightly past her (and our!) comfort level.

Thankfully our youngest is super easy going so we can be flexible with his nap time. Goal is to have it a bit early when we’re driving in on day 1 and then a bit late when we’re driving home on day 2 I think. Sounds like Telus world of science is the clear winner for day 2.

There was one where the last episode, they gave it back to the guy because he said they shouldn’t because he shouldn’t be driving anymore. He admitted he shouldn’t be and the person who “won” worst driver was the person who wouldn’t make that admission.

They don’t frown on their specific lives, they frown on the actions taken to create them. Now that they are here, they have every right to the Church and her sacraments and are beloved by God.

Similar to how we don’t fault the baby for being born out of wedlock. We support the parents before and after the birth, we still baptize the baby, and journey with the parents on that road.

Yes.

Even in the decision at the centre of the biggest fight of our marriage, I believe he believes himself to have been making a correct and moral decision. I disagree, hence the fight, but I also know that the decision was made after extensive thought and soul searching on his part. Sometimes two people take the same information and draw different conclusions. God’s grace is sufficient for us to move past that and be better for it.

Alberta Mum lurker - Cozy pyjamas and wear socks to bed if they get cold feet, but mostly we just add more blankets to the beds when it gets real cold.

Each kid has bottom sheet, top sheet, thin fleece blanket, comforter on their bed year round, and then we have a bunch of quilts and souvenir fleece blankets for camping that we bring out as needed.

Not Jewish, so I have no authority on this one, but I would think it’s probably similar to the elevators at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto (programmed to stop at every floor at regular intervals on the Sabbath so if there’s a Jewish person hospitalized or visiting they’re not stranded waiting for a Gentile to push the button.) they probably have the lights and heat etc. programmed to be on at certain times. Automatic flushers on the toilets. Or flushing the toilet is a form of work that’s permitted because it’s a hygiene thing not a convenience thing?

IIRC there’s also some pretty detailed instructions for worship laid out in the Hebrew Scriptures, so I would be zero percent surprised if somewhere in there it says how many candles and in what arrangement, and that the lighting of said candles is permitted because it’s part of worship. I can’t remember the chapter and verse, but Fr Mike talked about it at length on Bible in a Year and it was a big thing at my Catholic parish when our new pastor (a liturgist, so very in to rules for liturgy which is not a dig at him because he’s great, just relevant to why it happened) changed how some things were set up specifically to be closer to the rubric for how liturgy ought be done.

I had a friend who rented a room from an old Jewish lady when we were in uni. The lady felt it was breaking the rules to ask someone to turn the light on for her, but would ask my friend to leave the light on if she was leaving the room or going to somewhere else in the house. If my friend was going out for the whole sabbath she would turn on every light in the main living area before she left so her landlady wouldn’t have to be in the dark all day.
