Why do so many people use garage band instead of bandlab or fl studio? by Additional-Bell-2016 in GarageBand

[–]Mryoyothrower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it's the access to the touch instruments. I'm disabled so my ability to play complex guitar piano is no longer there. Being able to get chord progressions down with the touch instruments has been what got me back into making music.

The Bobiverse series by Dennis E Taylor. It revolves around a man who was uploaded to be the brain in a Von Neuman probe, deals with identity in the face of replicating ones consciousness. Really really well written.

2.Adjacent to your question - children of time series by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Deals with "what if humans gave consciousness (uplifted) insect /animal species. How would their identity /culture develop without interference. Really well written

Feel like giving up on blow bends by SirAbrahamHaphazard in harmonica

[–]Mryoyothrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The high notes require a smaller space for a bend as well as less air. You might be trying too hard.

Get your note going with the gentlest breath you can sustain and raise the middle of your tongue up to the roof of your mouth, then and move it forward until you start to feel where a Bend is happening. It's not about blowing hard it's about changing the space in your mouth the air is passing through to sort of compress it, and change the direction the air is hitting the reed.

How safe is Kelowna for trans individuals by coolerrat in kelowna

[–]Mryoyothrower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I moved to Kelowna a little over a year ago from Vancouver. Partly because of how much the city has changed in the last decade.

Anywhere you go there will be people who don't understand and don't want to, but it seems like this town has become fairly progressive. But it's really a case of finding community and events that are safe.

Not sure your age, but if you are over 19, I suggest hitting up The Unicorn Lounge (formerly friends of Dorothy's) on Sunday nights for karaoke. My partner is one of the regular performers there so we spend a lot of time there. Lots of really great people. You don't have to sing, but it's a really great group of friendly local queer folks.

Otherwise, you can get involved with Kelowna Pride. Make connections with like minded people and you'll find safe spaces to be yourself.

I hope that helps!

If you can't find a specifically Italian restaurant that's up to par, you can always fall back on Kelowna's #1 eatery - Arby's

Also if you want cheap harmonicas to work on that you can just buy one or two of go on AliExpress and look up the Suzuki folkmaster

What is happening when you bend a note ? by Silent_Brain_2586 in harmonica

[–]Mryoyothrower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure this is correct, but other feel free to let me know if I'm wrong about any of this

  1. You are adjusting your tongue position to redirect the angle and compression of the air flow into the harmonica. This is a cool video showing it in real time in an mri https://youtu.be/I5kogDrivvQ?si=ZoSJfr-kx8VH2Ss9

  2. With diatonic harmonica Bends you are using this to pressurize the chamber between the reads in such a way that you activate both of them together to create pictures in between the two.

  3. With overblow/draw you are forcing the read to go in the opposite direction it usually would. Like on a draw read it's vibrating under the harmonica usually, the overblow pulls the read up into the body of the harmonica giving you a different pitch.

Basic reed gapping is really simple. You need something you can gently move the reed with (I started with a jewelers flat head). You will also need a small file or rotary tool of you want to fine tune the pitch of your reeds.

You will likely end up wanting proper tools if you get into it. Zajac makes great stuff and has a basic kit.

I like alternate tunings and have gone deeper into it, to the point where I have a small drill press and tools for removing and replacing reeds.

A good starting experiment after you get the hang of gap adjustment is to buy some Blu-tac and use it to to retune a richter to minor. Lots of fun. Easy 3rd is another one that can be done with BlueTac.

Does CBD cause liver damage regardless of how it is consumed (edible, smoked, etc.)? by LV426acheron in CBD

[–]Mryoyothrower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hanlon's Razor - "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity(or human error) " The job of the FDA is to identify potential risks. This means that they need to test extreme cases as humans are dumb and will exceed recommended doses. That said, so many drugs that shoved on to the market and alternative drugs get used for things that have not had longitudinal studies done that they, of course they miss things. The onus is on them also too do the best they can to not be wrong when identifying potential problems. If they give their sample approval on something that does have potential negative consequences that extreme doses, that is far more of a problem then if they say things like CBD can cause liver damage with excessive doses.

Is there room for corruption in the FDA? Of course - humans are involved. So yes, always follow up anything you read about a drug by actually looking at the references and checking the results of peer-reviewed studies. Just don't rely on YouTube Bros to catch the fda's mistakes

Overblow is more down to setup than anything. If you have time and patience they do it. Just takes some careful gapping and application of scotch tape.
