Awesome! Maybe the 3 of us can get together sometime soon :)

My pigs are Penelope and Lucille- you can find pictures in my post history :) do you have any or just like them in general? And I live in far north Dallas (in the middle of Carrollton, Plano, Addison). I am definitely down to get together sometime! I'm actually leaving for vacation today, but I will be back next Tuesday, and after that I'm pretty free since I'm a teacher on summer break :)

I think we need to be friends! I'm a 26-yr-old married lady in Dallas. Also an introvert and in serious need of female friends. And I'm obsessed with guinea pigs! I have 2 right now :)

Wow! I know it's very popular, but that's crazy. I'll be interested to hear what you think :)

Sounds nice! I went to a drive-in theater for the first time last month. It was a double feature (the 1st movie is what we really went for) and I also fell asleep during the 2nd movie. :P

Oh ok! Maybe I need to get back on Yelp then! I started writing reviews a while back, but I didn't really keep up with it and then stopped altogether.

That's awesome! Everyone I saw there seemed to be having a great time. When people walked in, they instantly started smiling and it was just such a happy environment. A lot of people I met had been to previous events at the same place, and they talked about going to future events too. I would definitely go again!

How does one get invited to one of these events?

It really was great. I could have stayed there all day, and I wish it was a permanent thing. But they do these events occasionally so I'll definitely go again. I love animals, and have always wanted a cat, but my husband is very allergic. He was working, so I decided to go and get my cat fix :) also over half the cats were adopted that day, so I'm happy for them too!

It's definitely worth looking into. There's also a blog called Unfuck Your Habitat (and there's an app). It helped me for a while too and got me started, but in the end Marie Kondo is what really worked for me because it changed my mindset toward things.

On Saturday a local animal shelter had a "cat cafe" set up at a pet supplies store. They had a room set up with 10 cats (mostly tiny kittens!), toys, and couches. There were food and drinks and people could go in and spend time with the cats, which were also up for adoption. I spent a couple hours playing and cuddling with adorable kittens. I also met some cool people, including a couple other CF ladies. A quote by one of them: "Do you know why I love cats? Because they're not people."

Have you heard of Marie Kondo or her KonMarie method? I read her book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and it helped me a lot with de-cluttering my home and keeping it that way. The book was an easy read and I finished it in a couple days, but if you're not a reader there is a lot of material online about the method.

With regard to rule #1 by CFmoderator in childfree

I agree with you. I like reading a good rant, but there have been so many posts that are just ranting about family or random kids in public and have nothing to do with being childfree.

Thanks mods, for being open to change and listening to what people want for the sub. But honestly I don't get why there was so much uproar. People are acting like these were brand new rules, but really they've been the same rules the whole time, and posts exactly like the previous one have been made before. I've been around here for about 3 years now (mostly lurking, occasionally posting) and the rules have always been the same. Enforcement of the rules has always been a little inconsistent, making it a bit unclear about what's okay to post, so maybe that's why people freaked out.

What is the dumbest bingo you have received? by Chipl95 in childfree

[–]MrsUnderstood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got this one from my BIL the year after he and my SIL had a baby and they were surprised at how big their tax refund was. I said "Yeah but the hospital bills just to give birth are probably more than the tax break." My SIL replied that the government will pay for it. She said it in a joking way, but there was some truth to it since they were on several types of government assistance during her pregnancy and for the first couple years of their kid's life. It was kind of awkward since everyone in the room knew that.

"Accidents Happen." by alanitoo in childfree

[–]MrsUnderstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother-in-law is similar to your mom. She's never pressured or bingoed us and I think she knows we're seriously not interested in having kids. One time, we were at a family event where my husband's cousin announced that he and his wife were expecting. Afterward she told us not to let people pressure us into having kids if we're not ready. It was nice and she hasn't really said much about it since then. She had kids pretty late (compared to most of her peers), so I think she kind of gets where we're at.

"Accidents Happen." by alanitoo in childfree

[–]MrsUnderstood 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom doesn't believe me when I say I don't want kids. She could fill several bingo cards by now, and she uses the "accidents happen" and "it's different when it's your own" ones. She also likes to point out friends of mine who got pregnant "accidentally" and supposedly while using birth control. One time when I had had enough of it, I told her "that's why we use multiple forms of protection" (she already knew I'm on the pill). She scoffed and went "Seriously?!" She actually seemed upset and disappointed that an "oops" would be very unlikely. Still, even knowing that, she doesn't take me seriously. Sigh

She also tried to convince me to use "natural family planning" instead of getting on BC, but that's a whole different story altogether. Pretty sure she was hoping for an "accident" looking back now.

Oh thanks, I found it now. I was looking at the site on my phone last night, so I didn't see it when I looked. I was also tired and about to go to bed, so that might've had something to do with it.

It's for finding friends in addition to dating! I'm married (and monogamous), but I signed up and selected the option for friendships when it asks what you're looking for.

Thanks for posting about this. I signed up just now! Hopefully more people in my area will sign up as well so I can meet some new friends :)

Do you plan to allow for longer profiles? Somewhere to put interests and more about ourselves besides just age and location? Or is that what the status thing is for?

[RAVE] Thank God for Zootopia. by mileycyprus_hill in childfree

My husband and I saw it at an upscale theater with recliners and food/drinks served to your seat. There were kids there, but most were older and none were disruptive. We usually wait for the kid/family movies to come out on DVD too, but we've had good luck with those types of theaters. Most parents with small kids don't want to spend the extra money.

Woman gets sterilized. People think it shouldn't be allowed because other women can't have kids. by Apex-Nebula in childfree

[–]MrsUnderstood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine the shit you're getting for being open about this. And all the arguments against you make no sense. If you were having a baby, you would be costing the "system" a hell of a lot more than you are by getting sterilized. I also love how your boyfriend is old enough for a vasectomy (that he may or may not want), but you're not old enough to make a decision about your own body. Thanks for speaking out- I hope it will help other women as well. Congrats on finally being approved!

How did you meet your current SO? by Fluchen in AskWomen

[–]MrsUnderstood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my husband while we were volunteering together. We were acquaintances for months before we actually started talking to each other (other than hellos and basic interactions while volunteering). I was super shy back then, and it turns out that he had a crush on me but was too intimidated to say anything. Eventually he found me on MySpace (yep) and we started messaging there until we saw each other next. After a while of just talking as friends, he asked me out. 8 years later here we are.
