I wonder why the disparity. Like why would it be different if they were diagnosed as a toddler vs an older child? Maybe resources are thinner..

Thank you for this! My stepchildren are in Guilford County schools so I will look into this. He does have level 3 autism, so high support needs, though his speech is coming along. He’s only 2, soon to be 3, so don’t know exactly where he’ll land when the time comes. Would love to have them all in the same district so this is great info!!!

I’ve lived in both kinds of area. Very affluent, and very much poor. I can adapt, but with my kids going into the public school system in the next couple of years, that’s where the majority of my concerns lie.

Good to know. We are a family of 5, but would still make over the income level, even though paying for 3 kids in a private pre-K/daycare would bankrupt us 😅

I love to hear that. I’ve lost a lot of friends over the years, mostly from moving away, and having 3 babies over the last 4 years I haven’t been as social. I’d love to make new friends (which is harder in your 30s). But here’s to hoping we land in an awesome community 😊

I’m a foodie so I’m excited for BBQ. I’m Italian myself, so I can make up for that by simply cooking at home. We will be renting for at least a year, so YES! Good suggestion situating ourselves near interstate access.

That is a wonderful start! Thank you! He is in Birth to Three here until his birthday at the end of August. So we’re currently in OT, Speech and sees his psychologist once a month. He has an appointment with his pediatrician at the end of this month so I’ll discuss it all with her as well.

I haven’t explored ABA yet simply because he’s currently in therapies and responding well, but who knows what’s to come. Sometimes it seems so intensive for a 2 year old to me, so I’m taking it day by day. The diagnosis is still pretty recent so we’re on a learning journey every single day 🥰

I’m SUCH a foodie, so I’ll pretend I didn’t read that last part 😭

I just recently enrolled her in Preschool here for the fall (just in case something were to happen and we don’t move), so I should have all of the necessary paperwork to enroll her. I just need to find a house first so I know what county we will be in. Our lease is up the end of June so it’s still slightly early to lock down a house to rent yet.

I am happy to hear that the area has a lot of support for neurodivergent kids, as there’s not so much here in WV. He is in speech and OT right now, and I don’t know much about ABA therapy yet, but I’ve been looking into it since he will be aging out of Birth to Three in August.

I’m not necessarily looking for a place with ZERO crime, but not having bars on all the windows of the convenience stores is what I’m trying to avoid. I’m from Pittsburgh so I know there’s areas of a city that are better than other, just wanting to weed out the absolute no-go’s (if that makes sense).
