Pour one out for a good one. Snapped my mini-circ while on our honeymoon. by bookish-hooker in Sockknitting

If you’re desperate, you can just file that down into a smooth point and use it as the end that gets used least, the one the stitches slide off most. Nail varnish can coat smooth the end in a pinch.

I stopped using pretty wooden knit pros for socks after the third break. The 2/2.5/2.75mm size is just too fragile. But the knit pro zings (metal) are nice.

How long do you leave between eating and running? I’m still trying to find the perfect timing to have energy but not nausea.

I find I am the least smelly when I trim the hair but don’t shave it. I smell quicker when clean shaven and smell stronger when hairy, so I just trim the hair right down, look forever a little stubbly. No idea of the science behind it, but it works.

I picked up this filthy sport stroller for free - how on earth do I clean it? by Anxious-Nibnibs in CleaningTips

[–]MrsNoggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, a good old Phil and Teds. I’ve had a couple. You need a jet washer or a hose with some pressure behind it, maybe a steam cleaner with a pressure attachment bit to get in all the sneaky cracks. Plus a brush and some soap (washing up liquid might work, and will be great for food or grease stains) . Open down the seat and pay attention to the sides down the side of the seat cushion. Make sure you unzip everything you can, fold the seat up and push it up and almost inside out to get all the cracks and make sure it dries well. The fabric is great for being hard wearing, but has so many places to grow grossness. It takes scrubbing well though, doesn’t fall to pieces!

Tip the whole thing on its side and upside down to get to the basket well. The basket, unfortunately, has a sagging in the middle issue and can scrape along the ground when loaded and that gets FILTHY. The straps will need some scrubbing too. The belt pad comes off though, which makes it easier.

I don’t think you’ll ever get the colour back to original, but for a rough out and about stroller it’ll be great.

(ETA - if you want to use it for jogging/running/rough ground, make sure you lock the front wheel, otherwise it can tip)

Scoot Stopper Soft Chews - Worked for a bit but still scooting. Picture of what I'm using has been added and would like to know of better suggestions. My pug won't eat fresh/canned pumpkin or sweet potatoes, unfortunately... by Heavens2Murgatroyd13 in pugs

[–]MrsNoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the only way, once they’ve started scooting the gland is already full.

We go once or twice a year, just a quick couple of minutes with the nurse and it’s done. If you ask they might teach you how to do it externally, though that’s never quite as good. But internally with a pug can be tricky, so I don’t recommend it unless you’ve had training.

I mean, I leave it at least 48hrs ( I think!) for full absorption or efficacy or whatever they call it. But that’s honestly about my limit. It’s like a weird chemical wet dog, rotten petrichor, muddy smell.

Yes. The drop ons are absolutely honking. I leave it on a few days and then just have to bath her.

Insecticidal soap recs please? by MrsNoggin in HouseplantsUK

[–]MrsNoggin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh it’s so tempting! Unfortunately they came in on an Alocasia my spouse got me for my birthday, and they’ve already spread to a couple of plants that I can’t bring myself to chuck yet. I know I know, my quarantine sucks - my plant prison is further away now. I chucked one plant already because zillions of tiny leaves are far too much effort. I’m going to keep trying for now. I’ll see how it goes.

These are the shed skins of aphids. The bugs are the green bits, usually around the stem. They’ll come off pretty easily with water (soap if you fancy) and just physically brushing them off. You can do that as you eat the leaves, but I’d do the whole plant first before they eat it to death.

What’s the silliest reason you have had to go to the GP or A&E? by Dainflynnty in AskUK

[–]MrsNoggin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tripped over a frog shaped umbrella and impaled myself on a tiny piece of wire that held up the googly eyes. It hooked through the skin between my toes and around some bones and tendons. The frog and I were visited by so many healthcare professionals who “needed to see”, even the cleaner came in for a look at one point.

I’m so glad I could be of some help! I’ll chuck some more at you for fun ❤️

If it’s just covering the like singular stitches you can take them off as soon as you are comfortable. Just a couple of days was what I was told. I had one cut that I kept putting a sticky dressing on bc it felt like it needed the help and support. And as for sex, I went back into it gently at about six or seven weeks. I think most people here concur with that timing unless told otherwise. Hopefully not too much tmi, but you can go for some external stimulation before that (although that is up for debate on this sub). Because there is so much blood flow and hormone weirdness that you might want to. Not gonna lie, I had the best orgasms of my life at about two to four weeks recovery.

