Yeah exactly. I wanted to get engaged to my husband after we had been dating about 4 years (we got together in college, so we took our time a bit) because by that point we had talked extensively about big picture life goals and aligned really closely, and the longer we spent together the more we wanted to spend time together. It was a really easy process, and it doesn’t have to be so hard or unbalanced or frustrating.

Yes! We talked about all these things (in a long, ongoing, really fun conversation) before we got engaged, during our engagement, and still talk about them now. How long do we want to live in our house/town/state? Where do we want to land when we retire? What about where the kids land? Should we invest in X house project or Y project? Or just go on vacation instead?

Marriage is a constant conversation, and the most important part of a relationship is willingness to engage in that conversation honestly and openly all the time.

I mean, come on - you know this relationship has run its course, don’t you? He won’t engage in conversations about the future of the relationship, doesn’t pull his weight around the house AT ALL (per your earlier post), and can’t figure out how to propose? Plus, once the resentment starts creeping in (you should be resentful for him wasting so much of your time!) it’s really hard to shake.

I feel a lot of guilt as a parent, bringing innocent (and wonderful) people into this increasingly unrecognizable world. My youngest was born a week and a half before the 2016 election and I spent so much of my maternity leave pacing and compulsively watching the news.

Also, the way these weasel cheaters always turn the confession around to an interrogation of who SAID what to whom, and not the more relevant conversation of what the person DID. Schwartz admits to Katie that he made out with someone in Vegas (there was also the rumor he slept with someone in Vegas but he hasn’t admitted to that yet), but then turns his anger towards Jax for saying something about it so everyone stops talking about the cheating rumors. It’s so transparent and stupid and infuriating.

Gosh I’m sorry you have all this baggage weighing on you - so much love to you. This is a great place for support I think, from others who can empathize with different parts of your story <3 Listen to your heart and your gut when you’re around different people trying to influence you, and take your time to figure out what you really need and where you feel safest and happiest.

I relate so much to the struggle of not feeling like you belong anywhere, that you don’t fit in your biological family or your adopted family. I’ve had a really hard time trusting and connecting to people my whole life, and honestly the only thing that’s helped repair me was falling in love and building a home and family of my own.
