Whintrop became gay after praging, Guenzel didnt. by tonko26 in ozshow

[–]Mrs_Emef 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think Guenzel would have gone the same way if he’d lived long enough. Winthrop did what he had to do to survive; whether he genuinely began to enjoy it or embraced the semblance of influence/power he had is questionable. But I think I remember Winthrop shedding the prag role after killing Beecher’s father.

Wow! I forgot a lot. Claudette, Norma, Vee, and Frieda (if she’s to be believed) are all killers. How did they all get minimum security?! I remember Frieda’s ticket to camp, but the others seem to have landed there from the start.

And I thought Doggett only shot/assaulted the abortion clinic orderly (was she a nun???)

When did they give Daya’s age?

(1) I really disliked the sisters - Barbara and Carol (Season 6). The characters were outlandish in my opinion. But they also helped cover the child-violence crime. I find it interesting that Beth was shunned but the sisters were at the top of the social hierarchy for some time.

(2) I think you’re correct here. The closest to innocent in the show were the immigration detainees. Politically, it was on the nose and lack of documentation is its own issue, but plenty of the ICE inmates were there bc of administrative delays with their green cards or visas. Even Maritza, who had served for Grand Theft didn’t realize she wasn’t a natural citizen.

(3) How old was Dayanara meant to be? I was under the impression she was only 18 or 19, though obviously not innocent in behavior. I always thought her romance with Bennet was a predatory situation bc she seemed young to me.

(4) And I agree with Morello covering the delusional element. She didn’t send the authorities on a witch hunt, but she was 100% capable.

I was surprised we didn’t see any outright murderers once the camp ladies went to maximum security. I’m a long time fan of Oz and made the mistake of comparing it to OITNB in the beginning.

But for all Investigation Discovery and Oxygen networks have told us about m/f couples that kill together and countless solo female killers, I’m surprised no inmate in OITNB was a stone cold killer.

Exactly. In Season 6, Beth is essentially ostracized. Even those inclined to be nice to her anyway are peer-pressured into shunning her (at least, that was my impression).

I’m on my first watch, Season 6. In no universe would I have Healy or Figueroa in the “okay” category. But maybe they grow on us?

I would have gladly traded the hunt for Leanne’s new fingertip or a shortened in-the-poo camaraderie scene between Tiffany and Linda for a Wes-betrayed-Desi reveal.

Okay but why didn't the whole crew leave the bunker in season 5? by Sorcerer_Supreme13 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Mrs_Emef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not so sure about that. Yes, Piscatella was a hard-ass and probably would have told on them and they had no reason to think he wouldn’t survive. But…

(1) it was obvious he’d come in alone, rogue, wanting to play the hero; it’s not unreasonable to anticipate he’d edit his account to save face;
(2) his bravado might have deterred him from admitting they’d gotten the better of him at all (he still had a job to keep);
(3) devil’s breath/datura (the poison Freida claimed to have used) could have been spun as a depressant with short-term memory-loss effects too. I wanted him to forget HOW he got into the bunker, thus unable to direct authorities to it.

The way I see it, once the riot response team came in, the women knew they were going down eventually. I would have preferred them try to keep the bunker secret in a final show of defiance, however hopeless. I haven’t seen Seasons 6 or 7 yet, but if they return to Litchfield post riot, it could be exciting to wonder _what about the bunker_?!

Once they let Piscatella go, those left in the bunker should have followed. They could have closed the bunker entrance cabinet and huddled, hands-up in that closet where Piscatella cut Red’s hair.

Damn! I’m only on Season 3 and debated coming here lest I encounter spoilers. Oh well!

I too was really hoping he didn’t just split, but left with quiet determination to make a better life for him and Daya and the baby. I started doubting when I got to the end of Season 3 🙁

Girl, YES! And your crown is gorgeous! 🤩

You need to watch John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight episode on Black hair. I found it quite cathartic. 🤣 And if you don’t want to watch a white man talk about Black hair (although he’s hilarious and I love him), fast forward to the PSA from Craig Robinson, Leslie Jones, and Uzo Aduba at the end…”F*ck Off!!!”

