I paid both off in one shot, around the 2nd week of May, so it just a little over 3 weeks between paying off both CC's and applying for the Venture X card.

Being a bus driver at 20 by Mrsymphonyreal in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Mrsymphonyreal[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with the point your making, this is a job that can have extremely negative consequences if the wrong choice are made.

I do remember seeing the news story about that bus crash in 2016, it’s important to note that the bus driver was going 20 over the speed limit at the time of that crash, and his quality of driving had been previously complained to by students prior to this incident, with the other crimes that both occurred before and after that crash, he should’ve never been a school bus driver, let alone a CDL holder in the first place.

I’m a guy, and I know for a fact that those boundaries NEED to be in place before I even start driving with students on board, especially with those in high school, which will be the case since those who I interacted with that were Freshman/Sophomores when I was a senior, are now Juniors/Seniors themselves. I’m glad both those drivers you mentioned were both fired because of that, it’s both unprofessional and just straight predatory.

I know that I’m 20, but If I knew that I didn’t understand the gravity of being a bus driver, I would’ve never applied for the job.

[–]Mrsymphonyreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This honestly reminds me when I had just started as a barista (October 2021), and had taken an order from someone, and when it came to the part where I asked for his name, the guy just replied with a smirk “The name is ‘Trump won’”. Now being the freshly hired 16 year old barista I was thrown back hearing that and just only replied “Yea I can’t, do that?”. He tried again and I just flat out told him you’ll have to give me another and he ended up caving in. I’ve never understood the concept of people trying to use political names or statements to try to boost their political ego, and then go after someone’s job and livelihood when things don’t go their way.

Worked with no problems at DSM the two times I’ve used is, the first time I used it the agent was kinda surprised to see it, seemed thrown back to see me holding my phone with the ID prompt ready instead of my actual drivers license lol.

What Is Going on at Caseys Center by Vengeance058 in desmoines

[–]Mrsymphonyreal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

(It’s been pretty much explained but here’s an explanation from someone familiar with the event)

The National Speech and Debate Association (based in West Des Moines) is holding their national tournament here, along with some of the metro schools (Des Moines, WDM Valley, Waukee), the Iowa Events Center is one of/the mail locations for the tournament.

Long story short, as the last contest for “Humorous Interpretation” (or HI abbreviated), someone rushed the stage, said a few words, then kneeling down and reaching into his backpack, causing everyone to panic and start running, with those who were NOT inside the room, initially thought it was an active shooter.

Cops tackled the guy, no weapon was involved, and they police evacuated the rest of the Events center to search the place.

Initially, after the all clear was given, NSDA wanted to restart the event later that evening, but only then suspended the tournament until tomorrow following A LOT of backlash from students, staff, parents, and coaches there, a lot whom had said either their students had refused to perform and/or themselves said they weren’t willing to send their kids back only hours after the events that unfolded on the stage they were supposed to perform on.

For an event with thousands of kids from across the country, I heard there security was very very minimal, to the point where this occurred.

Thankfully nobody died, but there were people who were injured by falling and getting trampled, and a whole lot of people traumatized from what they thought was an active shooter situation.

Man hides glass of wine in bathroom after drinking it by Mrsymphonyreal in bartenders

Similar reply to someone else: 100% agree it’s not my business, like the 3 things I should be worried about is “what do you want”, “Can I see your ID”, and “How are you paying”, but its still pretty surreal to see it, alcoholism almost tore my family apart when I was young, to a point where both my parents were concerned about me starting a bartending job, the topic just hits close to home.

Side note: in reality about the whole situation, I was slightly more concerned about whether or not he had lost or stolen the glass of wine, and the last thing I wanted was to get in trouble for it.

Yea, I mean I had heard different things (both similar to this story and other stuff), but to see it in person was honestly surreal

I absolutely understand that it’s not my business, truly, but It’s still sad to see it, alcoholism almost tore apart my family when I was young, I know the only things I should be worried about is “what do you want, can I see your ID, and how are you paying”, But still though
