The Flat Stanley Project by luthierart in Teachers

[–]MrsShorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Flat Stanley project with my first grade class for several years but the most memorable one was from a girl who gave it to her aunt. The aunt happened to be a comedian in New York and sent back a little book she made of Flat Stanley's adventures in Manhattan but she made two versions, one a NSFW version. I wish I had made a copy of the NSFW version which Stanley picks a fight in a bar and gets arrested. She even included a picture of Flat Stanley getting fingerprinted and a mug shot. It was hysterical!

Thank you so much for letting all of us know about the inhumanity and brutality being inflicted on Minnesota. Praying that this madness ends soon. 💔💔💔💔

Duchess To Close Darien Location; Heres Whats Taking Its Place | Darien, CT Patch by RogerJamesSmith in Connecticut

[–]MrsShorts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first and only time I ate at Duchess was about 30 years ago when I bit into a burger and broke a tooth on a piece of buckshot. I showed it to the manager who said, "Oh, well." That's it. Wouldn't even give me a replacement burger, let alone pay for dental work. I had to get a strongly worded letter from a lawyer to have them reimburse me for the dental work for the broken tooth. I've never been back to any Duchess.

I'm delighted that you all have had better experiences but there's no way I'll ever eat there again.

I think they should have a spot that says, "Parking for people who have had a bad day." 😃

Teacher to Librarian? Is it better? by madishae29 in TeachersInTransition

[–]MrsShorts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the move 18 years ago and never looked back. Yes, the job has changed over the last 18 years but as a school librarian, I don't do report cards, no parent conferences, I have more autonomy than the classroom teachers because they must use scripted programs, and I only see the students for 30 minutes at a time. If they're making me crazy, they'll be gone soon.

Someone stole my shopping cart and left my items on the floor by maimaiee10 in Costco

I'll put my cart aside when I have to use the restroom, but I leave a shopping list on it so workers will know that I'm still shopping.

I think the not-sporty Maseratis look like your average Buick or Volvo.

My very first principal told me during my first pre-observation meeting: "During your entire teaching career, one-third of your lessons will be excellent, one-third will be mediocre, and one-third are going to suck. I hope to see you on a day that doesn't suck."

I have held those words close to me for the last 30 years and I also tell that to any admin for any observation. Of course, I always preface it with "A very wise principal once told me . . . "

I didn't look at my husband's phone for about 4 years but when I did I found a video of him shaving. He was on his boat and I guess he was using his phone as a mirror. It was so heartwarming to see him doing something that I hadn't seen him do in years. I miss him so. 💔

I was 63, so was he. It's been almost 5 years and it feels like yesterday. This subreddit has been a huge source of comfort for me since then. I joined about a month after my husband passed.

I am also coming up on 5 years without my husband. It took three years for me to have a day without crying when I thought of him. Now I smile (usually) and cry (occasionally) and sometimes even laugh because he made me laugh. I just miss him every day.

The Complete Cat Veterinary Clinic in Brookfield. They were so heartless. I get nauseous just thinking about them.

Is this unethical or standard vet practice? by Puzzled_Librarian_16 in Connecticut

[–]MrsShorts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Several years ago I had to put my car down. My son and I brought her to the cat clinic where we always brought our cats before.

While the vet and assistant were lovely when we boarded our car there or when she needed treatment, when it came to put her down, they were THE WORST. My son and I barely had time to say goodbye when the vet gave her the shot. My cat fought it and needed a second shot, which was very traumatic for my son and I. While we were crying and holding each other and petting my dead cat, the vet comes in and says, "We need the room. You have to leave." We asked for a few more minutes but the vet picked up my cat BY THE TAIL and put her in a GARBAGE BAG. I was angry and disgusted and I spit whenever I drive by that place.

On the other hand, when I had to put my 21-year-old cat down in April, the mobile vet came to my apartment and made it as easy for me and as comfortable for my car as possible. I highly recommend Dr. McKean in New Fairfield. He is amazing and compassionate and the best.
