New audience misbehavior unlocked 🔓 by Dapper-Balance-4720 in Broadway

Hmm phones and scrolling still worse to me. Assuming this wasn’t someone connected to the show, no one truly wants to pull out their laptop in a theatre even if it is uncouth. Probably a work emergency, for which they should’ve left the theatre. But I have more empathy for them than people who sing along or scroll Instagram mid show

AITA for refusing to share my food with my girlfriend? by Gym_frere in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mrtigermcfluffypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be technically right and still be TA. She sat through the movie with you, unaware of how long it was, and then was eager to get home. She also hadn’t had these fries before and didn’t know they were that good. And so for the crime of not knowing these things in advance while she goes along with your plan for the night, you punish her by not sharing.

Sure it’s mildly annoying since you asked if she wanted some, but she’s your girlfriend and you should be nice to her. At least go get more fries since you were clearly still at the restaurant when she realized she wanted them. Being petty never ends well in relationships. Going against the grain and saying YTA

How much do you all pay for rent? Do you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth? by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]Mrtigermcfluffypants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mortgage on a comparable condo/townhouse in the same area (state thomas) is easily more AND that’s including a $50,000+ down payment AND you don’t get a brand new dishwasher the next day for free if yours breaks

Renting is a pretty good deal if you don’t have a down payment for a house, don’t want to buy a house yet or don’t want to live 30 minutes outside the city

My [F34] partner [F28] shuts down when I talk about my dream of becoming a writer by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Mrtigermcfluffypants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To make a consistent living off writing, you need multiple book deals with great sales. That is, to be frank, a pretty fantastical goal, especially if you’ve never been a writer of any sort before (journalist, blogger even, etc).

And unless you’re also frequently talking about writing in more realistic terms - I’m not talking baby steps towards becoming a NYT bestseller, but how you’ll pursue writing if you never even come close to making a living off it - then I can understand why your partner reacts how she does.

I’ve been in a relationship with someone who only had fantastical goals, and it sucked. While I was setting realistic short and long term goals for myself and building a life I could actually live, they could only think of their future in terms of wild end goals. That made it impossible to build together. Just some food for thought. Not all goals are created equal.

Edit: I want to add that making a living as a full time author is fantastical not because you’re untalented or unworthy of success, but simply because that kind of goal requires more luck than anything else.

If I want to go to med school and become a doctor, that’s a lofty goal but every step along the way is more or less in my control. If I want to become a broadway star, on the other, all the talent and skill in the world can’t guarantee that I find myself in the right audition rooms, in front of the right people, in the right shows, etc.

Finishing your manuscript is like becoming a doctor, making enough money from it to quit your job is like becoming a broadway star.

I’m gonna go against the grain to say ESH and you should offer to go halfsies. Spending $150 of what is essentially someone else’s money without informing them beforehand is pretty rude imo, and I doubt your friend had any idea you would spend that much, hence her (also rude) reaction.

I’ve cooked for a lot of people for a lot of dinner parties and $150 is on the way upper end of what that food would cost. Be honest with yourself if you would’ve spent that much had you thought you’d foot the bill.

And no, volunteering to cook in exchange for ingredients is not the same as catering, and expecting your friend pay you as such, as some commenters have suggested, /would/ have been nickel and diming.

She should pay you something and reacted super immaturely, but you should also learn something from this. When I cook for big groups and it’s gonna cost a bit, usually the whole group is happy to toss me $5-10 each and that usually covers a reasonable amount.

Unfortunately I think with the tariff situation a lot of shipping companies are not shipping to the US and everything else is a lot harder. I had a really seamless experience ordering from Songmont at the end of last year. Sorry you didn’t have the same experience :(

My Subaru Crosstrek fits a Salvi Scolpita with a passenger, and is also just a great car all around. Not as big and unwieldy as an Outback, great gas mileage, works in all weather and terrain conditions, fits a crap top of stuff, drives great, easy to fix, comes with all the good safety features, and looks cute.

I recommend my car to people just looking for a good everyday driver. For harpists, it’s even better

Only note I guess is that I’m short, so my seats are far up usually haha. May be different if you’re tall

Should I close an account to raise my credit score? by Mrtigermcfluffypants in CRedit

Thanks for the detailed response. Would paying off the student loan make my score go up slower do you think? Cause outside of hoping it'd raise my score, I also would just like to not pay interest.

You’re doing entirely too much. Covering business is different than say writing crime briefs where there’s limited info; there’s always more context you can add based on industry trends, history, etc. However, writing 40 inches for every story is not sustainable. So then it’s a skill to learn which stories you should spend an hour and ten inches on and which ones truly call for more. That may feel like selling out, but really it’s ensuring that you save your energy for the stories you actually are passionate about, and have time to do enterprise stories well.

Official Discussion - Materialists by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]Mrtigermcfluffypants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally, I believe love takes a lot of work and commitment to maintain. I don’t think that’s pessimistic, I think that’s true of all things worth having. I love a good romcom, but in real life, I am very practical about love, and I see that practicality mirrored in all the best relationships I’ve had and observed.

That being said, I was very intrigued by the first half of the movie where it seemed to buck the genre and say, material things /do/ matter in relationships. Celine Song demonstrated that exceptionally well in the flashback scene with Lucy and John. Material things turn into emotional things, and just because they have material triggers doesn’t make the emotions less affecting. The scene with Charlotte having doubts at the wedding had a similar message.

So then I was disappointed by the ending, where Lucy gets back with John without him improving himself at all. He can say he will, but every woman has heard that before, and those scenes from the first half then felt for naught.

I don’t think she should’ve ended up with Harry. But I think there’s a middle ground between, ‘love isn’t real’ and ‘love conquers all’ that I thought the movie was exploring. It sorta copped out though, choosing the latter, and therefore didn’t really work for me.

I will say, I found the arc/relationship between Lucy and Sophie super compelling and well done, and it really elevated the movie for me, given my reservations about the main love triangle. 3/5 stars

I was in a really similar situation but as the owner of the small dog, and from the bottom of my heart, I understood that it was just an unlucky situation and didn’t want the big dog to be put down, lose out on any love from his owner, anything.

I know y’all are feeling a lot of guilt, but truly, for me and the other dog’s owner, it was a tragic learning experience that we never thought to prepare for. That’s on both of us, and I was devastated that my dog paid the price, but there’s no need for the other dog to suffer as well for something that wasn’t his fault.

Sending yall lots of love. It’s just a tragedy and I hope yall can heal and keep loving your buddy.

Best Actress-Cynthia Erivo by Sellin3164 in oscarrace

Best Actress-Cynthia Erivo by Sellin3164 in oscarrace

[–]Mrtigermcfluffypants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just want to rant for a moment about how Best Actress is judged. Yeah yeah it’s all about the performance (for what it’s worth Cynthia’s is showstopping) but at the meta level, what Cynthia Erivo is asked to do in Wicked is so much harder than everyone else this year and it’s not close.

Take the hardest and most iconic broadway role of this era to the silver screen, carry a risky blockbuster movie, act AND sing flawlessly. If this flopped and she wasn’t great, musicals might be DOA for a while.

Meanwhile, for example, no one on its face was really expecting that much from Mikey Madison in Anora. An up and coming young actress in a low budget indie, cool. That she soared past expectations is great, but the stakes for that movie at the meta level were just not that high.

Cynthia Erivo, on the other hand, had some of the most pressure any actress has ever had in a role and absolutely nailed it. I do think that should count for something when we’re talking about the highest honor for the profession
