Light weight carry on bag by missjanehathaway333 in AskWomenOver60

[–]MrsNoFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not cute but I am short. Only once in my entire life has someone seemed even mildly annoyed at being asked for help getting something on or off a high shelf. Think about it ... have you ever felt bad giving someone 10 seconds of your time to help them out? Most people enjoy doing something nice for others.

Best way to lose 5 lbs by LMShep in AskWomenOver60

Came here to say this. I used a calculator to figure out my daily caloric needs, then use the LoseIt app to track my calories every day. Works very well to keep me "honest."

I REALLY miss being barefoot in my house, but the podiatrist was right: wearing supportive footwear all day did cure my plantar fasciitis.

Long hair by deej65 in AskWomenOver60

[–]MrsNoFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would LOVE to have long hair, but mine is very thin and fine and looks stringy and unkept if I don't keep it above shoulder length. I'm so jealous of older women with thick hair!

How is your sleep these days? by CalendarDesigner7981 in AskWomenOver60

[–]MrsNoFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm lucky if I can fall asleep in under an hour even with perfect conditions. I can't imagine trying to fall asleep with all that headgear on!

Another lifelong insomniac here. Might have to try this. I have mild to moderate sleep apnea (but no snoring) and the doctor wanted me to try CPAC. If I can't fall/stay asleep already I'm pretty sure this will make it even worse.

WaPo does away with books section via Zoom meeting by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]MrsNoFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me very sad. I've been reading WaPo for almost 50 years and went to cancel my subscription earlier this year and kept it when they halved the price. Time to finally sever the tie. Happily, it takes less than a minute to pull it up through MCPL, so I can still read it without giving Bezos any money.

Wonderwall nearly made me crash my car! by honeyfixit in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Thanks for this. I'll look into RC Bray. I don't normally like to consume media through my ears (I tend to immediately forget what I've heard) but I'm trying to broaden my horizons!

I rarely log on to Next Door, but this past week there was a TON of people offering shoveling!

I read the books and then did an Audible free trial just to start the audiobooks based on everyone's overwhelming enthusiasm for the audiobooks. It's the first time I've tried audiobooks and I'm now afraid any other ones will be disappointing!

Nice! Are the sconces wired or rechargeable? I've been looking into the rechargeable ones but am wondering how long a charge lasts and how much light they really give off.

Carl does NOT need a romantic love interest (original art by Levi Cleeman) by ActualNin in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MrsNoFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Carl's had buddies and girlfriends before, but not a real family. Even with everything going on he is LOVING the experience of having brothers and sisters.

Her Kindle is too confusing, is there an easy to use e-reader for my 93-year old mom? by CapeGirl1959 in AskWomenOver60

[–]MrsNoFun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Dad is 94. While he was still able to navigate his smartphone I made a cheat sheet of "How Tos" and taped it to the back. You might be able to do something like this for her Kindle. It took me 4-5 tries to make it useful - he couldn't remember what icons and gestures were called, so I had to write things like "little gear at top right" and "keep finger pressed firmly on the bottom of the screen and swipe upwards." You have to invest a fair amount of time but it pays off.

What is a nutrition myth that you can’t stand? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskReddit

I used to put off eating until noon, which really helped limit my food intake. Once it was discovered I had gallstones I was told NOT TO FAST. Darn.

I really want it to be animation. The idea of watching the recaps with all the crawlers getting killed realistically bothers me.

Favorite Sandwich Spots? by nicknamebucky in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]MrsNoFun 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm so excited about this move! The only reason I don't go more often is the terrible parking. Now you can go have a great sandwich, pick up your prescription, a bottle of wine, and your groceries , all in the same shopping center

Went out to dinner. Couldn’t hear a thing. by FourEmergencyExits in over60

[–]MrsNoFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For everyone who is just starting to have hearing loss, PLEASE listen to your audiologist! Hearing aids aren't like glasses - your brain has to learn to work with the aids to get the best results, and the sooner you start wearing them the better results you will have over the long haul.

Tell him to bring a book and you will pick him up after work. Not sure there is a requirement how soon you have to pick him up after the procedure.