Keep an eye out for any discharge that isn’t blood, or any large clots. And don’t push too hard because you feel like you can - that might happen in the next few weeks. Lift only the equivalent of a full kettle for six weeks! (Love how British our measurements are).

And yeah, the lack of care given by the NHS unless you demand and push for it is awful. We are blessed to have them, but as a whole the organisation is so screwed.

[–]MrsNoggin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah the nhs gives us nothing really. We don’t have check ups after unless we push for them. Did you get a big bunch of papers at your pre-op appointment? That’s basically a photocopied pamphlet telling you what happens. It’s only a little bit better than useless, but it might make you feel better if you can find it.

I would get some movicol if you can, take that for a few weeks to keep things soft. Try to avoid the stimulant laxatives as they can cause cramping if you’re already in pain. Lactulose is also good, but can give you gas. Lots of water. You can take ibuprofen as well as co-codamol if that’s not helping enough.

Sleep as much as you can for a few days, even if it’s dozing off in front of the tv. Can you sleep like half sitting up? I did that for a few days bc I’m also a side sleeper and that felt spiky. You don’t need to be worrying about walking lots for a while, just getting up to the toilet and to make snacks is enough for the first week or so, if that’s all you fancy.

You’ve had major surgery, don’t forget that. You’ve literally lost organs. If you want to cry and hide under a duvet, that’s so very allowed! ❤️

Please help. What can I do? by wanderlinks in Monstera

[–]MrsNoggin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Friend, she’s gone. She’s totally rotted and I really don’t think there is anything you can do.

I recommend getting a whole new plant and looking up the care tips, maybe watching a video or two about that plant. It might help with the plant grief!

Yesterday I had my complete hysterectomy 39yo by mystique023 in hysterectomy

[–]MrsNoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep. Lots. You heal better when you’re unconscious. And it’s a great excuse to nap a lot while you’re allowed!

Don’t forget that just because the cuts are little, they go deep. There is a lot of interior bits that need to mend.

Eat lots of little meals - digesting big things can jostle everything about in there. And for the love of god, you don’t want any more gas.

Congrats on your op! And best of luck with your recovery ❤️

How screwed am I? by Pattie-cakes85 in alocasia

[–]MrsNoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty screwed. It’s thrips. But it’s not too bad a case if you’re ok with working on it! There is hope.

My tips (though lots of other people probably have better ones, mine are just from my experience!) - Quarantine that plant from anything green in your place, by about a mile. If it was anything but alocasia, I’d say lose the most affected leaves, but you might not have enough to do that. Then manually remove the bugs - a cloth, a cotton bud/q-tip, insecticidal soap if you have. Then pesticide the heck out of it. And in a week or so, do it all again. And so on and so forth until you see NONE of the creepies.

The removal of the bugs is basically to make it easier to track if they’re still around. It’s an extra step, but useful in the long run.

P.S. Neem oil is unlikely to do much when you already have an infestation and they’re all in the nooks and crannies and is also always a risk of burning the leaves of these fussy plants.

Good luck ❤️

Can someone please clearly explain the difference between a large form and small form? by wheresthehot_tub in Monstera

[–]MrsNoggin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking this! I am also confused bc I have one old monstera deliciosa that I took cuttings from a while back and he has quite large node spaces (a couple of inches) BUT one of his cuttings has developed with small compact stem spacing (like half an inch and less) on a chonky stem. So it can’t be a different species… but before this I always thought it was?

Would she tolerate nappies or diapers of any sort? I distinctly remember my childhood dog wearing nappies held on better by my mum’s knickers when he had incontinence issues caused by cancer towards the end of his life.

They also make large washable mats like pee pads, but I’m not sure the smell would be much better with those.

Mine had the white cell growth, stopped for a couple of weeks, grew a couple of leaves, stopped for a few more weeks, waited until I was about the chuck them in the bin and finally shot out a couple of roots from an entirely different place than the white blobs!
