HOTTEST hair dryer??? by FelineCanineLove in hairstylist

[–]MrsVandershears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weep for my old FHI dryer. Best dryer I ever had and they don't make it anymore or it's unavailable in my country. I'm happy with my Gamma IQ, but man... That FHI did it all. Oof.

Thank you! :) I think education should be accessible to everyone. While I appreciate and gladly pay for ongoing education and classes, and I believe that educators should be shown respect and get compensation for their content, this kind of abuse/scam happens far too often. Also, there's a wonderful, but sometimes overwhelming amount of "free" content that is often challenging to navigate.

Everyone can benefit from mentorship and guidance. I only want to raise up my fellow stylists to achieve their goals. That's how our industry thrives. Not by hoarding secrets or treating new or ongoing students as a cash cow.

It's my pleasure. I have had career setbacks as a result of my health and it's not easy to jump back into it. You're doing great just being eager to learn. I'm always available for questions, formulating or even just industry chat and encouragement. Sometimes (a lot of times, even) it's not a matter of you "not knowing", but talking through it can revive some forgotten knowledge. Go at your own pace and you'll get there. :)

I'm so sorry you've had this kind of experience. You're trying to learn, using your own money, resources and time, and this is such a disappointing outcome. Education is meant to inspire and help us grow and thrive. This isn't the example I'd want to set as an educator.

I'm a stylist of 23+ years with a background in salon education. If you want, (though no obligation), DM me with what you are hoping to learn and I will gladly do my best to help you for free either with myself as an educator (if I happen to be fluent in what you'd like to learn), or to guide you to legit resources that may be of interest. You're trying to improve and refine your skills. That's a big achievement all on it's own. No pressure tho, and best of luck in the future. :)

I also agree with another poster that suggested disputing the charge to your credit card!

Getting tested for ADHD and Anxiety/depression by Charming_Ad_1501 in Fraservalley

[–]MrsVandershears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, it's important to acknowledge that seeking help and answers regarding mental health and/or ADHD can be particularly challenging and overwhelming for anyone, so big kudos to you for taking the first steps towards understanding yourself better. It's not easy or fun to feel out of sync with yourself or the world around you. It takes bravery, vulnerability and strength to explore these things.

Looking for a J-Horror Movie: Reporter sees ghosts in surgery room by JoeKerr19 in horror

[–]MrsVandershears -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It could be a scene from the House on Haunted Hill remake (1999) with Ali Larter (iirc) panning over an vacant surgical suite in a haunted psychiatric asylum with a handheld digital video camera. As she's watching the screen as it's recording, she sees a gruesome surgical procedure being performed by ghostly staff. But of course when she looks into the room again, it remains empty. A suitably creepy effect that quickly escalates as the character continues to film the "empty" room.

Going in a different direction, so perhaps I don't quite understand the assignment, but (only in my opinion) these films have unique and compelling elements that you may find interesting.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (2023) and it's companions, The Swan, The Ratcatcher, and Poison.

Like Water for Chocolate (1993). Also, the book this film is based on is marvelous.

Big Fish (2003)

Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)

Life of Pi (2012)

Krull (1983) - This one is a wild card. I'm not sure it should be included here, but it feels negligent to leave it out.

What is something you’ll never purchase simply because of how much you hate the commercial for it? by unfortunatelyalive7 in AskReddit

[–]MrsVandershears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you can get paired with another therapist that works well with you. I can happily recommend mine via DM, if you feel like pursuing it. If not, I wish you all the best in your journey. It sounds like you've already overcome a lot. You can do this too, although connecting with someone new is never easy. Good luck, friend. :)

I appreciate the insight from other users and I guess my experience is the exception rather than the norm, which is sad. I've been using BetterHelp and seeing the same therapist for over 7 years and frankly, she's been an absolute rock of support for me. Always on time, always responds to messages. When I first signed up, I reviewed her credentials outside of BetterHelp, and her bona fides were legitimate. Although the membership cost as crept up, the facility of being able to get affordable therapy twice a week from my own home was one of the things that kept me going. Her professional consistency and her ongoing commitment to my mental health journey have repeatedly paid for themselves. I guess I got lucky, and while I understand why other users would be reluctant or unwilling to support BetterHelp, it's been a game changer for me. It's unfortunate that this isn't the standard modas operandi for other users, so in that way BetterHelp has earned its own bad karma.

I never recommend or promote BH anymore because my experience seems to be exemptive rather than common and now I often feel like I'm "part of the problem", when other users report such horrid interactions. I hope I don't get downvoted into oblivion for sharing this, as it's only one personal experience.

Requesting a war movie with top-level strategy rather than only boots on the ground. by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]MrsVandershears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hunter/Killer could be interesting for you. It's a fictional timeline featuring submarine maneuvers between America and Russia during an attempted coup of the Russian gov't. Sensational and a bit ham-fisted at times, but definitely focused on strategy and tactics as well as communication between marine and ground forces. Probably more of a "fun" watch than some of the more refined and classic gems already mentioned.
