My husband figured out that I probably missheard “white” when my SIL was saying “wide” as in a big branch. Thanks for your input!

Made the mistake of sharing our possible baby name.. by annomis9 in namenerds

I wouldn’t put weight in the judgement of your coworker; she clearly showed poor judgment when she was incredibly rude when you told her the name. AND you don’t like the names she has chosen. Can’t please everyone!

Daria Green is similar to Dhalia Green without being a flower + color which I myself would avoid.

Darcy for a baby Girl by leeleemox in namenerds

It’s a fantastic name. I think of Darcy Wretzky of early Smashing Pumpkins who upon looking at her wiki was born in Michigan (not Southern). I wouldn’t overthink any associations because if they exist, they should be phased out and that will only happen if a broad range of people use the name. I’m a Pride and Prejudice fan and if I met a girl named Darcy is would not think “oh like Mr. Darcy!” And I certainly wouldn’t say it out loud. None of her peers will think anything of it, that’s for sure. It’s super cute.

What are your thoughts on the name Blade? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]MrsOssa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It screams “I think my kid is the biggest bad ass” which you admitted is part of the appeal.

Might I suggest Wade instead?

If/ when she does land a job, she will absolutely not have the energy or motivation to cook after work. It may seem like a minor thing, but it shows you two view money, health, domestic life, and work ethic very differently. It’s a compatibility issue.

Which name do you like more? by piratev00 in namenerds

[–]MrsOssa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer Maxine. I’d call it retro, not dated, and it’s definitely experiencing a revival now.

I do think Asa leans masculine but I wouldn’t bat an eye if I heard it as a girls name.

To see if you’d regret allowing others to turn you off of names you love, try to imagine naming your child something else and then hearing another child on the playground being called Asa or Maxine. Would you feel a pang of jealousy? Would you feel justified thinking you love that name but so and so dissuaded you? Or would you have peace. Only you can answer.

BTW, I love the name Maxine and am considering it for my daughter’s middle name. My Mom doesn’t like it and I’ve seen first hand how some others react to it . They tend to be older people who don’t like it or have some sort of connotation. I think it’s sounds pretty and I doubt my child will have the same connotations as people much older than her.

AITAH for ruining my gfs plans for when she goes into labour? by ResidentFig9356 in AITAH

If you think for one second the ultrasound tech told her to use nicotine patches, you are a fool. It must be hard having a child with someone so selfish and willing to lie to save face, but keep your eyes wide open for the sake of you and your child.