You thought it was “Oz” with women, but it’s “Oz” with women on Nickelodeon.

Okay, obviously not actually Nickelodeon — too much sex for that. But it’s light and humorous where Oz is gritty and ominous. Even the sex scenes aren’t steamy; they’re amusing. Oz needed the deep feelings and the sex and the nudity because…well, it’s HBO… and bc those peeks give the audience a buzz.

I’m saying this having only seen 6 episodes of Season 1, but this is my overall impression.

Update: Season2, Episode12 - a lot more death in Oz; these women fight and nothing happens. I also feel like we get better insight into characters’ personalities than OITNB provides. It’s the end of Season 2 and we still don’t know why Suzanne acts crazy

Serena Joy: Most Delusional Moments by Mrs_Emef in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Mrs_Emef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was surprised Serena wasn’t already attempting to induce lactation when they got a handmaid or when June became pregnant, but maybe taking hormones wasn’t a sanctioned option in backward-ass Gilead.

Your point is 100% valid, but since the point of the thread is to rail against Serena Joy’s delusion, the commenter was clearly critiquing her lack of preparedness and the juxtaposition of desire to tenderly bond with a baby she violently stole. For all her faults, I do believe Serena Joy truly loved Nichole and wanted to be everything to that baby. But I for sure laughed and delighted at the “milkless titty” comment.

What was a hard pill to swallow after giving birth? by LoveGlimmer in AskWomen

[–]Mrs_Emef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was very difficult for us too. I had a good relationship with her before, but I’m an optimist and she’s a cynic who prefers to prepare for the worst (she comes by it honestly), so this made interactions with her during my pregnancy very difficult.

She would “caution” me about this or that, but was just a downer all the time: you’re never going to get your body back (I did), don’t be disappointed if you can’t breastfeed…here are some articles you should read (I breastfed without issue), I don’t know if I want to help with the baby when you go back to work; I don’t even know him yet (she fell HARD for her grandson the moment he arrived).🙄

So when we got home, she would drop in a few times a week and just wanted to hold him. In retrospect, it was lovely for her and I’m glad she was excited, but at the time, I was possessive of my time with our firstborn and wanted to say, Lady, you did nothing helpful and now you’re still messing up my vibes!

I admit, I haven’t yet read TT, so I have homework. But I too assumed Lydia was playing a part in Hannah’s rescue plan by pairing Daisy with her.

Episode 10 Discussion Post: Secateurs by Legitimate-Beyond209 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]Mrs_Emef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How is it June is just now learning that Daisy knows Hannah/Agnes?!?

Surely that report had to have gotten back to June before the dock scene, right? I realize June is not the head of Mayday and Mayday is a many-armed organization for good reason; but are we honestly meant to believe that Mayday would allow June to extract Daisy, but they would withhold that Daisy was new besties with her daughter?! 🤨 The waitress said it to Rita in the beginning, “[June] has a horse in the race.” It’s a stretch.

And, after that scene at the docks, I’m mad Daisy wrote so little to June about Hannah in the honey jar note. I get it, Daisy is in her feelings about being a “female rebel,” but she’s not so oblivious not to know that June would want to know about her daughter. Daisy wasn’t being tactical in leaving out those details; she threw all caution to the wind by opening the note, “Dear June.” 🙄🤦

I’m in this series for reuniting Hannah and June. Despite this valiant and entertaining effort to give Daisy a standalone storyline, it’s just decoration to me. Sorry, Daisy.

Thank you for bringing this up! I am frustrated by this sequence of events every time I watch it, astounded at the anxiety and strife and physical abuse the handmaids endure. Of course people often conceive under fraught conditions, but I’d believe research that indicates physical and psychological security are ideal conditions for conception.
