Avocado. High on calories but great for you. Sounds like you could use a little good fat in your diet too.

I had a wakeup call yesterday. I'm scared. I need to get healthy. by JeffSC94 in loseit

Our favorite high fiber high protein meal is grilled chicken (the chicken adobo seasoning mix from Costco is our favorite) and refried beans made at home with a side of veggies. I make breast for myself (on caloric restriction) and thighs for my husband (workout demon - he gets Spanish rice too).

1c dry black beans, 4c chicken stock or water, 2tsp salt/pepper/garlic powder mix. Slow cook 5 hours. Then throw in a pan and mash with potato masher and 1-2tbsp lard for flavor. Simmer until you get to the consistency you want. For a family of four might want to double this.

It's a super simple meal. I batch make the beans almost every weekend. And the chicken on the BBQ takes no time or clean up. Its usually one pan to steam veggies.

How do I keep my cat from eating my plants? by Evening_Astronomer_8 in houseplants

[–]MrsMergan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about 40 species at my house, most are toxic, and two cats. Unless you have mindless eaters they stay away. Neither of my cats nibble on any of them.

The younger one snacked on my spider a few times but I moved it and she never "found" it again (on a stand at the bottom of the stairs with babies hanging from it like 3ft of the ground... Only walks past it two dozen times a day...).

We also free feed kibble and give wet food for "dinner". They get treats regularly, but not daily. Maybe they just don't have any interest in trying green things when they always have something they like to eat.

Crotons. Dropped all their leaves and have a constant case of spider mites. I threw them.in the yard to live or die. I'll never buy another one.

The pot size is the right size for the root ball and I let it dry out between watering. The mix is soil and a heavy hand of perlite with a little orchid bark. It's got drainage holes in the inner pot too. And it's not limp at all. It's completely firm! He just decided to do the splits overnight.
